In Chapter 10 of The Kite Runner, Baba struggles to acclimate to his new home in California. Amir says,“A year and a half since we’d stepped off the Boeing from Peshawar, and Baba was still adjusting.” Baba has difficulty adapting to American culture. He refuses to embrace some of the customs of America, such as learning to speak English. He finds every part of California inferior to Kabul.
