MID-LENT CHECK-IN. God says to Moses, “This is what you shall tell the Israelites: I AM sent me to you . . . The Lord, the God of your [ancestors], the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:14, 15). As Jesus would later say, God is

not a God of the dead, but of the living, and so we believe that the dead will one day rise. At this midpoint of Lent, we pause to consider how our repentance is leading us to the Resurrection, to our reunion with the great “I AM.” Part of our repentance involves working to secure justice for all and helping our neighbor to live in God’s ways. We encourage each other and nurture each other, like the compassionate gardener of today’s Gospel, who tells the owner of the orchard that he will nurture the tree, fertilize it, and perhaps it will bear fruit.

Third Sunday of Lent During Lent, Fridays are Lenten Family Fridays with a Meatless Dinner in Saint Andrew Hall at 6 pm followed by the Stations of the Cross at 7 pm. All families are invited to make a special effort of sacrifice and prayer together as a family during Lent. REMINDER: Fridays during

Lent are days of abstinence from meat. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence.

Flowers for the Altar The austerity of the Lenten Season is dictated not only by sorrow for sin, but also by the character of Lent as a time of waiting and

anticipation for the coming of the Easter Celebration. In keeping with this anticipation, there will be NO FLOWERS on the altar until Laetare (Rose) Sunday and Palm Sunday.

EASTER LILIES can be ordered this weekend! The cost is $13.00 each. Please help us adorn the altar for our Easter Celebration this year. See Memorial Sheet Insert to place your orders.

Our Lady of the Lake’s Men’s Club Scholarships are open to all High School Seniors who are members of Our Lady of the Lake Parish. Applications can be found in the Vollkommer Bell Tower. Deadline to apply will be on or

before midnight, April 29, 2019, with recipients to be announced at Mass. This year, the Men’s Club will be awarding three $3,000 Scholarships to be paid over a 2-year period $1,500 per year. The Scholarships are now FAITH-BASED. Good luck to all!

The Mid-Year Finance Council Report to Parishioners for the Six Months Ending December 31, 2018 is now available. Hand-outs can be picked up in the Parish Office or found on the Parish’s website, www.ollchapin.org

The Vigil Mass on Saturday is offered for the repose of the soul of his father, Sarkis Joseph Sarkis, at the request of Michael Sarkis and Family. The Mass at 8:00

a.m. is offered for the repose of the soul of John Falkiewicz, Carol Clark’s father, at the request of Phil & Carol Clark. The Mass at 10:30 a.m. is offered for the repose of the soul of William P. Hrica, Jr., Tom Hrica’s brother. The LIFE TEEN Mass at 5 pm is offered as a Missa Pro Populo (Mass for the People). Our Lady of the Lake Stewardship Committee is focused on enhancing the Time, Talent and Treasure opportunities for our Parish. Let’s look at several ministries that you might be able to serve (Talent) as your Time permits.

K4-5 For all children of the Parish from K-4 through 5th grade, and is just the beginning of a life-time faith formation process. Classes are held each Sunday from 9:15 am to 10:15 am. We are always looking for teachers and aides to help teach the children about their Catholic faith, and bring them closer to God. This begins the sacramental preparation for First Communion and Confirmation. Contact Cassy Vernau, D.R.E. 803-447-5132, [email protected]

EDGE (Junior High) For junior high school students in grades 6 to 8. The EDGE program provides a fun, safe and interactive place for junior high youth to find a solid Catholic community, to get answers to questions about their faith, and to experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. The Core Team of adult volunteers helps to plan, organize and present the EDGE program on Sundays from 3:45 pm to 5 pm in the Family Life Center. The Core Team welcomes volunteers and chaperones to facilitate EDGE activities and other junior high events. Contact Megan Shealy 803-814-5735, [email protected]

LIFE TEEN (Senior High Youth Group) Youth fellowship and activities for grades 9-12 is on Sunday nights from 6:15 to 7:30 pm. Teens are provided with an opportunity to build relationships with other Catholic teens. Teens also develop a deeper appreciation for the Mass and Holy Eucharist, bringing them closer to God. Adult volunteers are needed to help supervise the activities and chaperone events. Contact Megan Shealy 803-814-5735, [email protected]

Penitential Act: Confiteor

I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters, that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and in what I have failed to do, (strike breast) through my

fault, though my fault, through my most

grievous fault; therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Profession of Faith: Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of

heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only

Son, our Lord: (all bow) Who was conceived by

the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; suf-

fered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died

and was buried. He descended into hell; the third

day He rose again from the dead; He ascended

into heaven, is seated at the right hand of God

the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come

to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the

Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the com-

munion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the res-

urrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

"Is anyone among you sick? They should summon the presbyters of the church, to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person and the Lord will raise them up. If they have committed any sins, they will be forgiven." (James 5:14)

In the sacrament we pray that the sick be healed in body, in mind and in spirit. The mission of the Church is to do what Jesus did. Healing was essential to the mission of the disciples. If you are experiencing the effects of illness, advanced age, preparing for surgery and seek the healing power of the sacrament you are encouraged to ask Father Dennis to celebrate the Anointing of the Sick with you. You or a family member can contact the parish office at 803.345.3962 or call Father’s cell phone at 843.834.5447.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes to Kurt Lang & Family on the recent passing of Carolyn Lang. Kurt & Carolyn have been parishioners since before the Parish was a Parish, and were involved in many aspects of our faith community. Carolyn was the 1st Bulletin Editor and typed away for 10 years

on her trusty typewriter every week. She taught this Bulletin Editor everything there was to know. She will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kurt and the Family and loved ones.

Lighthouse Catholic Ministry Unpack the Passion Mystery

With these two CDs, you can unpack the Passion Mystery like never before. Dr Scott Hahn, celebrated theologian and professor at the Franciscan University of Steubenville, might as well be inviting us into one of his graduate theology classes. Let’s put thinking caps on and be ready for a challenging ride.

Start with “Seven Last Sayings of Christ” in which Dr Hahn unlocks for us the deeper significance of Our Lord's last words, carefully chosen so

that we might better understand the immense love of God for every person and His plan of salvation Christ’s words, “It is finished,” what does “it” refer to? Dr Hahn touches on this question in this first CD, but digs into it in great depth in “The Fourth Cup.” Here, Dr Hahn traces “it” back to the Last Supper, the Jewish Passover, and even farther back, to the time when God pledged his covenant with Israel.
