FY10 JULY 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010

BEING LOCAL has always been New Hampshire Public Television’s mission. We’ve been proudly local for more than 50 years, sharing stories about the Granite State and northern New England. Beyond the TV and computer screens that show our award-winning programs, NHPTV’s educational services and community initiatives support our mission of engaging minds, connecting communities and celebrating New Hampshire.

Here are some of the highlights we’re particularly proud of from FY10 (7/1/09 - 6/30/10):

Our locally focused programs. Journey of the Broad-Winged Hawk, a documentary that traveled from the White Mountains to the jungles of Ecuador to tell the story of this hawk’s migration, won both a New England Emmy and a Telly.

Other programs received recognition for excellence, too, including NH Outlook and Windows to the Wild. Our Planet Granite community initiative’s “Green Scenes” mini-series was recognized, along with our MESY Moments (Math + Engineering + Science + You!) mini-series.

A unique multi-platform collaboration with Maine and Vermont public television

created Making $ense New England, a 10-part series combining advice with stories of how resourceful northern New Englanders were weathering the economic downturn.

As part of our service, NHPTV airs independently produced programs such as Including Samuel that have a local focus, and we extend the content into the classroom and communities. Concord resident Dan Habib’s documentary aired in April, and told of his family’s hopes and struggles with his son Samuel’s disability.

Granite State Challenge’s 27th season ended with a big buzz, as Manchester Central High won the academic quiz competition in an exciting last round.

Special PBS guests: We welcomed Gwen Ifill of the PBS NewsHour at our Women of Influence luncheon in the fall. Antiques Roadshow executive director Marsha Bemko took us behind-the-scenes of that favorite treasure hunting show at our gala in June.

NHPTV’s educational services, delivered by our Knowledge Network department, provided educators, parents and children with K-12 services, workshops, and website resources. The

website alone had over 3 million visitors in a 12-month period, supporting more than 55 hours of quality PBS children’s programming each week.

We said cheers! in August at our Passport Craft Beer and Food event, held in partnership with Strawbery Banke Museum. Local breweries and restaurants participated, and 500 guests enjoyed the pairings in Portsmouth. We also hosted swing band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in Concord in the fall.

Despite the recession, the 36th NHPTV Spring Auction raised nearly $450,000. As always, our loyal volunteers get much of the credit for its success. And our first online Winter Holiday Auction was a great success.

Since June 2010, more viewers have been tuned in and enjoying our unique programming. Comcast now carries our digital channels NHPTV PRIME HD and NHPTV EXPLORE in New Hampshire, Southern Maine and northern Massachusetts.

Thank you for making NHPTV’s programs and educational services possible to all.
