The lowest input major breed – MARC data shows Gelbvieh’s advantage in mature cow size, lower maintenance and feed costs, early puberty, fertility and milk.

Higher output – Calves with bigger weaning weights, fast feedlot gains and more carcass weight, more pounds, more dollars!

Take another look – Through selection Gelbvieh breeders have reduced birth weight and shortened gestation length.

The perfect complement – Gelbvieh bulls on British-based cowherds, the SmartCross® system.

Today’s beef business...

Dear Gelbvieh Enthusiasts and Friends,

It is with great honor and pleasure that we present to you the 2009 National

Gelbvieh Sale! Shortly after agreeing to manage the National Sale, I discov-

ered that this has been a team effort of breeders, staff, directors, and pro-

fessionals to bring you “New Deal 2009.” We are so proud of the steps that

were taken to bring back the positive energy and excitement to the breed

and to the National Sale!

There have been many changes to the National Sale. The obvious is the

addition of technology. The DVD allows each and everyone of us to have a

front row chair to the cattle and genetics being offered. The second is the

simple change in attitude and perception.

We have visited with many breeders across the country and we are so proud

of the new excitement in the breed. We realize that the power of our atti-

tudes and how we perceive ourselves and our operations is a direct correla-

tion to the profit we make on our genetics. People are talking….People are

promoting…..People are Marketing…..People are simply telling the story of

why Gelbvieh Cattle are the best kept secret in the beef industry.

This year we offer you “Great Genetics, Great Programs, from Great People.”

These cattle can perform, produce, and profit. We have assembled a set of

bulls and females that hold opportunities, opportunities to help you obtain

your specific goals and outcomes. Each one of us could use any of these of-

ferings and make them work in our herds. That is the power of this sale.

I encourage all of us participate in the National Sale and Convention. There

are many Gelbvieh professional available to assist you in finding the genetics

package that fits your program!

Respectfully,

Jeff “Tigger” Erhardt

A big thank you goes to both the Priest and Haglund families for their dedication to the American Gelbvieh Junior Association. GALG 62U3 “Miss Sweet Thing” (GALG 62U3) has champion written all over her. In her only outing, she won her Division at the Kansas State Fair this year. We believe this female has the potential to be one of the great ones. Her disposition is just a bonus…you can start the Rookie Junior right here and expect great things. Structural correctness and pedigree with potential and stayability – this little lady’s dam is still in production and looks like she’ll be around for quite a while. Testing for Homozygous Polled – only 1 horned animal in 3 past generations. We are retaining 1 flush at the buyer’s convenience and at our expense.

RCMP Y2K SEBASTIAN Y2K Sebastian is one of the most unique sires to hit the Gelbvieh business in years. Few bulls in any breed bridge solid carcass gentics with near flawless phenotype and true performance. This outcross sire to 2106, Bronco and Fortune sports excellent actual performance and is backed by dam who is “right-sized” with an excellent udder. We so believe in Y2K Sebastian’s genetic potential we have placed his top sons at the Midland Bull Station to be Efficiency Tested (RFI) via the “GrowSafe System” and preliminary data is very promising. We will continue heavy use of Sebastian in the coming years for both our purebred and Balancer cow families to stack carcass genetics with that soggy, thick look. If you’re looking for new, fresh genetics with that “carcass punch”, you owe it to yourself to inspect Y2K Sebastian.

PICK OF THE DENVER BULLS

Dromgoole’s Heaven is offering the solution to your bull dilemma. Need that new herd sire? Well you can take one or all of DH’s top picks from the 2008 bull crop. Dromgoole’s has brought their top yearling bulls to compete in the 2009 National Western Pen Show, and they are offering all of them for sale. Take one or take all!! The sire of this lot is no other than, Headline!! Fast becoming one of the most popular bulls in the Gelbvieh breed, Headline is marking his calves with consistency, growth and style. He is taking the powerful females in the breed, red or black, and adding the class to them without taking away the performance. Headline was the sire of the Champion Gelbvieh Female, Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Bull, and Reserve Champion Balancer Bull at the 2008 North American International Livestock Show in Louisville just last month. The Dam’s of these bulls include, VTG Freedom or commonly known as Rolex’s dam, Mustang Sara, Frisby 86M, and Hill and Dale’s power cow 2143. One of these 8 bulls was selected as the 2008 North American International Livestock Show Reserve Grand Champion Bull. Can you tell which one it was? Loads of rib, length, muscle, performance and smoothness packed into each of these bulls. Take a look at the $FM numbers as high as $16.69, or the maternal numbers to include Total Maternal in the high 30’s or better. All of the bulls offer a nice spectrum of EPD’s and Igenity data. All eight bulls are black and polled. Take a look at the Igenity results to evaluate these outstanding individuals, and pick which bull works best for you. Dromgoole’s Heaven invites you to visit our yard pens to view these bulls. If you can’t find one that you want in this group, then you haven’t looked hard enough.

She is the daughter of one of our best CIRS KING females. Fosters daughters are not only easy to look at, but bring the best calves in at weaning – with beautiful teat and udder structure. CIRS 81NT appears to have the same great qualities. Bred to DLGG 30S “Stinger” this fall (since November 1). In the event we can’t confirm pregnancy prior to the sale, we will provide the buyer with 10 units of “Stinger”. Testing for Homozygous Polled – will have results by Sale date.

EGL TIARA T003 ET Tiara is coming to Denver to carry on the legacy of her Champion parents. Her sire Titus was the 2001 Breeders Choice Bull Futurity Champion and her dam Farah was the 2002 National Champion Female. The combination of her dam’s power and mass and her sire’s clean lines and square made structure make Tiara a “sure thing donor prospect”. Tiara’s structure, style and thickness will speak for itself in Denver. She is effortless on the move. She is carrying twin bull calves by the Angus bull HARB Tanker 717JH #15777734 due February 24. Tanker was one of the top proven feed efficiency sires to come out of the Midland Bull Test in 2008.

JWBG PROGRESSThe need for an out cross bull has always been on the top of everyone’s mind. The use of older bloodlines in this mating yielded a unique bull that has muscle, depth, and performance in a truly moderate package that is needed in today’s world of high input costs. Progress is rightfully named for his ability to progressively move the Gelbvieh breed in the right direction. Selling one-half interest and full possession.

KKK TITILLATING 203T ET This gal is destined for greatness! A powerful red female with bone, substance, depth and breadth with momma cow written all over her. She has a perfectly balanced set of EPD’s. Titillating got her name because she was one of the most exciting heifer calves out of Triple K Gelbvieh’s 2007 calf crop. Her dam, BTI Miss Helen sold at the AGA National Sale in Denver for $7,500 in 2004. Triple K and Poker City jointly own her. Her sire, Pegasus was the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity winner in 2004. Titillating caught a lot of attention early winning the junior calf division at the 2007 Kansas State Fair, and again at the 2007 KGA Pick of the Herd Sale. Our niece, Emily, bought her out of the sale for $4,300. Titillating showed her maternal strengths in that she was AI’d 4-21-07 and conceived while undergoing the stress of the show circuit. She is bred to JBOB Carolina Fortune 2564JE for a 2-2-09 calf. She was pasture exposed to XXB King George 918S.

SmartCross® Cattle Their Worth

This past summer Gelbvieh profit partners, inc. harvested several lots of smartCross® feeder cattle. The results

proved that Gelbvieh x British cattle can provide what the industry demands—cattle with performance, efficiency, and a carcass that can have both quality grade and cutability.

The cattle ranged in grade anywhere from 56 to 86 percent Choice, with 56 to 58 percent catching the bulk of the cattle. The highest performing and highest quality grading steers were 75 smartCross® steers from Nebraska that had a whopping 4.15 average Daily Gain (aDG), while also grading 86 percent Choice on the power Genetics Grid. These cattle were 57 percent Yield Grade 1 and 2. These were long fed cattle for the export market and had a finish weight of 1,513 pounds. most appealing about these steers was the $103.30/head profit. the consistency of the smartCross® calves was evident. Not only were they consistent in their ability to grade Choice in the 56 to 57 percent area, they were also consistent in their ability to yield a carcass that returned a premium when compared to their base price. With the exception of one lot, all the other cattle that were marketed on a basis grid returned a premium anywhere from $3.12 to $3.98 per hundredweight (cwt). after comparing these carcass premium results to higher quality grading cattle that only returned a net sales price that was closer to their base price, it became apparent that today’s market will still reward cattle that can at least match the plant average for Choice, but can still provide

a high cutability carcass. these premiums resulted in cattle receiving an extra $42.93 to $49.78 per head premium.

The carcass performance traits of smartCross® feeder cattle in this current market environment should yield additional returns to the cattle feeder. although the past emphasis has been on high quality grading cattle, it’s evident that provided the carcass can at least meet or exceed the plant average for percent Choice then the added cutability of the smartCross® feeder animal should allow for additional financial returns.

SmartCross® cattle that combine Gelbvieh and British-based genetics are the best of both worlds for profitability in the feedyard and on the rail. The demand for cattle that can gain efficiently, grade Choice and have high cutability will put SmartCross feeder calves in demand.

Please take note of this rare opportunity to tap into the genetics of one of the Nation’s most respected females, XXB Miss Drew 221M. Miss Drew was selected the first GAIN Fall Female Festival Futurity Champion in 2002. Her first calf PMG Pegasus rose to Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity Champion in 2005 and has himself impacted the breed greatly. For example, a Pegasus daughter was selected AGJA National Champion Female in 2007 and a Pegasus son, Premonition was the 2008 National Western Reserve Champion Bull. In 2006 another Miss Drew son, PMG Ramsis met with great approval in the Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity and is now serving at Handel Farms in South Dakota. Then in 2007 another Miss Drew son, PMG Sartorious was selected runner up in the Futurity. Miss Drew is a unique Drew daughter with her performance, muscle and abundant milking ability. Her fertility is uncontested with an average of 17 viable embryos collected over four flushes. Great rewards await the bid winner on this offering with potential to produce another breed influencer flushing Miss Drew to a sire of your choice. M&P Gelbvieh willingly offers to share these genetics with you through a flush opportunity granting a guarantee of six viable embryos and a minimum of three resulting pregnancies with replacement of up to three embryos if unsuccessful to meet guarantee. Transfer of embryos must be performed by an AETA certified embryologist. Embryos in excess of 6 may be prorated at buyer’s discretion.

JDPD SONADOR 46S

For those of you that saw that Kurt Russell horse movie a year or two ago you probably know that “Sonador” means dreamer. Well, we never dreamed that a Gelbvieh female could look like our JDPD Sonador 46S. Big bones, huge rib shape, muscle and dimension all wrapped in a flawless package with style to spare. Sonador is one of the coolest fronted and smoothest shouldered Gelbvieh that we have ever seen, much less raised. For those of you that were in Denver last year you might remember her. She was the Reserve National Champion Female, and the Grand Champion Female in the Denver Jr. Show. She was also successful at the 2007 NAILE and other State Fairs. Her biggest claim to fame for us was when she won the Reserve Supreme Champion Female at the San Antonio Livestock Show. She first won the Gelbvieh breed and then went on to defeat 1,932 other heifers for this honor. In doing so, she won over $15,000 in scholarship awards for Ashley Skeels. You could have a piece of this history in your herd. Besides having a great show career, this young female is a great production oriented cow in her own right. Sonador has breed average or better numbers across the board with great spread and improving accuracies. Sonador can be mated numerous different ways, depending on what direction you are taking your herd. She can go Angus, that should add to her smoothness while still keeping performance and muscle. She can go to a purebred Gelbvieh and help keep that pretty front and style. She can do it al!! Sonador has taken her place in the donor pen among our other great females and her dam, Dream of Me. Sonador’s dam, Dream of Me, is a true breeding machine. She is a daughter of Judd’s famed Ms Performer family, and consistently raises great females. Dream of Me is in our donor pen and has an average flush of 17 eggs. Some of you might remember Dream of Me as the Colorado State Fair Calcutta Champion in 2004, but mostly from her statement as a brood cow in our herd. Dream of Me is the dam of the 2007 Grand Champion San Antonio Livestock Show and Denver Division Winner, JDPD Dream Girl. She was also the high selling dam on our 2006 and 2007 sales. We sold a flush to this great dam in our 2007 On-Line Sale to Verner Farms. If you want true cow power, this flush is a way to get it. We think that Sonador will surpass her dam in the donor pen. Headline is fast becoming one of the most popular bulls in the Gelbvieh breed. He is taking the powerful females in the breed, red or black, and adding the class to them. Headline’s heifers and bull calves alike are the most consistent we have ever seen. Loads of rib, length, muscle, performance and smoothness. Headline was the sire of the Champion Gelbvieh Female, Reserve Champion Gelbvieh Bull, and Reserve Champion Balancer Bull at the 2008 North American International Livestock Show in Louisville just last month. So take a look at his offspring, including Sonador, and tell us that he isn’t the real deal. This flush is offered by Ashley Skeels and Dromgooles Heaven. Ashley bought interest in Sonador in our 2007 Female Sale as the high selling lot as an investment for her college fund. Selling flush with a guarantee of 8 embryos and a guarantee of 3 pregnancies. Dromgoole’s Heaven will provide 1 embryo per pregnancy as the guarantee.

Bar Arrow Cattle Company, Phillipsburg, Kan.

Bar arrow Cattle Company has made it a practice to feed out its own cattle

each year to see how their genetics perform in the feedyard and on the rail. Included in the mix are the steers after the top-end bulls have been selected and heifers not kept as replacements. the 2007-born calves fed at Hays Feeders set the bar high for future Bar arrow cattle. the

genetic mix included everything from Balancer to purebred Gelbvieh. when harvested in 2008 by tyson, the 173 head of steers graded 94% Choice or higher with no Yield Grade 4s or 5s.the 117 heifer mates graded 98% Choice. theentire group returned a profit of $99 per head. proof positive that Gelbvieh-influenced genetics can make the grade and still have pounds of saleable beef.

A Gelbvieh Balancer female that has all the right parts to be a great donor cow. She is a very smooth and angular made heifer that is long bodied and naturally deep in her flank. This is a female that travels very well, hitting her track every time. She is an ET daughter out of AHL Hott Damn, who is the most consistent producer in my cow herd and one of the top donors at the Beastrom Ranch. BABR Smoke N’ Hottie follows in her dam’s footsteps, with a great udder development and perfect teat placement. Calving date: February 20th.

BAG Miss Wilma

Flush

DCSF POST ROCK WILMA 147H ET Post Rock Wilma is the Dawson Creek/Post Rock jointly owned donor. She is homozygous polled, dilutor free and a flush mate to the ABS sire Post Rock Top Brass. Wilma is one of the truly great power cows of the breed that has a phenotype that’s simply unmatched. She has been flushed for both Purebred and Balancer progeny with great success having produced a daughter that won her class in Denver to numerous herd bull sons spread out across the country including sons that have been used in both herds. It’s only fitting that at the National Gelbvieh Sale that the buying public has the opportunity to start their own branch of the great Wilma family. The original Wilma cow sold in the National Sale many years ago from Bar Arrow to Rogue River and later to Beartooth Ranch. All of these programs are recognized for their elite genetic contribution to the Gelbvieh breed in part because they took advantage of rare opportunities offered only in the National Gelbvieh Sale. This lot offers you the same opportunity to be a breed leader. Sellers will pay all flushing cost and guarantee 6 transferable embryos resulting in at least 3 pregnancies. All embryos up to 10 are owned by the buyer, any additional embryos may be purchased at prorated cost. Sellers will provide 1 additional embryo per failed pregnancy as the guarantee. Transfer of embryos must be performed be certified embryologist. The Buyer is required to furnish semen to bull of his choice, pay freezing, shipping and transfer of the embryos.

BCFG RAVISHING RUBY 502T1 ET Ravishing Ruby’s accomplishments reads like a who’s who over the past couple of years. But as all good cattlemen know, it really starts with the cow family. The Bruno family at Butler Creek Farm are the most consistent and proven time wise, A.I. after A.I., flush after flush. Ruby’s dam has exceeded all of our expectations with this mating to Cherokee Cnyn 4912 as witnessed by Ravishing Ruby’s phenotype and her overall expression of muscle, bone, and total mass. Just this past year at Louisville, this cow’s family was selected Grand and Reserve Grand Balancer Females with the reserve being a full sib to Ravishing Ruby and another being a class winner. That sure sounds like a can’t miss opportunity for the buyer of the flush. We were very fortunate to have Volek Gelbvieh of South Dakota purchase Ruby as a calf from us in 07 for Brittney to show. The Volek’s know all about good cattle as evidenced by their 07 National Grand Champion Female at Denver. Will guarantee six transferable embryos. All embryos up to 10 are owned by the buyer. If flush produces more than ten embryos buyer will have the option to purchase additional embryos. Sire will be the choice of the buyer. Flush will be completed at the convenience of the seller and at the expense of the buyer.

This is a polled red purebred female that has all of the power and thickness that great producers in the Gelbvieh breed need. Ella is a deep ribbed, long bodied female, that has an exceptional amount of bone; maintains flex in her joints and is especially sound. She is sired by BEA Silverado (decease); a herd bull that has consistently produced powerhouse herd sire prospects (BEA Johnny Walker and BABR Gentleman Jack) and top quality replacement females that just “work” in a cow herd. Calving date: February 20th.
