6. Teacher Support Materials
Learning Objective: Student will be able to research and outline proper techniques and procedures for setting up a fish aquarium in order to create a pamphlet on how to set up a fish tank.
This activity helps to prepare students for setting up aquariums in the Marine Science classroom. Instead of the information being presented by the teacher, students investigate online sources to determine the steps needed to successfully set-up a fish tank. Setting up of the fish tanks by students, gives students ownership of the aquariums and motivates them to properly care for the fish and their living space.
Once the tanks are up and running they will be utilized to observe fish behavior, analyze the chemical components of the water and investigate how nutrients are cycled.
