Amazing Skill in Mathematics

On Friday the students of Franklin Public School were absorbed by the world of mathematics.

The students spent the morning with “sweaty brains” engaging in rich mathematical thinking to

solve a variety of problems.

Students moved around to different classrooms to encounter a number of opportunities to use

the skills that they have been learning to build their numeracy skills. Students used such skills as

“turn and talk” and “reasoning.”

Through sweaty brains the students were able to explain their thinking and model how to solve

the problem they had been given. Many students discovered that there is often more than one-

way to solve a problem and many problems have multiple answers. Teachers have been helping

students to develop their skills of “reasoning” and the ability to explain and convince others on

how they believe they can solve the problem.

For a Farmer Fundraiser! This Wednesday is your chance to come dressed in

mufti with a touch of country life to help raise

money for farmers struggling in the drought across

New South Wales.

Bring a gold coin donation to take part in this

worthy farm themed mufti day! All money will be

collected by the SRC on Wednesday and will go

towards the Buy a Bale campaign.

Plenty of Playground!

Students at Franklin are extremely lucky to have beautiful and spacious grounds for them to play in. We have two huge ovals

divided into infant and primary, where many games of soccer and touch football are played. Students can also develop their

basketball and netball skills on the basketball court and mini ball courts. These areas are being updated by having the lines

repainted in time for basketball season. Infant students have access to a cubby house to have the opportunity to participate in role

play games to develop their social skills. We have under cover gym equipment to play on to develop upper body strength and the

sandpit to help our fine motor skills.

CELEBRATING FRANKLIN!

TOGETHER WE LEARN

Franklin Public School is now enrolling for 2019!

To meet a friendly staff member for a school tour please enquire through our school office on (02) 6947 1533.

Wellbeing and Health-in Reach Nurse

Franklin has recently been appointed a WHIN (Wellbeing and Health In-Reach Nurse Co-

ordinator). Caitlin Larter’s role within the school will be to provide health promotion within

the school as well as linking to local health services, NGOS (ie. Mission Australia) and

identifying barriers to improve access to care for students and their families. In the

community she will work on identifying gaps in services and making sure these are bridged

to create stronger connections and provide early interventions to improve and support

educational outcomes. Caitlin will work with teachers to identify students at risk and assist

in educating teachers in how they can further support their students.

Last week at Tumut Schools As community Centre we had lots of fun outside in the sunshine enjoying the warmer

weather, exploring and learning about spring! We planted lovely succulents, colour sorted flowers and developed our

fine motor skills by threading using only lemon leaves and string to create natural scented garlands.

This week were extending our spring exploration with beautiful blossom still life painting, a sensory experience, insect

observation and drawing. As well as planting vibrant flowers using play doh and we’ll be using all sorts of spring things at

our number table to assist with number recognition and counting skills!

in Action!

3/4 Wentworth had a wonderful time during ‘Super Sleuth

Day,’ investigating and collaborating to work out a

Mathematical problem!

Students loved working together to solve the problems!

Students busily discussing what strategies they would use to

tackle the problem. Here they are using the ‘turn and talk’

strategy.
