DAILY REFLECTIONS FROM FR. JOHN TORRANCE

SUNDAY Scripture Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise. Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds! Psalm 66:1-2Reflection It seems to me that the world is quieter. Maybe its because so many things are shut down. But every so often I hear a sound of children laughing. This is certainly a joyful noise unto the Lord. We need more of these joyful sounds, of raising them to the Lord. How can you make a joyful sound?Prayer.Lord, in these difficult times, help us to make joyful noises to you and to those around us. Amen.MONDAY ScriptureSing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of the faithful. Let Israel be glad in its Maker; let the children of Zion rejoice in their King. Let them praise his name with dancing, making melody to him with tambourine and lyre. Psalm 149:1-3

ReflectionWe have many things to be thankful for, even when it is not easy to think that way. At times it is easier to grumble than to give thanks. Think of five reasons to give thanks today.PrayerLord Jesus, you fill the world with wonder and delight. Open our hearts and minds to see the wonders that surround us. Amen.

TUESDAYScriptureThe Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, Our Lord, endures forever.Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalm 138:8ReflectionAt times it is hard to see that there is a purpose hidden in the pandemic. Good can grow out of it. Maybe we won’t see it now, but hopefully, we will see the purpose for this time.PrayerLord, help us to see beyond the present moment, to see how you are constantly at work in our lives. Amen.WEDNESDAY ScriptureWhen the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13ReflectionWe hear so many conflicting stories about the Covid 19 virus. Some of it is rooted in science, some in fiction. Where do you go to find what is true?PrayerLord, open our minds to the truth, to those who are trying to lead us to conquer this pandemic. Amen.THURSDAY ScriptureVery truly, I tell you, you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice; you will have pain, but your pain will turn into joy. John 16:20ReflectionPeople are handling this lockdown in various ways. It is a struggle. Every so often, something will make me laugh and lifts me up. Take up the challenge. Find some reason to laugh.PrayerLord, you are with us in our tears and our laughter. Help us to keep in mind that a time to rejoice is coming. Amen.FRIDAY ScriptureWhen they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” John 21:15Reflection

Jesus asked Peter three times, “do you love me”. Of course Peter said yes. There are many ways to express love, for family, friends, strangers. Take time today to make some concrete expression of love.PrayerLord, you have loved us more than we can imagine. Help us to show that love to those we meet. Amen.

SATURDAY ScriptureClap your hands, all you people; shout to God with loud songs of joy. Psalm 47:1ReflectionSome time back, people were banging pots, and clapping hands. It seems to have tapered off. Take some time to make a joyful noise for those who continue to work so hard for us. Amen.PrayerLord, we give thanks for all who are putting the lives of others ahead of their own. Amen.

Brendan McManus SJ and Jim Deeds have written a 14 day ‘Isolation’ retreat specifically for Sacred Space during this Coronavirus crisis. Using meditations from their two books, Finding God in the Mess and Deeper into the Mess, they have shaped a 14 day retreat around themes loosely based on the Spiritual Exercises of

St Ignatius. Each day has a specific theme, a preparatory prayer, an introduction to the themes, three related scripture quotes, some questions for reflection and a closing prayer.People can use this resource in a number of ways:• follow the programme for the 14 days;• dip into the themes that speak to you, for example the meditation on fear;• or use the meditations as daily prayer. It can be used in any of these ways to get reassurance that God is with you during this difficult time, to deepen your prayer life or to provide a safe space away from

This is an opportunity to have your voice heard and be a participant in determining the direction of our organization. The difference between a membership-based nonprofit and a non-membership-based nonprofit is:       In a membership based nonprofit organization, non-board members who become members can voice their opinion on management issues, performance and the operation of the nonprofit.         In a non-membership based nonprofit, outside supporters are not involved in the process and board members make all the decisions regarding the management of the organization. There are important battles to fight—diseases to cure, hungry children and families to feed, open spaces to protect, and much more. But it takes more than passion for a cause for an organization to be an effective nonprofit leader and win battles. It takes tools, resources, and expertise. Here is a chance to share your knowledge and be involved.Show Your SupportBecome a member of ARC by supporting the efforts of the Networking and Partnership Initiative. With your help and involvement, we can grow access to health and social services in the English language in the Montérégie-Centre, by allowing ARC to collaborate with various partners. Your membership will help sustain community initiatives and maintain access to health and social services in English, especially for those who experience difficulties expressing themselves in French.Benefits of membership?·         The yearly $10 membership will give you the right to vote at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), elect the Board of Directors, and even consider sitting on the Board.  ·         An opportunity to have your opinion heard and counted, thereby a hand in determining the direction of our organization.·         Either free access or a discount to all programs, activities and services offered by ARC.·         Above all, it will give you a chance to be a part of this growing organization.Simply complete the form below and return it by mail with your payment.
