WORSHIP AID FOR AUGUST 8-9

Opening Hymn — I Sing the Mighty Power of God

I sing the mighty power of God that made the mountains rise, That spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies. I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule by day; The moon shines full at God’s command, and all the seas obey. I sing the goodness of the Lord that filled the earth with food. God formed the creatures with a word and then pronounced them good. Lord, how your wonders are displayed wher’er I turn my eye, If I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

Text: Isaac watts, 1674-1748, alt. Tune: MOZART, CMD, adapted from Wolfgang A. Mozart, 1756-1791.

Penitential Act B:

Priest: Have mercy on us, O Lord. People: For we have sinned against you. Priest: Show us, O Lord, your mercy. People: And grant us your salvation. Gloria (sung)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord, Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen. Responsorial Psalm — Psalm 85

Blessed are those who trust in the Lord; the Lord will be their trust.

WORSHIP AID FOR AUGUST 8-9

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. (All bow at the following words through “and became man.”) For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the father and the Son, who with the father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. Preparation of the Gifts

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of His name, for our good and the good of all His holy Church. Sanctus

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. Memorial Acclamation

We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again. Invitation to Communion

Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

Please remain at your seat to receive Holy Communion. The ministers will come to you through the empty row in front of you.

As the minister approaches, please stand if you are able and remove your mask. You are asked to please receive Holy Communion in the hand.

After receiving Communion, you may kneel or be seated and replace your mask.

WORSHIP AID FOR AUGUST 8-9

Communion Hymn — Be Not Afraid

You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst. You shall wander far in safety though you do not know the way. You shall speak your words in foreign lands and all will understand. You shall see the face of God and live.

Refrain: Be not afraid. I go before you always. Come, follow me, and I will give you rest.

If you pass through raging waters in the sea, you shall not drown. If you walk amidst the burning flames, you shall not be harmed. If you stand before the pow’r of hell and death is at your side, know that I am with you through it all. (Refrain)

Blessed are your poor, for the kingdom shall be theirs. Blest are you that weep and mourn, for one day you shall laugh. And if wicked tongues insult and hate you all because of me, blessed, blessed are you! (Refrain)

Text: Isaiah 43:2-3, Luke 6:20ff; Bob Dufford, SJ, b. 1943 Tune: Bob Dufford, SJ, b. 1943; Text & music © 1975, 1978, 2003, Robert J. Dufford, SJ. Published by OCP. All rights reserved.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. Closing Hymn — All Creatures of Our God and King

All creatures of our God and King, lift up your voice and with us sing: Alleluia! Alleluia! O burning sun with golden beam and silver moon with softer gleam, Sing your praises! Alleluia…

Let all things their Creator bless, and worship God in humbleness, Sing your praises! Alleluia! Praise God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit, Three in One! Sing your Praises! Alleluia…

PARISH NEWS Dear Parishioners,

A missionary from East Africa told this story to people who were preparing to study the Bible:

There was a pious woman who was accustomed to walking around the village with her bulky Bible. She was never without it. So, it wasn’t long before all of the villagers began to tease her: “Why do you always have your Bible?” They asked her repeatedly. “There are so many other books you can read, why only that one?” The woman, however, rarely gave an answer to these questions.

The woman did not let any of the questions or comments get to her. She continued living, carrying her bulky Bible wherever she went. Then one day when she was being teased — out of blue, she knelt down right in the midst of all of the people. She held the Bible up high above her head, and with a great big smile on her face said, “Yes, of course there are many books which I could read. Now, I want one of you to tell me… can any of those books do what the Bible can do for me? I want you all to realize that in all of my years of having read many, many books, no other books except the Bible has been able to read me!” The woman, lowered the Bible, quietly got up, and walked away.

Reading the Bible is very good for each of us, especially to grow in a deeper understanding of God’s action in our lives. Have you ever had the realization that the Bible was “reading” you? Have a great week!

Love, Fr. Bill

PARISH NEWS

Parish Nurse Tip of the Week What to Know About Immunizations

Varicella or Chickenpox Vaccine is the best way to pre-vent a chickenpox infection. This can be very serious if it occurs in adulthood. It’s a one-time, two-dose series and is recommended for adults who are not already immune to the chickenpox virus and for women who don’t have evidence of immunity and upon completion of a pregnancy.

Pneumococcal (Pneumonia) Vaccine does not necessarily reduce your risk of contracting pneumonia, but it may prevent some of its serious complications, such as an infection throughout the body (septicemia). This is a one or two-dose series based on your doctor’s recommendation. The pneumonia vac-cine is recommended for adults 65 and older, adults 19 to 64, who are at risk based on medical, occupational, life-style or other indications such as asthma or smokers.

Prayer to Mary, Undoer of Knots

Virgin Mary, Mother of Fair Love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by Divine Love and immense mercy that exists in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exists in my life. You know very well how desperate I am, my pain and how I am bound by these knots.

Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of His children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life. No one, not even the evil one himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone. Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and my Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot…

mention your petition(s) here

I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once and for all. You are my hope. O my Lady, you are a great consolation that God gives me, the fortification of my feeble strength, the enrichment of my destitution, and with Christ, the freedom from my chains.

Hear my plea. Keep me, guide me, and protect me, O safe refuge! Amen.

PARISH NEWS Transformative Effects of Mindful Self-Compassion No one can argue that these are difficult times. We are all experiencing levels of stress and anxiety as we try to nav-

igate through all that is going on in our world. Research into self-compassion shows that individuals who are more self-compassionate tend to have greater happiness; life satisfac-

tion and motivation; better relationships and physical health; and less anxiety and depression. They also have the resilience needed to cope with stressful life events such as divorce, health crises, and academic failure, com-bat trauma, and yes — in dealing with a global pandemic and a country in turmoil!

Self-compassion involves treating yourself the way you would treat a friend who is having a hard time. This in-volves three elements: self-kindness, common humanity (the recognition that everyone makes mistakes and feels pain), and mindfulness.

If you would like to discuss this with a listening friend, we have trained Spiritual Directors in our parish who can help people explore what is going on in their lives. Contact Suzanne Marciniak at 419-475-4348, ext. 109, or at [email protected].

Another option — read the book, The Mindful Self-Compassion Workbook by Kristin Neff. Remember, be kind to yourself during these trying times! You really are doing an amazing job!

RCIA Sessions this Fall

Are You Interested in the Catholic Faith?

We will soon begin a new journey in faith to share the richness of the Catholic Church and our parish family. You are invited to learn what the Church teaches and be introduced to some of our parish members. These ses-sions also are opportunities for you to ask those perplex-ing questions you may have about the Church. These gatherings are for adults who have never been baptized; Christians who seek to join the Catholic Church; or Cath-olics who never received Confirmation or Eucharist. Ses-sions will be adapted according to the COVID-19 guide-lines. The first session will be Wednesday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. To discuss your questions and learn about the process this year, call Suzanne Marciniak at 419-475-4348, ext. 109, or e-mail [email protected].

Infant Baptism Preparation Infants remind us of the Miracle of Life and the tremendous Gift God gives us. As a community, we offer parents our support and prayers for their families. We live our faith with the hope that new parents will pass on our Faith to the next generation.

First Time Parents — Due to the current health situation with COVID-19, in lieu of our regular New Parent Morn-ing of Prayer and Reflection, Christ the King is offering a remote Baptismal Preparation Course through Ascension Press. For more or to register, call Amanda at 419-475-4348, ext. 115, or e-mail [email protected].

Heartbeat of Toledo - the Mission Continues You are vital to the ability for them to continue Heartbeat’s life-affirming mission — to serve women with unplanned preg-nancy and families desperate for education, support, and

emergency items for their children. With respect to the international pandemic, they have cancelled all fundraising events for 2020. They made this difficult decision in re-sponse to national mandates and to

preserve the health and safety of the community. Despite their cancelled banquet, thank you to the following sponsors:

Platinum Sponsors — Hal and Kelly Reed family and the William Vaughan Company

Gold Sponsors — Patricia Winkler (in memory of Billie Simon) and Lorraine Caserta

Silver Sponsors — Perrysburg Auto Mall, Dr. and Mrs. John Hasley and Physician Healthcare Consulting, Dr. Harvey Popovich

Bronze Sponsors — Foundation for Life, Kathleen Kavanaugh and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Welch

Heartbeat is committed to providing the same support to women and families in the community during these unprece-dented times. But, your help is needed. Normally they part-ner with area churches and congregations across Northwest Ohio through their Baby Bottle Campaign. Friends fill a baby bottle with cash donations that help fund the services Heartbeat provides. With church attendance low, a national change shortage, and a $60,000 budget gap — your help is urgently needed. One baby bottle holds $125 in quarters. $125 provides a preg-nancy test, ultrasound, options counsel-ing, and a STD test to a woman in cri-sis, facing an unplanned pregnancy to include an RDMS Sonographer, RN and social worker, at Your First Look, Women’s Center. $125 provides the prenatal and parenting educational cur-riculum for a family for two years through their Heart to Heart Program. $125 provides a lo-cal child the diapers, wipes, and formula that her parents cannot afford because of a job loss. Will you consider join-ing in this effort and committing to $125 today? Donate securely online at www.heartbeatoftoledo.org/donate-now or scan the Paypal QR code. Please give generously as this work is so important. Join in speaking life into families, as the hands and feet in a broken and frightened world.

Thank you for your support of Heartbeat!

Their goal is to greet the workers and assist in their pastoral and spiritual needs. Fr. Albano will offer Mass in Spanish at some of the camps or local parishes. As they minister, Father Albano and Brother Abery will share stories from migrant workers. They will chronicle their journey on the Diocese of Toledo social me-dia. If you would like to support this ministry, contact An-drea De la Roca, Coordinator of Intercultural Ministries at [email protected] or by phone at 419-966-5257.
