Each model year the level of change achieved by the product design team and engineers is amazing.

2011 sees an incredible 6 new frame platforms, a notable highlight being the awesome One-Twenty

Carbon. A super-light trail bike with a frame that weighs just 180g more than our incredible Ninety-

Six race bikes.

Never happy to rest on their laurels, Merida’s design team believe that improvement is always

possible, whether in the form of subtle evolution or quantum leaps such as the brand new Reacto

road bike, unquestionably a work of art.

Based in Stuttgart, the designers enjoy state of the art design and testing facilities that are the envy

of the industry, drawing from nearby motor industry expertise to achieve world leading frames such

as the 0.Nine.

A passion for riding and engineering in equal measure helps drive technically advanced, yet rider

focussed bikes, without equal.

With distributors in over 70 different countries, there is plenty of feedback for the designers to

work with, the result, UK specific models like the 29er, our Single S’Presso and the trail centre

dominating TFS Trail 800D.

Exhaustive product testing carried out in our cutting edge Taiwanese production facility and

German R&D base, ensures our technological supremacy and gives Merida bikes a performance

Multivan Merida Biking TeamWeek after week the Multivan Merida Biking Team achieves success. In the lead up to race day, nothing is left to chance, their preparation is meticulous, their training is extremely intense and their equipment is optimised to the max. The rewards - UCI ranked number 1 team, 2009 and 2010, overall World Cup team winners and Jose Hermida as World Champion. These victories are acknowledgement of the rider’s physical prowess and our technical expertise, but it is the combination of the two factors that deliver truly amazing bikes to you. Ralph Naef is credited as being the founding father of the Ninety Six bike, the lightest and stiffest race full suspension bike in the world. Indeed, Ralph was passionate about the development of his latest race machine he was known to make calls to our R&D chief in the early hours of the morning to feed back geometry and design ideas.

These subtle iterations in geometry or carbon fibre lay-up are tested in the lab and then tested out on the trails and racetracks the world over by our race team. Bikes only make the cut once signed off by our roster of pro riders. Exacting in their equipment needs, Pro racers rely on the edge their Merida engineered bikes deliver them when they test their mettle on the most challenging World Cup circuits and the notoriously brutal Cape Epic stage race. The outstanding comfort of the O.NINE is provided by using a combination of

O.NINeeurope’s fastest carbon hardtail

Right from the day of its introduction, our high-end hardtail O.NINE has caused giant waves of enthusiasm: German periodical BIKE confirmed the fact that ME-RIDA had not rested on the laurels of the successful predecessor CARBON Flx. MountainBIKE magazine applauded the O.NINE’s “surgical trail precision” and noticed the “virtually exploding” sprint performance. What an honour for us to convince the bike press experts in this way! But the O.NINE was not primarily designed for this purpose – it was created to become the racing world’s most successful competition-bike!

During the current season, the pro racers of our MUlTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM have been pursuing this project successfully: In the saddle of the O.NINE, Ralph Naef scored two titles as European Champion (2009 xC, 2010 Marathon) while Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesja won European Gold and Silver (Marathon 2009 & 2010). last but not least, José Hermida has achieved three World Cup victories (2 x 2009, 1 x 2010) and became World xC Champion in 2010 on his O.NINE!

STIFFNeSS PlUS COMFORT aT MINIMal WeIgHTThe O.NINE’s secret is a perfect combination of stiffness and comfort – at mini-mal weight! By means of complex measurement technology, our R & D special-ists divided the “overall bike system” into its functional segments. Their analysis revealed the differences between the individual characteristics. After several months of test runs, measurements and upgrades, a new world-class frame was born – providing extreme stiffness only where the rider induces power. This saved material as well as weight in record dimensions! In addition, comfort is offered in all frame areas which isolate the rider from energy-reducing vibrations. As a result, MERIDA has redefined the formula for racing hardtail success:

MINIMal WeIgHT + OUTSTaNdINg STIFFNeSS + MaxIMUM COMFORT = O.NINe!First and foremost, this is possible thanks to a special material mix consisting of high modulus (HM), ultra-high modulus (UHM) and intermediate (IM) carbon fi-bres – fixed by a nano-reinforced matrix. Depending on individual requirements, the frame segments are connected by TUBE-TO-TUBE technology or internal sleeves.

The most obvious example is the O.NINE’s extremely tapered seat tube: Around the BB section, an outer diameter of more than 40 mm guarantees brutal propul-sion. Meanwhile, the upper end (slim 31.6 mm) receives the customized MERIDA 27.2 mm seat post. In terms of flexibility, this outperforms the previous reference model (FSA K-FORCE SB25) by 15%. With respect to different preferences at the BB, MERIDA offers two options: The direct-integrated BB30 standard with the stiffest crank set represents the lowest possible system weight for frame/BB/crank. On the other hand, a conventional threaded 73 mm BSA bottom bracket reduces the combined weight of frame/BB by 30 g (allowing for the connection of any type of standard crank set).

The drive train’s fantastic stiffness data is also based upon a vertically integrated reinforcement rib dividing the internal down tube into a double chamber (DOU-BlE CHAMBER TECHNOlOGy). In turn, comfort is provided by the rear stay’s extremely low-profiled FlEx STAy seat stays – working like compound springs while equipping the O.NINE with an almost active chassis.

O.NINe – lITeRallY lIgHTWeIgHT Our most lightweight O-NINE frame delights with a stunning frame weight of 930 - 950 g**. But pure frame mass does not automatically result in a lightweight complete bike! Our components only cause a slight increase. For instance the ultra-lightweight MERIDA carbon seat post (191 g) with perfectly matching clamp (10 g). Or the carbon dropouts with post-mount disc brake interfaces (direct mount rotor diameter 160 mm) and the seat tube with integrated direct-mount front-derailleur socket, saving the weight of a derailleur-clamp. The sum total: One of the most lightweight hardtails to ever tackle the world’s race courses!

Now in its third season, our ultra-lightweight NINETy-SIx with its extremely ef-fective 100 mm chassis ranges among the most sought-after xC and Marathon full suspension bikes! In the saddle of this technological marvel, MUlTIVAN MERIDA pro Ralph Naef rides from victory to victory. “lightweight, stiff and ultra-fast – no other bike dominated the race tracks right after introduction as the 96!” – According to the testers of German bike periodical MountainBIKE.

German bike magazine BIKE voted the NINETy-SIx TEAM as “Best in Test” (131.5 points) and honoured our high-end racer as “luxurious racing machine defining state-of-the-art”.

For 2011, the chassis performance of our NINETy-SIx has been improved again: With new front forks, this outstanding machine is clearly aimed at further World Cup victories and “Best in Test” results!

TOP MaTeRIal FOR TOP PeRFORMaNCeAs in the case of our O.NINE, the NINETy-SIx carbon frame incorporates an innovative material mix of high-modulus, ultra-high modulus and intermediate fibres (HM/UHM/IM). Together with manufacturing technologies individually and optimally adapted to different frame sections (TUBE-TO-TUBE or internal sleeves), this results in a STRUCTURE ElEMENT MONOCOQUE with hard-to-beat stiffness and comfort data: On hand, an internal down tube sleeve con-nects the frame parts receiving the highest physical loads around the BB and head tube sections. On the other, the TUBE-TO-TUBE technology is utilized for all frame areas receiving less load – and guarantees the NINTEy-SIx frame’s stellar general weight of just 1.68 kg!*

Additional stiffness and even faster sprint performance! Thanks to the com-bination of BB30 standard (BSA standard optional) and DOUBlE CHAMBER carbon technology! The latter means the top and down tube have a vertically positioned reinforcement rib. This provides improved bending stiffness as well as considerably higher lateral stiffness.

dUal SUSPeNSION OR HaRdTaIl?Our R & D experts integrated a gracefully slender connection bar between the NINETy-SIx seat stays. This element allows maximum reduction of lateral torsion otherwise typical for full suspension rear stays. In addition, the tailor-made DT SWISS rear-shock can be locked out from the NINETy-SIx cockpit – turning this racing full suspension into a speed-hungry hardtail!

120 mm front and rear suspension travel: No other MTB category is more ver-satile. 120 mm, geometries and travel allowing for exhilarating riding on flowing trails whilst able to tackle the steepest ascents without the slightest problem. 120 mm also mean a lot of reserves for challenging downhill runs, root-ridden trails and fast high speed sections. And from My 2011, the carefree MERIDA 120 mm category is also perfectly suitable for Enduro and serious Marathon races!

CaReFRee CHaRaCTeR PlUS RaCINg geNeS = MeRIda ONe-TWeNTY CaRBONIn My 2010, the MERIDA ONE-TWENTy represented one of the first prime exam-ples within the 120 mm category – a complete success! Nevertheless, MERIDA’s Head of Design put our “no-problem” bike onto the test bench again in 2011 with stunning results: Thanks to the already well-proven carbon technologies of our top-of-the-line models O.NINE and NINETy-SIx, the new ONE-TWENTy CAR-BON also incorporates the racing genes of these speed-orientated machines!

The carbon frame with a weight as low as 1840 g (at frame size 18“) – based on the best available carbon fibres and most modern manufacturing technologies of the current market. As a result, this masterpiece is only 160 g heavier than our xC weapon NINETy-SIx! This is enabled by a special material mix of high-modulus, ultra-high modulus and intermediate fibres (HM/UHM/IM) providing amazing stiffness data as well as great weight reduction in less-stressed frame areas. Hard to believe: The maximum stiffness data of our 2011 ONE-TWENTy CARBON is an outstanding 20 % and 10% higher at the head tube and BB areas respectively than our NINETy-SIx (measured by external test institutions accord-ing to “BIKE”-magazine standards). That’s why our ONE-TWENTy CARBON is not only a guarantee for powerful sprints on a genuine racing machine, but also a synonym for extreme steering precision during high-speed downhill runs! Espe-cially at top speed, the rider always feels extremely confident – thanks to our two-piece STRUCTURE ElEMENT MONOCOQUE with a reinforcement rib (DOUBlE CHAMBER TECHNOlOGy) integrated into the down tube.

lUxURIOUS UPgRade: allOY MOdelS alSO WITH CaRBON ROCkeR lINk!In the form of the full-carbon rocker link, our MERIDA R & D experts have realised another technological marvel: Although the ONE-TWENTy rocker link volume is three times higher than in the case of the very compact dimensioned NINETy-SIx carbon version, the weight of this essential functional element is only doubled – at 185 g! The aluminium models of our ONE-TWENTy PRO series also benefit from this “diet”: For us, this high-end rocker link is too important for solely high-end carbon bikes.

„Outstanding“ – the test team of German bike periodical RoadBIKE already raved about our SCUlTURA EVO – a technological masterpiece based on intelligent, evolutionary development. First and foremost, the test experts were enthused by this bike’s outstanding comfort in combination with best possible stiffness. In 2010, the German magazine TOUR even honoured our SCUlTURA as “bike without deficits”. Is there any necessity for improve-ment?

No. But there were two things driving the development of REACTO – One: The acclaimed top performance of our SCUlTURA EVO. Two: The aerody-namics and the cyberspeed appearance of our TIME-WARP. Two premium ingredients in a recipe which has resulted in one of the fastest and most beautiful road machines for 2011.

Our REACTO knows just one direction: Straightforward and into top flight! lead the peloton, bring more velocity to your training group and redefine your fastest finishing times – thanks to our REACTO, no sooner said than done!

HIgHTeCH MaTeRIal IN ITS MOST BeaUTIFUl SHaPeAs in the case of our high-end MTBs O.NINE and NINETy-SIx, the new REACTO’s centrepiece is a STRUCTURE ElEMENT carbon frame with DOU-BlE CHAMBER technology – a.k.a. a vertically integrated reinforcement rib providing improved bending stiffness to the down tube. Depending on in-dividually occurring peak loads, the frame sections are connected either by internal sleeves or via TUBE-TO-TUBE technology. This saves material at less-stressed positions (and therefore weight) while strongly stressed ele-ments like the BB or head tube demonstrate outstanding stiffness. In spite of tubing with aero design and larger diameters, the REACTO frame ranges considerably below 1000 g – a stunning weight for aero frame designs! To-gether with the ultra-lightweight full-carbon fork (only 330 g!), this results in an outstanding frame-set weight clearly ranging below 1.4 kg!

But our aggressive REACTO is not only an extremely fast, but also a very comfortable racing machine – thanks to its special seat post: The completely integrated aero post is fully adjustable as well as flexible. This is possible by utilization of FlAx bio-fibres covered by carbon-layers with “S-FlEx” de-sign. The latter provide perceptible seating comfort via effective absorption of high-frequency vibrations.

CYClO CROSSThe fastest way on off-road terrain

The birth of CC racing can not be identified clearly. However, it is certain that road racers started to compete beyond paved roads at the beginning of the 20th century. Since then, the former winter training of some crazy cyclists on the French Riviera has been emerging as its own sports discipline with its own heroes. From the time these hair-raising off-road competitions began approximately 100 years ago, the CC character has changed a lot: The only slightly modified road bikes of the early days have turned into their own cat-egory full of independent technologies. Good to know that MERIDA takes CC bike development very seriously – as seriously as the heroes of this discipline perform in the saddle!

COMPlex ReQUIReMeNTSModern cross bikes have complex requirements: On one hand, they have to be light enough to provide good climbing even on the steepest ascents – or to allow easy shouldering without wasting precious energy. On the other, cross machines must be rugged enough: In contrast to MTBs, they lack suspension damping hard impacts before the latter reach the frame. A great challenge for frame designers – regardless whether aluminium or carbon are used as base materials. In addition, CC athletes demand stiff bikes for effective trans-formation of pedal power. But at the same time, the rough ride also requires adequate “buffering capacities”. last but not least, the CC-typical “cantilever brake stutter” should be reduced to the max (especially at the front wheel) to maximize a CC bike’s downhill performance.

The MERIDA R & D experts have taken these requirements into account by up-grading and enlarging the CyClO CROSS series for 2011 with stunning results:

CYClO CROSS aT ITS BeSTThe organic top tube shape demonstrates our R & D specialists’ outstanding CC knowledge: A specifically designed tunnel “hides” the rearward cables un-der a removable cover plate – a guarantee for extremely comfortable shoulder-ing. In contrast to real internal routing, the CyClO CROSS cables are always accessible for quick maintenance – a great plus when dust and mud take their continuous toll!

In addition, our CyClO CROSS CF represents a perfect marriage of stiffness and damping qualities. Together with the BB30 bottom bracket, the mighty 1.5” steerer provides brilliant handling precision and powerful propulsion. Thanks to FlEx STAy technology, the seat and chain stays absorb high-frequency sur-face vibrations for effective protection of the rider’s muscular system.

However, the customized full-carbon fork remains the most outstanding fea-ture of our MERIDA CyClO CROSS CF – due to an almost impossible combi-nation of stiffness and flexibility: Along the upper fork section between crown and brake bosses, extreme stiffness eliminates the dreaded “brake stutter” by blocking all flex tendencies. Inversely, the supple fork ends grant perfect steering control and controlled drifting performance.

Even more than other cyclists, triathletes and TT riders strive for the fastest way between the start and finish line. These endurance athletes pursue only one objective: Cycling faster than their competitors while reducing their PB time again and again. Regardless if short or 70.3 distances, if Ironman, Single or Team TT: These bike disciplines represent a no-compromise pursuit of perfor-mance – why should the corresponding equipment be any different?

Juergen Falke – MERIDA’s Head of Design – is an ambitious triathlete himself. Therefore, he is always searching for new ways to go faster. That’s why Juergen developed the TIME WARP: A competition bike incorporating a professional Triathlon model as well as a genuine TT machine. How is this possible? Thanks to the patent-pending MODUlAR HEAD system, the TIME WARP offers indi-vidual adjustment of handlebar height and seating position. This means op-timal adaption to different bike disciplines, varying distances and of course, always with elegant visual appearance!

MISSION: aeRO POSITIONOur MERIDA TIME WARP offers all of the important features required in a Triathlon bike and high-tech TT machine respectively: Deep-section aero-rims and an aerodynamically optimized frame design are essential for all riders. The same applies to ultra-lightweight carbon materials consisting of high modulus (HM), ultra-high modulus (UHM) and intermediate (IM) fibres. But our TIME WARP performs a lot more high-end tasks than conventional representatives of this bike category: Thanks to the intelligent MODUlAR HEAD system, our TIME WARP beats the pants off its competitors in terms of versatility!

With respect to air resistance, the rider is always the biggest interference fac-tor. Therefore, triathletes and TT riders generally try to “tuck” against the headwind as low as possible. However, this extreme aero position can be endured much better over short TT distances in comparison to completing 180 exhausting Ironman kilometres. Conventional solution: The position of the (per se low-mounted) handlebar is raised by spacer towers – not only questionable in terms of visual appearance, but primarily with respect to steering stability due to the long “leverage” affecting head tube stiffness. Especially during downhill sections, this means a real safety risk!

SOlUTION: MOdUlaR HeadThe MODUlAR HEAD represents an intelligent MERIDA solution, not only visually attractive, but also extremely safe: 20 mm and, respectively, 40 mm system attachments allow effective three-step extension (0, +20, +40 mm) of head tube length – without any spacers! The head tube’s upper bearing cup rises in correspondence with the respective extension while the module utilisa-tion enhances head tube stiffness. Therefore, our TIME WARP offers a perfect position for each individual athlete – in any discipline, on any track, at any time!

As well as achieving the desired handlebar position, the seat tube angle can be varied between 75° and 79°. This complements the MODUlAR HEAD in form of a perfectly closed system.

The longer wheel base provides greater handling predictability while the extended head tube also sup-ports general bike stability. In addition, the shorter stem and the more upright seating position give better overview visibility. The narrower handlebar and the specific shifting/brake lever configuration also account for smaller hands. There are also shorter cranks with compact transmission (170 mm, 50/34 teeth) and female-specific saddles with DUAl DENSITy technology.

JUlIeT MTB – MaxIMUM OFF-ROad FUNThe MERIDA 2011 product portfolio also enables female MTB fans to enjoy trails and fire roads: Our JUlIET RECREATION hardtails have adapted geom-etries. Their longer head tubes and stronger-sloping top tubes result in a more upright seating position relieving the pressure-sensitive pubic bone area. In addition, the lower BB position allows problem-free and quick ground contact for female feet!

As a matter of course, all MERIDA ladies’ MTBs feature female-specific con-figurations including narrower handlebars and anatomically adapted saddles – actively supported by smoother-running tyres as well as suspension forks optimally adjustable for lower body weights. The unobtrusive appearance is also part of our philosophy – creating a genuine ladies bike with all stunning and well-proven MERIDA highlights!

JUlIeTladies’ bikes with a big difference

Elaborate tests for your safety: At one of the world’s most modern testing benches, MERIDA Chassis Engineer Holger Krauss observes the computer-supported induction of so-called “real-world load cycles”. This test simu-lates typical cycling situations such as powerful uphill pedalling or sprints. Good to know: The MERIDA safety requirements for mate-rial fatigue considerably outperform all official Euro standards!

Research & development

The bike sector’s development cycles are much shorter than their car industry equivalents. Therefore, our R & D experts carry out their ambitious search for revolutionary and new solutions on an annual basis.

THe SeVeN STePS OF MeRIda BIke deVelOPMeNT

1. “Everything starts with an idea” – the best description for the development history of a MERIDA bike. Our R & D department defines the new bike’s specifi-cation sheet, together with our MUlTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM athletes and distribution experts from 70 different countries monitoring the ever-evolving inter-national bike market. Which performance features are expected by future cus-tomers? Will it be a carbon or aluminium bike – or should there be both versions? Which trends have been discovered by internationally leading bike magazines? During these concept conferences, our R & D experts answer all essential ques-tions concerning the bike’s future performance criteria.

2. In close cooperation, MERIDA Chassis Engineer Holger Krauss and Designer Timo Wurz create the first computer-based concept studies. Simultaneously, our developers are aiming at the best possible approach on a constructional level. This already includes design-related limitations like required tire widths, limits set by suspension travel or disc brake rotor sizes. Thanks to professional tools such as “Igorion” suspension software or Pro-E 3D solid object simulation, possible and impossible geometric solutions can be separated in a highly effective way.

3. Time for fresh air! After to the concept studies, initial prototypes are welded from aluminium. Now, our engineers and MUlTIVAN MERIDA pro riders execute detailed test runs on the most diverse terrain. At this point, weight and con-figuration of these initial prototypes only play a minor role. Therefore, the main focus is on (later decisive) chassis performance and geometry-related steering performance.

4. Everything OK? Then the engineers give way to our designers: Different visual concepts are created while all strict standards (e. g. for maximum acceptable weight, pre-set stiffness data or manufacturing processes) are monitored by the engineering team.

5. Now, the final bike is brought to life in our Taiwanese factory. Taiwan is the world’s most renowned and experienced bike manufacturing nation. As an inter-national brand with Taiwanese manufacturing facilities, MERIDA therefore bene-fits twice from its roots. The Far Eastern frame masters now decide if the chosen design needs a revision due to manufacturing reasons. If not, the necessary tools can be produced. Depending on frame material, manufacturing is managed “in-house” or by a premium partner (e. g. in the case of carbon manufacturing).

6. The, first CNC-machined pre-production models from Taiwan arrive at our German R&D offices in Magstadt (close to Stuttgart). Before the first produc-tion model leaves the MERIDA manufacturing plant, every single frame size is tested according to the official European Test Norm EN14766, where we add an additional “safety margin” to the required standard. Only when preproduction models successfully pass this MERIDA safety check, can they become produc-tion bikes. The in-house MERIDA test bench range includes all of the machines of the renowned TOUR standard. The latter controls head tube and BB stiffness as well as the fork’s comfort and lateral stiffness data. These safety checks are complemented by the strict fatigue tests of external testing partners.

7. The complete test program must be passed successfully. But that’s not all: The recorded data even has to over-exceed the test standards! Only then is Taiwan-ese mass production started – delivering your new MERIDA within a few weeks of production to your local retailer!

Unchanged: The outstanding agile character of our 140 mm mod-el, mastering extensive all day “All mountain” epics like no other. This was confirmed by German magazine BIKE (06/2010) declar-ing our 140 mm model clearly “Best in Test” as the one and only All-Mountain full suspension bike deserving of their “Very Good” seal of approval.

In 2011, our All-Mountain machine inspires riders by combin-ing all the advantages of both cross country and aggressive trail bikes: Thanks to a low frame weight and optimised components, a ONE-FORTY is never too heavy for long hours in the saddle on “All Mountain” terrain – also aided by well-balanced kinematics, which provide a high degree of drive-train neutrality. At the same time, the long-travel suspension is optimally equipped for root and rock littered technical downhill trails. A super-solid wheelset, power-ful brakes with 180mm disc rotors and cable guides to accept a remotely actuated gravity dropper seatpost ensure that your fun is maximised on the descents.

MaTTs Almost no other entry level hardtail offers such high levels of comfort! This series is manufactured from high-quality Racelite 6061 double butted aluminium. Not designed to race: A less aggressive geometry (incl. higher front end and lower BB area) masters daily trips and forest roads with equal ease! O.NiNeNow in its second season, the O.Nine frame continues to rank among the lightest on the planet – a sensationally low 940 g*! However, it is not only the incredibly low frame weight which makes this racing machine the overwhelmingly successful tool of our professional MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM athletes – it is a combination of desirable characteristics: The O.NINE is not only ultra-light, it is also extremely stiff and superbly comfortable!

The high-end carbon fibres’ structural configuration in the O.Nine has been engineered very purposefully thanks to our R&D specialists’ well-proven knowledge. Stiffness appears only where it is really necessary: Around the BB area for maximum power transfer, at the head tube for superior tracking and within the down tube for overall stability. Conversely, our FLEX STAY seat stays provide the O.NINE with energy-saving comfort – ac-tively supported by an extremely butted and tapered seat tube with a seat post offering a vertical “flex” range of an enormous 8 mm! Features which ensure that all essential reserves remain for the next sprint!

Thanks to direct-mount derailleur and dropouts with post-mount disc brake mount, our MATTS SCANDIUM also provides first-class glamour. With all of the advantages of our racing-optimized MATTS TFS models while its character is decidedly more re-laxed: Our TFS TRAIL serves every imaginable purpose – from laid-back city cruising to “flowy” fun descents on root-ridden trails!

The secret of our completely carefree All-Mountain hardtail: Subtle, but always perceptible variations in comparison to its XC brother, the MATTS TFS. The TRAIL version’s shorter top tube incorporates a comparatively steeper slope towards the seat tube. Together with a mighty 120 mm of front suspension travel, this results in a superior balance between playful agil-ity and a relaxed, stable nature. Thanks to powerful 180 mm disc brakes, a broad riser bar and 2.25” tyres for confidence inspiring grip, a TFS TRAIL provides the best possible control in every situation.

Our MATTS TFS TRAIL is an ideal solution for riders favouring “soulful” bikes rather than genuine racing machines. This MERIDA series provides a lot of cycling fun in the form of urban trips, bike park adventures or even downhill runs on tech-nically demanding trails! The secret of this soulful and carefree hardtail: A slightly modified geometry with 120 mm of suspension travel.

The TFS TRAIL is the only member of the MATTS family which does not follow the geometric and constructional genes of our racing rocket O.NINE. Instead, with its higher front end and corresponding head tube angle (69.5°), it makes for a bike with a built-in guarantee for fun.

Due to its 120 mm of suspension travel, broader handlebar, higher volume tyres and 180 mm disc brakes, our MATTS TFS TRAIL is classified as a MERIDA “All-Mountain Hardtail”. Its agile character is amplified by the special top tube – com-paratively shorter and sloping steeply towards the seat tube, providing a more upright riding position with ample standover clearance for any situation you may find yourself in onboard the TFS TRAIL.

Many female cyclists still use bikes primarily constructed for men. But thanks to MERIDA R & D, those uncomfortable days are over: Our ladies’ bikes are designed for maximum female cycling fun on and off the road.

From initial development to market-ready production model, MERIDA ladies’ bikes follow a completely consistent concept. Providing geometries which are anatomically as well as ergo-nomically balanced and using functional components taking into account a female riders generally lower weight. Regard-less if it’s a road or off-road version: All JULIET frames start one level under male sizes at XXS. Therefore, smaller female riders enjoy a safe seating position and comfortable dismount in every situation.

In MY 2011, the MERIDA product portfolio includes three options for ladies favouring slim tires on smooth asphalt. All JULIET bikes come equipped with female-specific compo-nents. Apart from the racing-orientated high-end versions, they generally feature special comfort geometries with taller head tubes for a more upright seating position. All JULIET MTBs also delight with suspension elements allowing optimal adaption to lower body weights.

Geometry Comparison Juliet HiGHer, better, lonGerIn comparison to our racing bikes, the JULIET models feature longer head tubes, a lower BB area and more-sloping top tubes – but why? A higher front end provides the female rider with a better outlook and improved comfort during longer rides. Additionally, the lower BB ensures that there is always the possibility to put feet on the ground as quickly and as safely as possible. Finally, the sloping frame geometry perfectly accommodates the bike-loving ladies with smaller stature – for maximum cycling fun on every ride.

Cyclo-Cross still ranges among the toughest two-wheeled chal-lenges. The corresponding bikes are pure racing machines pur-posefully designed towards speed and durability. The athletes of this off-road discipline ride and carry their bicycles over some of the most rugged terrain – including mud, roots, tree stumps, ultra-extreme ascents and hair-raising downhill sections. In other words: Cyclo-Cross equates to equal measures of sweat and adrenaline!

This year the successful MERIDA cyclo-cross range has been ex-panded with the introduction of a genuine gem: In 2011, cyclo-cross riders with racing ambitions have enjoy the brand-new CY-CLO CROSS 907 – completely UCI-compliant with many unique highlights. One prime example is the full-carbon fork with its brilliant balance between superb tracking stiffness and reduced braking stutter. Another is the carbon frame with its ultra-stiff BB and head tube sections – actively supported by FLEX STAY seat and chain stays for unimaginable comfort. This combined configuration saves a lot of pedal power for final sprints: Vibra-tions and even hard impacts are perceptibly reduced. As soon as the bike is shouldered, it becomes clear that our R & D experts are ardent racers themselves: Thanks to internal top-tube cable routing and low-profile tubing, the bike can be carried as effec-tively as possible – saving important seconds to get you on the winners’ podium!

Road racing represents perfect asphalt winding through heav-enly landscapes, breeze on your face. The combined sounds of chain buzz and smooth running tyres. Cycling moments that could last forever. But not all riders want the position of the bike pros’ with low-positioned handlebar and a stretched-out position.

The solution for this problem: MERIDA ROAD RIDE! These bikes follow the principal concept of a really comfortable road machine offering maximum cycling pleasure. In comparison to our racing-orientated models, the RIDE series includes some perceptible differences.

The main difference is frame geometry: The RIDE front end is slightly higher due to its longer head tube. Besides a more upright seating position, this also means easier accessibility to the brake/shifting levers. Longer chain stays and extended trail result in a generally longer wheel base: While still be-ing extremely agile, the RIDE models provides the rider with increased stability. Equally important: The well thought out combination of slim seat stays, small seat post diameter and 25c tyres provides the essential comfort for long-range tours or rough route sections.

Many cyclists wonder how others manage long hours in the rather uncomfortable seating posi-tion of sporty race bikes. Not without reason: Raised saddle vs handlebar configuration for an optimal aerodynamic position can cause back pain, painful neck tension and wrist stress upon less trained cyclists.

But MERIDA has the opinion that those prob-lems must not limit the fascination of road riding to a small group of well-trained athletes! On the contrary: Our R & D specialists spent a lot of time thinking about how this attractive leisure activity on slim, smoothly running tires can be made accessible for all bike aficionados. The solution: MERIDA ROAD RIDE!

The big difference between pain and pleasure is, first and foremost, this concept’s longer head tube which lifts the cockpit between 3 and 5 cm. This means a more upright seating posi-tion without unattractive and stability-affecting spacers underneath the handlebar. Result: A less-curved cervical spine, less stress on the lumbar spine and improved pressure distribu-tion from the wrists towards the seating area.

But RIDE means even more: The slightly elon-gated wheel base (due to extended chain stays and larger fork tracking) enables smoother han-dling. In addition, the low-profile chain and seat stays are purposefully flexible – another plus for comfort. Relaxed road kilometres are also ca-tered for by features such as a super-slim (and therefore perceptibly flexing) 27.2 mm seat post, an optimised ergo handlebar with shal-lower drop position and comparatively broader 25mm tires absorbing road bumps. Our RIDE models come equipped with a compact double chain ring transmission.

A few years ago, MERIDA introduced the very successful JU-LIET series as female specific off-road bikes. Now there is also a small peloton of road machines perfectly adapted to the female physique. The geometry of these models follow our well-proven RIDE geometry concept providing a more upright and comfortable seating position.

Thanks to individual adjustment options, a ROAD JULIET’s brake/shift levers are always within reach for smaller hands. This series also offers sporty saddles tailored to the female anatomy, as well as shorter stems, narrower handlebars and more user friendly gear ratios.

Only one year after its introduction, our revolutionary Triathlon/TT miracle WARP gets its first important upgrade: From 2011, all components on TIME WARP comply with the official length/width ratio of 3:1 according to the new UCI directives. The MODULAR HEAD system remains as the prominent feature of our “two-in-one” machine – and hence its unbelievable variability!

Thanks to the modular head tube the handlebar position can be varied individually by up to 40 mm. Depending on bike discipline, cycling distance and personal performance level, the system allows changes between the most extreme TT aero positions and postures suitable for long range pedalling. In the course of a season, this height adjustment is made possible without raising the handlebar by using unattractive and unstable spacers. The patent-pending MODULAR HEAD concept allows effective head tube extension via attachable modules, which is not only visually striking, but also without any negative effects on head tube stiffness and corresponding handling charac-teristics. Similar to the handlebar position, the seat tube angle can be varied between 78° and 80°. Therefore, the MERIDA WARP masters all speed orientated and long distance bike disciplines with equal ease – from short Time Trials to Ironman challenges!

For 2011, our WARP range offers three complete bikes (all UCI-compliant) as well as a frameset. All WARP models convince with extremely stiff and ultra-lightweight frames – not to mention many highly effective aero details such as low-profile tubing and a rear brake positioned behind the BB section.

meriDA WArrANty proCessMerida UK provides to the original owner, from the date of purchase the following warranty against materials or manufacturing defects; LIFETIME –All Merida frames are guaranteed to be free from materials or manufacturing defects for the entire ownership of the original owner.TWO YEARS – Rear suspension components and Merida branded rigid forks are guaranteed to the original owner for two years from date of purchase.ONE YEAR – Merida branded components and paint / finish are guaranteed for a period of one year from date of purchase to the original owner. This warranty applies to 2011 and newer Merida bicycles.

The warranty for all other branded original components on Merida bicycles, such as Shimano, SRAM and FSA will be covered by the terms and conditions of the component manufacturer’s warranty. WArrANty CLAims WiLL oNLy Be ACCepteD iF:• The claim is supported by an original proof of purchase• The bicycle has only been used for its intended purpose• Had a first service performed by an authorised Merida dealer within 6 months of purchase• Been fitted with none other than original spare parts and accessories• Had its suspension system serviced by an authorised Merida dealer at least once per year this WArrANty Does Not CoVer:• Normal wear and tear• Damage caused by accidents, neglect or abuse• Improper assembly• Improper follow-up maintenance• Installation of non-original parts or accessories• Modification or alteration of the frame or original components• Labour and transport charges for part replacement or changeover• Direct, incidental, or consequential damages, including without limitation, damages for personal injuries, property damage or economic loss

In the case where a warranty claim has been approved, Merida UK reserves the right to provide an equivalent current model bicycle frame in the available colour.

In a situation where no such bicycle is available, a higher grade model may be offered with a surcharge for the upgrade.Warranty claims made outside of the UK will be subject to the warranty terms and conditions applying to the country where the applica-tion has been lodged.

In most cases digital images of the concern will be required to assist with the process.If a decision can’t be made with this supplied information, the product in question may need to be returned to Merida UK for closer inspection.

meriDA CArBoN CrAsh repLACemeNtEveryone at Merida UK loves to ride their Merida bikes. We understand that when you are pushing your limits, sometimes you push a little too hard - Accidents can happen!

Whilst a premium Merida carbon frame bike is fantastic for providing that extra competitive advantage, the inherent material properties of carbon fibre when subjected to impact can severely compromise the structural integrity of the frame.

For this reason, from the 2011 model year we are offering to the original purchaser of any Merida carbon frame a crash replacement carbon frame at 50% off the normal retail price.

To make use of this service customers who have sustained crash related damage to their carbon framed Merida bicycle must return their damaged frame with original proof of purchase to an authorised Merida dealer for inspection.

If the damage sustained is deemed to have compromised the integrity of the frame, an equivalent crash replacement frame will be offered at 50% less than the normal retail price of the frame. TO INITIATE THE PROCESS THE DEALER SHOULD CONTACT MERIDA UK WITH THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION;• A copy of the original proof of purchase• The bicycle model name, model year, size and serial number• Digital images of the concern

The Merida Carbon Crash Replacement Program offer is subject to stock availability.If the equivalent current model bicycle frame is not available, alternatives will be offered.Standard labour costs will apply to all crash replacement frames built up in store.Contact Merida UK for the latest crash replacement frame availability and prices.
