DAN BURTHEAD COACH • 2ND SEASON

Dan Burt was named head coach of the Duquesne women’s basketball program on April 27, 2013. In just one year’s time, he has had unprecedented success.

InhisfirstseasonontheBluff,Burtguided the Dukes to their sixth straight 20-win season, becoming just one of 21 teams in NCAA Division I that has won 20-or-more games each year since the

2009 season. Additionally, Duquesne played in the postseason for the sixth straight season, capping the year with a 2nd Round appearance in the WNIT.

The team made program history on December 1, 2013 when they playedtheirfirst-evergameoutsidetheUnitedStates.TheDukesand#5 Notre Dame played a neutral site game at Ryerson University in the venue formerly known as Maple Leaf Gardens in downtown Toronto. The contest sold out in a matter of hours.

Burtbecamethefirst1styearheadcoachtowin10Atlantic10Confer-ence games since 2009. The 10 wins tied Duquesne’s second-best total since joining the league in 1983-84. The Dukes also set a single-season team record with seven straight conference victories from Jan. 8 to Feb. 1, 2014. The winning steak culminated with Duquesne receiv-ing three votes in the prestigious USA Today/Coaches Poll.

The end of the A-10 season saw two of Burt’s student-athletes named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference team in Wumi Agunbiade and Raegan Moore.

In his time at Duquesne, seven of Burt’s players have gone on to play professionally overseas: Vanessa Abel - Germany, Wumi Agunbiade - Romania, Jocelyn Floyd - Germany, Alex Gensler - Hungary, Kristi Little - Hungary, Diana Voynova - Bulgaria and Italy.

ATLANTIC 10 CONFERENCEABOUT THE A-10On March 2, 1975, the idea of what is now the Atlantic 10 Conference was conceived. What started as an eight-school,men’sbasketball-onlyaffiliationhasgrownintoa14-university, 21-sport league that is universally hailed as one of the best conferences in the country.

That growth and prominence is a direct result of the ideals and commitments of the member institutions of the Atlan-tic 10 – Davidson, Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, La Salle, of Massachusetts, of Rhode Island, of Richmond, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph’s, Saint Louis and Virginia Commonwealth.

The 14 member institutions of the A-10 are united and strengthened by their diversity. Each is extraordinary in its educational mission, whether of a Catholic faith, a private university or a land grant institution. The varied pursuits of each member prove that there are many threads that weave the fabric for a great conference.
