+2009 -10 Was a great year!

Northgate Focus On Learning made positive progress moving towards a Professional Community Of Teachers/Learners at Northgate High, specifically school wide goals for all Northgate graduates:

Advanced Placement Courses/Students passing tests increased

Northgate Athletics won the League title for most champions

Northgate Performing Arts entertained and “wowed” our community with their professional shows/concerts

+Expectations for Administrators

Models of treating all who work and visit school with respect

Visible before/after school, at brunch and lunch. Visit classrooms at least once per week

Respond to teacher e-mail and phone calls within 24 hrs, 48 hrs at latest

Respond to critical teacher communication ASAP

+Expectations for Teachers

Models of treating all who work and visit school with respect

Parents will be called on all referrals prior to sending the referral to administration

Teachers will take role in the first 5 minutes of class

Respond to parent e-mail and phone calls within 24 hrs, 48 hrs at latest

Respond to critical parent communication ASAP

+Expectations for Teachers

Parents will be notified in a timely manner if students are not performing in class

Teachers will post grades on line, maintain the online grades in a timely manner

+Expectations for Parents:

Parents will discuss school with their children every day

Parents will model and promote positive problem solving solutions with their children when discussing problems at school with staff or other students

Parents will keep current with their student’s progress through ABI

Parents will participate in Northgate functions such as PFC meetings, Campus Clean Up days, and the Winter Social

+Vision All students can learn. We will intervene with multiple

interventions for those who are not

We are capable of creating the model school wherein all students learn at high levels

All students engage in rigorous, challenging curriculum

+Protocol for Conflict Resolution Parent with concern discusses issue with teacher

If discussion fails to resolve issue parent contacts the administrator in charge of teacher’s department. Administrator will discuss with teacher or convene a conflict resolution with teacher – parent - student

If conflict resolution fails to resolve issue parent will contact Principal

+ Common Agreements:

1. Sustained Silent Reading A. All will read including the

teacher B. Research tells us SSR is

most effective if teachers model reading and give discussion time to the reading following the reading time.

+Common Agreements:Study Session:A. No students in and out without a study session pass

B. Teachers will sign a pass for students to return to class they came from

C. Students will stay in the class they to for study session until the end of the session.

+ Collaboration time is sacred time

A. Thursday time is set aside for collaboration on student learning.

B. Conversation will be focused, professional, data driven dialogue. Student assessment data which reveals common standards, know/do, will provide teams of teachers data on their high standards have been met
