Their resources are limited so each month we are asking Christ the King parishioners to donate a specific item that is needed. This month, we are collecting laundry detergent. So be sure to stop by the vestibule with your donation. Please consider making a monthly donation to St. Vincent DePaul so that more folks in need can be helped. From the Pastor’s Desk
This weekend is the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. The Church asks us to renew our devotion to the Eucharist and consider anew the love of Christ poured out to us in the gift of his Body and Blood. Unfortunately, we can become spiritually bling to the miracle of Mass or grow indifferent to this great mystery. Let us open our hearts once again to the real presence of Jesus whom we receive in Holy Communion. I have yet to mention anything in the bulletin about our beloved graduates. Several of our young people recently graduated from eighth grade and high school. I say to them: Christ is with you – think of him often. Transitions in life can be challenging, but our faith gives us the courage and strength we need. Blessings on our parishioners who are beginning a new chapter in their lives. Lastly, please pray for me this weekend. I am in Detroit with several other members of our community as we participate in the V Encuentro, a nation-wide program designed to strengthen Hispanic ministry in the United States. One of the main goals of the Encuentro is to help Catholics become more mission oriented, no matter what language they speak. In that same vein, I want to encourage all the parishioners of Christ the King to be missionaries. Let us not hesitate to share the gift of faith that we have received. May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

Este fin de semana es la solemnidad de Corpus Christi. La Iglesia nos pide renovar nuestra devoción a la Eucaristía y considerar de nuevo el amor de Cristo derramado en el don de su Cuerpo y su Sangre. for “Gran Torino,” a powerful movie from Clint Eastwood about an elderly man’s reluctant care for his immigrant neighbors. At the end of the movie we will have a short discussion about the Christian themes found in the plot. Snacks will be provided by parish council for your enjoyment. G.K. Chesterton. This novel is about Mr. Innocent Smith, a puzzling and charismatic character, and his impact in London. The June meeting will be on Sunday, June 24. (This event is in English.) Registration for 2018-2019 PSR (Parish School of Religion) and RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) has begun. We ask
that all First through Eighth graders of the parish who do not attend Catholic school participate in PSR. Adults who would like to receive Baptism, First Communion, and/or Confirmation in the Church are strongly encouraged to join the RCIA. Information on PSR and RCIA will be available in the parish office.
All Saints Academy Catholic School
School has ended and we had a great year! There were times for celebration and some times of sorrow. Thank you to all our dedicated teachers and staff who worked very hard for the students throughout the year. A special thank you to the office staff: Barb Branfield, Beatriz Jenkins, Dorothy Aeling, Alicia Mercado, and Dora Medrano. We had big shoes to fill with Mrs. Tilley retiring, and these ladies worked very hard. Jeff Osborne and Bob Aeling also worked hard with maintaining the building. This summer we will be working on some much needed cleaning and maintenance projects for our building. Please continue to pray for our school, the students, the staff, and families. Our first day of school for 2018-2019 is Wednesday, August 22, 2018. We continue to look for secretarial and custodian help for the coming school year. ¡La escuela ha terminado y tuvimos un gran año! Hubo momentos de celebración y algunas veces de tristeza. Gracias a todos nuestros profesores y personal dedicado que trabajaron muy duro para los estudiantes durante todo el año. Why do Catholic Bibles have more books than Protestant Bibles?

When Martin Luther translated the Bible into German, he chose to leave out the Old Testament books that weren’t originally written in Hebrew: Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, 1 and 2 Maccabees, and parts of Esther and Daniel.
However, the Catholic Church, under the Holy Spirit’s guidance, con�rmed that the books Luther removed are divinely inspired and chose to keep them (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #120). The Council
of Trent (1545-1563) af�rmed the current composition of the Bible.
When a home is closed up during a long, stuffy winter, Spring is a time to open it up, air it out, and give it a brisk, thorough cleaning. The last few weeks of Spring offer us the opportunity for a brisk, thorough cleansing of our souls, too. Let in the sunlight. Raise the shades and illuminate the dark and dusty places of your life to reveal whatever is keeping you from a close relationship with God. Is accumulating money or possessions your top priority? Are you trying harder to impress others than working to please God? Do bad habits (excessive food, alcohol, drugs) dominate your
life? Make an honest spiritual assessment and get busy cleaning. Clear out cluttered closets. Is there
something stuck in the corners of your
conscience that needs to be cleaned out and
thrown away so you can put God �rst in your life?
Do you harbor unconfessed sin or an old grudge or unresolved disagreement? Seek forgiveness in the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation (Confession), perform your penance, make amends, and let it go. Freshen up. What spiritual change have you been meaning to make? Do you
need to make weekly Mass more of a priority? Does your prayer life need refreshing? Have you wanted to learn more about your faith? Now is the time.
St. Germaine Cousin Born to poor parents near Pibrac, France,
St. Germaine had a deformed right hand, suffered from sores on her neck and was sickly from neglect and abuse. Despite her sufferings, she found comfort in God’s presence, and prayed the Rosary while she tended the family sheep. She was generous with the poor, despite her own poverty. She even forgave her stepmother, who badly mistreated her. She is the patroness of abuse victims, people with disabilities, and shepherdesses.
Mindfulness When we make efforts to be fully aware and awake to everything we do and all that surrounds us, we become mindful of God’s gifts and the grace available to us. “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2). This takes practice, joyful effort, and discipline.

One of the struggles of many Catholics is “praying more.” More than an item on our to-do lists, prayer is meant to be a
conversation between us and the One who loves us. Here are some tips to “spice” it up: When: Pick a time of the day to pray when you are alert and can
do your best thinking. 15-20 minutes is recommended for best results. Pick a time and protect it. What: With so many devotions to choose from, it can be hard to pray well in 20 minutes. Choose one devotion and set a number of days for it – two weeks, a month, two months. If the quality of your prayer didn’t improve afterwards, pick a different devotion. Why: Many times, we go to God looking for answers, which is good. However, prayer’s purpose isn’t about getting information from God, but developing a relationship with him. The best thing we can do is be present to the one who loves us and wants to be with us.
June 1 – St. Justin Martyr (165). Justin was a Christian convert who searched for Truth. After his conversion, he held debates with pagans. When ordered by a judge to renounce his faith or die, St. Justin responded, “Nobody in his senses would give up truth for falsehood.” He was martyred for his undying faith. June 8 – Solemnity of the Sacred Heart (1765). At the end of the seventeenth century, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque began receiving visions of Jesus, who urged her to spread devotion to the Sacred Heart. The
image of Jesus with his heart exposed in unquenchable �ame – the Sacred Heart – is a reminder of his intense and eternal love for us. June 29 – Saints Peter and Paul (1st Century). Peter was the apostle chosen by Jesus to lead the Church. The Gospels include some un�attering stories of Peter, showing that he was ordinary, made extraordinary by God’s grace. An early persecutor of the Church, Paul became the Great Apostle, also transformed by grace.
“Mass is the same every week. I don’t always get something out of going.” Sound familiar? A ritual we know so well can seem predictable or even routine. Consider these gifts you get from attending Mass: Open your mind to something new. Within the Mass are lots of intriguing, mysterious, or just plain interesting ideas. Listen during the Scripture readings, the homily, or the Eucharistic prayer for something that strikes you and talk with God about it. He’ll help open your mind to something new.
Help others without leaving your seat. We all know people near and far we would like to help. Distances and barriers disappear at Mass. When Jesus becomes present in the Eucharist, the entire Body of Christ is present. So you can pray for anyone you would like to support and the entire Body prays with you. Make a change. Find at least one idea within the Mass that makes sense and seems possible
and put it into practice. One new idea can change your life.

My prayer life is dull. How can I spice it up?
Sometimes God has to take drastic action to get our attention. Before John the Baptist was born, Zechariah was visited by an angel and told that his prayers for a son would be answered in a miraculous way. He also said Zechariah’s son would prepare Israel for the long hoped-for Savior. One might think that the appearance of an angel should have been enough to convince Zechariah of the truth of the message, but he was still skeptical that what the angel said was possible. He wasn’t listening with all his heart, so God shut Zechariah’s mouth
to make it easier for him to hear and see the truth. When the baby was
born, Zechariah demonstrated his
obedience in deciding to name the child John, just as
the angel had said, and his mouth was opened. Zechariah’s �rst words showered praise on God and told the people around him of God’s faithfulness and
awesome love. He reminded us that we can always trust God’s love and care. Listen for God’s voice and remember that all things are possible for God.

eliminó fueron escritos por inspiración divina y decidió
conservarlos (Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica, #120). El concilio de Trento
(1545-1563) rati�có la actual composición de la Biblia.
Cuando se cierra una casa durante un largo y sofocante invierno, la primavera es el momento de abrirla, de airearla y de darle una buena y enérgica limpieza. Hagan un examen espiritual honesto y pónganse a limpiar. Vacíen los armarios abarrotados. ¿Hay

conciencia que hay que limpiar y tirar
para que Dios ocupe el primer lugar en su
vida? ¿Guardan algún pecado sin confesar, un
rencor o una disputa no resuelta? Busquen perdón en el sacramento de la Penitencia y la Reconciliación (Confesión), cumplan la penitencia, enmienden lo necesario y sigan adelante. Refrésquense. ¿Qué cambio espiritual quieren
hacer? ¿Necesitan convertir la misa semanal en prioridad?
¿Tienen que remozar su vida de oración? ¿Les apetece aprender más
sobre su fe? Ahora es el momento de hacerlo.
Santa Germana Cousin Nacida de padres pobres cerca de
Pibrac, Francia, santa Germana tenía la mano derecha deforme, sufría de llagas en el cuello y su salud era enfermiza por el abandono y los abusos que padeció. A pesar de sus sufrimientos encontró solaz en la presencia de Dios y rezaba el Rosario mientras cuidaba las ovejas de su familia. Fue generosa con los pobres a pesar de su propia pobreza. Perdonó a su madrastra que la maltrató cruelmente. Es la patrona de las víctimas de abusos, de los discapacitados y de las pastoras.
Conciencia Cuando nos esforzamos por darnos cuenta de todo lo que hacemos y de todo lo que nos rodea, y por estar atentos a ello, somos conscientes de los dones de Dios y de la gracia a nuestra disposición. “Aspiren a las cosas de arriba, no a las de la tierra” (Colosenses 3:2). una conversación entre nosotros y el Dios que nos ama. He aquí algunos consejos para “animarla”: Cuándo: Elijan una hora del día para rezar en la que estén alerta y en la
que puedan pensar mejor. Se recomiendan 15-20 para conseguir los mejores resultados. Elijan una hora y protéjanla. Qué: Hay muchas devociones entre las que elegir y puede resultar difícil rezar bien en 20 minutos. Elijan una devoción y dedíquenle un número �jo de días: dos semanas, un mes, dos meses. Si no mejora la calidad de su oración, elijan una devoción distinta. Por qué: Acudimos muchas veces a Dios en busca de respuestas, lo que es bueno. El objetivo de la oración, sin embargo, no es conseguir información de Dios, sino desarrollar una relación con él. Lo mejor que podemos hacer colocarnos en la presencia del que nos ama y quiere estar con nosotros.
1 de junio – San Justino, mártir (165). Justino era un converso cristiano que buscaba la verdad. Después de su conversión celebraba debates con los paganos. Cuando un juez le ordenó que renunciara a su fe si no quería morir, san Justino respondió “Nadie cuerdo renunciaría a la verdad por la falsedad”. Fue martirizado por su fe imperecedera. 8 de junio – Solemnidad del Sagrado Corazón (1765). Al �nal del siglo XVII, santa Margarita María Alacoque empezó a recibir visiones de Jesús que le instaba a que divulgara la devoción al Sagrado Corazón. La imagen de Jesús con su
corazón expuesto en una llama inextinguible—el Sagrado Corazón—nos recuerda su amor intenso y eterno por nosotros. 29 de junio – San Pedro y san Pablo (siglo I). Pedro fue el apóstol elegido por Jesús para dirigir la Iglesia. Los evangelios incluyen algunas anécdotas poco favorecedoras de Pedro, mostrando que era un hombre ordinario al que la gracia de Dios hizo extraordinario. Perseguidor temprano de la Iglesia, Pablo se convirtió en el Gran Apóstol, transformado así mismo por la gracia.
“La misa es igual todas las semanas. No siempre le saco provecho”. ¿Le resulta familiar? Un rito que conocemos tan bien puede resultarnos previsible e incluso rutinario. Tenga en cuenta estos dones que reciben cuando van a misa: Abran la mente a algo nuevo. Dentro de la misa hay muchas ideas sugerentes, misteriosas y simplemente interesantes. Escuchen las lecturas de la Sagrada Escritura, la homilía o la plegaria eucarística atentos a lo que les atraiga y hablan de ello con Dios. Él les ayudará a abrir su mente a lo nuevo.
Ayuden a los demás sin levantarse de su sitio. Todos conocemos a gente por todas partes a la que querríamos ayudar. Las distancias y las barreras desaparecen en la misa. Cuando Jesús se hace presente en la Eucaristía, todo el Cuerpo de Cristo está presente. Así que pueden rezar por quienes quieran apoyar y todo el Cuerpo reza con ustedes. Cambien algo. Encuentren una idea al menos en la misa que entiendan y que les parezca posible
poner en práctica. Una nueva idea puede cambiar toda su vida.

Mi vida de oración es aburrida. ¿Cómo puedo animarla?
A veces Dios tiene que hacer algo drástico para conseguir nuestra atención. Antes de que naciera Juan el Bautista, Zacarías recibió la visita de un ángel que le dijo que sus oraciones serían milagrosamente atendidas. También dijo que el hijo de Zacarías prepararía a Israel para el deseado Salvador. Se podría pensar que la aparición de un ángel sería su�ciente para para convencer a Zacarías de la veracidad del mensaje, pero no se creía que fuera posible lo que dijo el ángel. No escuchaba con todo su corazón, así que Dios le cerró la boca a
Zacarías para que le resultara más fácil escuchar y ver la verdad. Cuando nació el
bebé, Zacarías demostró su obediencia llamando
al niño Juan, tal como le ordenó el ángel, y su boca se
abrió. Las primeras palabras de Dios fueron de alabanza a Dios y habló a quienes le rodeaban de la lealtad de Dios y de su asombroso amor. Nos recordó que siempre podemos con�ar
en el amor y en los cuidados de Dios. Escuchen la voz de Dios y recuerden que todo es posible para Dios.
