May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell, Sa-tan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seek-ing the ruin of souls. OUR HEART GOES OUT TO YOU FOR
REFLECTING CHRIST’S LOVE SO BEAUTIFULLY
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the many volunteers and parishioners for your amazing support during the Advent Food Drive. Because of your generosity and referral of families, we were able to provide hope and a wonderful Christmas meal for 99 families in our community.
As the volunteer drivers delivered the food to the families, they heard repeatedly how grateful the families were and how appreciative they were for the abundance of food. All was due to your generous contributions of food each week.
We also are grateful to the OLQP Confirmation students who weekly sorted and inventoried the food, the parish members who went forth to purchase food in areas of shortage, the baggers who quickly packed the family bags, and the drivers who made deliveries on December 20th!
The many hands of those who contributed to the Advent Food Drive animated the works of mercy that we are each called to perform through our baptism. By fulfilling Christ’s call to feed the hungry, you so beautifully reflected his burning heart of compassion!

Divorced and Re-married? If you are divorced and remarried outside of the Catholic Church without a Decree of Invalidity, or if you are married outside of the Catholic Church, you may not partake of the Sacraments, including the reception of Holy Communion. Until it is shown otherwise through the ministry of the Tribunal, no person is free to enter into another marriage without the appearance or occasion of serious sin. A divorce alone would not affect, or hinder in any way, your participation in the Catholic Church. A divorced Catholic is free to receive the sacraments. However, if you are divorced and have remarried, or if you are divorced and in a new relationship, or if you are living with someone without a Decree of Invalidity (and your former spouse is still living) you may not par-take of the sacraments, including the reception of Holy Commun-ion.
Consider seeking a Decree of Invalidity which will enable you to return to a full participation in the sacramental life of the Church. For more information contact Deacon Jim Bindel at the Church office at 696-1253.

At the baptism of Jesus, a voice came from heaven saying, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased." Through Baptism, Jesus' identity as God's Son is revealed and understood. He knows very clearly who he is. Baptism does the same for us. It gives us our identity as daughters and sons of God. We have the wonderful opportunity, giv-en to us as a gift, to share in the same intimate relationship Jesus has with God
his Father. Being a daughter or son of God gives us a unique and focused mission to which we must be faithful. Our identity, as with Jesus, is rooted in God. This is a simple fact we all must accept. Through Baptism, we are given the power and ability to see the world as God sees and to think and act as God would think and act. This is a tall order but one that will lead us to truth and ultimately to happiness.

“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” – Luke 3:22b
Baptism welcomes us into the Christian community . . . it welcomes us into the family of God! It is the sacrament that forgives us of original and personal sin. And, it is the sacrament that sends us forth to build the Kingdom of God. Jesus shows us how obedient he was to the Father’s will when he asks to be baptized, even though he was already God’s Son. The Father recognizes Jesus’ obedience and sends the Holy Spirit to let everyone know that he loves Jesus very much and that baptism brings us into the family of God. As the Spirit descends, God the Father speaks and says, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Did you know that God the Father and Jesus (God the Son) are pleased when we are baptized? They now send us the same Holy Spirit at baptism to draw us into the family of God. God the Holy Spirit is very important because he guides us in making good choices and obeying our earthly fathers and mothers. Isn’t it wonderful to be a member of God’s great big family?
Think of what it's like to wait a long time. Can you imagine what it would be like to wait for centuries? No one person lives that long, of course. But for the Israelites, they had heard the stories from generation to generation. They had been conquered time and time again, and now "the people were filled with expectation, and all were asking in their hearts whether John might be the Christ." They had been waiting for a Messiah, one who did miraculous deeds and said profound things; someone aglow with the glory of God. We all know what it's like to hope and be disappointed. But what if your hopes were fulfilled? That day at the Jordan River, an audience had gathered. Among the crowd for baptism was an unknown man. Perhaps he was dirty from weeks in the desert. His hands had the calloused palms of a tradesman, a carpenter. He and John the Baptist may have embraced with the familiarity of the cousins they were. This man wades into the Jordan for a good, solid dunking. As he rises from the water, the One who breathed life into Adam gasps for air like any other man. But then "heaven was opened." The clouds in the sky part miles above. "And the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove." An apparition with substance sails through the sky. It exudes gentleness and power all at once. "And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.'" Can you imagine the sight? For the crowd, there is no doubting what they have seen, who they have seen. Can you imagine this encounter with our God who keeps His promises? What are you waiting for?
