Selected Words for Vocabulary Strategies
List of Vocabulary strategies
Word Sort – index cards with pictures and words separated. Students will match the word with corresponding picture.
Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt – students will be given a sheet of paper with a list of the vocabulary words. They will search the classroom for the matching picture. Once they locate the matching picture they will take the miniature picture underneath the poster size picture and stick it on their sheet next to the corresponding vocabulary word.
Think-Pair-Share : Select a vocabulary word on the Word Wall. Think of the meaning and draw a picture of the meaning. They will pair up with a classmate and share their word and drawing.
Vocabulary book – students will be given the a eight page book made out of construction paper with the vocabulary words on each page. They will be given a sheet of vocabulary pictures. Students can cut out the pictures and glue it next to the matching word in the book.

Technology-based Vocabulary Strategies
Flip Chart – Students will match the corresponding word to the meaning. Students will also use a word bank to complete the missing word in the sentence. ( Teacher will facilitate this activity and read sentences with students.)

Whole Class Vocabulary Activity
Directions: Give each student an index card with
a number from 1-8 and a vocabulary word.
Click the Spin Button. When the wheel hits the number on
the index card, the student reads the word on their card and gives the meaning of the word.
