HARTFORD MARRIOTT, HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT
Welcome to the 41st Annual
2010 Year End Awards Banquet
This completes my second year as President of the CHJA, and I continue to be amazed by the loyalty and dedication ourmembers exhibit. As an organization, we continue to weatherthe current economic conditions well, as demonstrated by one of our biggest CHJA Medal Finals this year. Again, I mustcommend all of our wonderful Committee Members, BoardMembers and other volunteers. Without them we would not be able to provide such a great organization. They are toonumerous to thank individually but most of you know who you are. My grateful thanks to each and every one of you!
Looking toward next year, I hope we can continue to provide a strong and friendly environment for our membership to participate in the sport we all love. The Board continues tostrive to improve and to keep abreast of the changes in ourindustry. As I said last year, we make an effort to provide youwith a quality state organization that you can be proud to be a member of! It is always important to us to hear from youand we encourage you to contact us with any thoughts or suggestions that you may have. As President I know I speak for the entire Board of Directors inwishing you a happy, safe andsuccessful 2011 Show Year!

Meg JohnsonSportsmanship is defined as having the qualities ofdecency, fair play and graciousness in victory ordefeat. Tonight, the definition of sportsmanship isMeg Johnson! Meg’s smile says it all! No matter how a lesson or show goes for her, the smile is everpresent. At shows or at finals, she can be counted on to provide encouragement to everyone. In Meg’sworld the horse always comes first! But this year,Meg added strength and courage to her qualities ofsportsmanship when she publicly endured the lossof her horse at a major horse show. With grace anddignity Meg has continued riding and providingencouragement to everyone around her. Meg is a role model for both Junior and Adult riders, and...

“BRAVE” AWARD
Given by Matt Couzens in honor of “Sherwood Forest”, known as “Brave”.
Presented to a horse or pony who has excelledin competition over many years and with manyriders and who serves as an ambassador of our sport by contributing to its growth througha kind and brave temperament wrapped inexceptional talent.
Velasques“ Blitz”He was known as an equitation superstar. Fromtight rollbacks to a flawless counter canter, he couldeasily double as a hunter. Owned and ridden byBrittany Johnson, all eyes turned to any ring that theteam entered. From local shows to Big Eq Finals,Blitz and Brittany were unstoppable in equitationclasses as well as hunters. After moving into theadult ranks, Blitz and Brittany placed at every final.
When Brittany left for college, Blitz transformed intoa teacher. He used his winning ways to give confi-dence to other riders. He helped one junior qualify forequitation finals and competed at Maclay Regionals.
He showed another young rider just starting outin the equitation world how it was done
while letting her make the mistakes sheneeded to learn. Blitz’s patience and
compassion made him a favorite atIHSA shows with many riders ofvaried abilities. He always behavinglike a champion regardless ofwhat distance he was placed at!
Sadly, Blitz passed away this year, but is tonight’s recipient of the
“Brave Award” as he touched the livesof many young riders by giving them
the confidence they needed to succeedin the show ring!
