A.E. Wood Coliseum is one of the most recognizablearchitectural structures in the Clinton community. The“GoldenDome”as it is referred to isoneof50allgoldanodized aluminum buildings in the nation.

Withasquarefootageof48,000,theDomehasacapacityof3,500forbasketballgames,4,000forstageeventsandanarenaincluding532theaterseats.TheDomeisfullyequippedwithdressingrooms,eachfurnishedwithlockersandshowersforMississippiCollegeathleticteams(men’sand women’s basketball, baseball, volleyball, softball,track,men andwomen’s soccer) and visiting teams aswell. The upper deck portion of the Dome includes 11officesuitesforMississippiCollegeathleticstaff.

In 2006, wireless internet access was added to thecoliseum for media convenience as well as visitingadministrators.

In 2005, the Quick Rebounders Room was added atthe end of the court floor.The roomprovides space toaccommodate 150 people.The room is equipped withwireless internet connection, network access and anareatocaterevents.Italsoisusedasafilmroomfortheathletics department.

The facilityalso includesa fullyequipped training roomforMississippiCollegeandvisitingathletes,concessionstands located near the gate entrance, a meeting room forup to90people,andbanquet spaceon theplayingfloor (with bleachers folded) for up to 600 people. TheDomealsohasTVplatformswithexteriorcableaccessandacompletesoundsystemforconcerts.TheplatformsarewiredforinternetaccessinordertostreamvideoofChoctawandLadyChoctawgames.

Mississippi College boasts one of the premier strength facilities inthecountryamongDivisionIIuniversities.TheCharlesandAlineWilliamsStrengthCenterhasmorethan5,000squarefeetofworkingareaandprovidesChoctawathleteswithtopofthelineequipmentnecessarytothesuccessofanathleticsprogram. ThefacilitywasoriginallyfurnishedwithstateoftheartstrengthequipmentmadepossiblebythedonationofMrs.AlineWilliamsinmemoryofherhusbandCharlesH.Williams.In2014,thestrengthcenterunderwentarenovationasnewequipmentwasbrought inthroughout the building. The strength center contains the latest and best equipmentsuchasHammerstrengthequipment,threepowercleanplatforms,rubberized dumbbells for Olympic lifts, three squat racks,cardiovascularequipment,andnumerousothermachinesforusebyallMississippicollegestudentathletes. The strength center is located adjacent to Robinson-Halestadium and provides a deck overlooking the football field forrecruitingvisits.Thefieldcanalsobeseenfrominsidetheweightroomwithwalltowallwindowsonthreesidesofthefacility.

MikeJonesissteppingintohis13thseasonasthefull-timeathleticdirectorafteranincrediblysuccessfulbasketballcareeratMC.

Jonesreturnedtohispositionasthefull-timeathleticdirectorin2008aftersteppingdownasheadcoachofthemen’sbasketballprogramfollowingthe2007-08season.Duringhis20-yearcoachingcareer,includingsixteenseasonsatMC,theHallofFamecoachputtogetheracareerrecordof436-130(.770).

Asathleticdirector,JoneshashelpedbuildoneofthetopathleticdepartmentsintheAmericanSouthwestConference.In12yearsoverseeingtheathleticsdepartment,hehasgivenallofMC’spro-gramsanopportunity forsuccesswith improvedfacilities throughfund-raising.Inthe2009-10season,everyMCathleticsteamquali-fiedforpostseasonplay,andallbuttwoteamshadwinningrecords.

Underhisleadership,theathleticsdepartmentwasabletoraiseoveronemilliondollarsfortheadditionofanartificialplayingsurfacetothefootballfieldandnewsurroundingtrackfacility.Underhiswatch,anewsoccercomplexwasconstructedin2005andanewfieldhousewasconstructedin2011.MajorrenovationswerealsomadetoA.E.WoodColiseumin2008.

CoachJoneshelpedraiseover$160,000attheMCAthleticsDinnerin2012,whereformerAtlantaBravespitcherJohnSmoltzwasthekeynotespeaker.TheAthleticsDinnerhashostedspeakerssuchasGeneStallings,OaklandA’soutfielderSethSmith,RobertKhayat,SylvesterCroom,MikeBianco,andJeffBrantley.

Afterafour-yearhiatus,CoachJonesreturnedtothebenchfortwoseasonsfrom2006-08wherehisChoctawscompileda46-9recordoverallanda35-5conferencemark.Inthe‘06-’07season,JonesledMCtoathirdconsecutiveASCChampionshipandatriptothe“SweetSixteen”oftheNCAADivisionIIITournament.

InhisfirstroundasheadcoachoftheChoctaws,JonesledMCto14consecutivewinningseasonsoverall,includingfivestraightNCAATournamentappearancesathisalmamater.JonesledMCtofourASCchampionshipsin1998,1999,2002,and2007.Inthe2007season,theChoctawsreachedashighasa#3nationalranking.

CoachJonesearnedthreeASCCoachoftheYearhonorsin1998,1999, and 2007, and his players consistently appeared on theAll-ConferenceandAll-Academicteamsattheendoftheseason.Emphasizingdefense,theChoctawsledtheASCinscoringandfieldgoalpercentagedefensein2007.

Mikemade themove toMississippiCollege followinga four-yearstint atCopiah-LincolnCommunityCollegewhere he dominatedthestateandearnednationalprestige.Duringhistenure,Jones’teamswereconsistentlyrankedintheNationalJuniorCollegeAth-leticAssociation’sTop-TwentyPoll.HetookteamstotheNationalJuniorCollegeTournamentwherethe1988teamfinishedseventh.HisteamswereStateJuniorCollegeChampionsin1998andweretwo-timeRegion23Champions.

Forhisaccomplishments,JoneswasnamedRegion23JuniorCol-legeCoachoftheYearin1986an1988.OnOctober16,1996,theCopiah-Lincoln community game Jones the ultimate honor; theyinductedhimintotheir1996SportsHallofFameClass.

Jones’coachingsuccesstooknoonebysurpriseafterhisstellarbackgroundasanassistant.BeforegoingtoCo-Lin,JonesspenteightseasonsasanassistantattheUniversityofSouthernMissis-sippi.

AfterreceivingaBachelorofSciencedegreeinEducationatMissis-sippiCollegein1975,JonesservedasagraduateassistantatMCandwasresponsibleforallscoutingandrecruiting.HelaterreceivedaMasterofEducationinSchoolAdministrationin1977.

MikeisthesonofJuanitaBridgesofNewHebron,MS,andismarriedtoJaneJonesofNewHebron.Theyhavetwochildren,asonMichaelandadaughterMandy.Michaelismarriedtotheirdaughter-in-lawAmy.Mandyismarriedtotheirson-in-lawTaylorSisson.CoachJoneshasfourgrandchildren,Zach,AnsleyKate,WillandCharlotte.

Season OutlookTheMississippiCollegemen’sbasketball teamwillenteranewandfamiliarerathisseasonastheytran-sitionbacktoDivisionIIandtheGulfSouthConfer-ence.Theywerepart of the league from1972-96,winning two championships (1977-78 & 1994-95).MChasspent the last19years(1996-2014) inDi-vision IIIand theAmericanSouthwestConference,winningsixconferencetitlesandnineEastDivisioncrowns.While in transition from Division III to theGSC,theChoctawswillnotbeeligibleforpostsea-sonplayuntilthe2016-17season,buttheavailabilityofathleticscholarshipswillallowMCtocompeteim-mediatelywiththetopteamsintheleague.

Ontheoutside,theChoctawsreturnoneofthetopthree-pointshooters inschoolhistory inseniorJAYCASE.TheBrookhavennativeranks4thintheMCrecordbooksin3-pointfieldgoalpercentage(.466)and 8thwith 61made long balls last season.TheCopiah-Lincoln CC transfer just got better as theseasonprogressed,makingatleastfourfrombehindthearcinsixofthelast12gamesoftheyear.

Also returning with starting experience is seniorJARON EDWARDS. The Franklinton, La. nativeopened last season as the starting point guard, but settledinmoreatthewinastheseasonwentalong.Heshot39%fromthethree-pointlineandtallied40assistsontheyear.TheWilliamCareytransfergivesMCanothersteadyoptiononthewing.

WhileCaseandEdwardsareknownfortheiroutsideshooting,theChoctawsalsoreturnatrueslasherinsenior EMMANUELEZEJIOFO.TheformerHillcreststandout is the team’s leading returning scorer at13.9pointspergame,alsopullingdown5.1boardspercontestwith58assists.“EZ”,asheisknownontheteam,isjustaboutunstoppablewhenhegetshisoutside shot to fall.

Outsideofthereturningguards,thecoachingstaffisexcitedabout juniorJOHNNYRUCKER and fresh-man DAVIDFISHERbeingaddedtothemix.Ruckeris a transfer fromMississippi DeltaCC and has agoodmixofoutsideshotandtheabilitytocuttothebasket.FishercomestoMCfromRome,Ga.wherehewasastandoutplayeratModelHS.

JuniorTORYRICEisexpectedtomakeinimmedi-ate impact in the starting lineup after a stellar career atItawambaCC.TheStarkvillenativeaveraged10points and eight rebounds per game while beingnamed to the MACJC Academic All-State Team.Ricehasanuncannyability toget to thebasket toscoreandreboundwiththebestintheleague.

Junior CHRISTIAN ROBBINS and GIANCARLOSANTIAGO are also transfers that the Choctawshopewill contributeon the lowblockquickly.Rob-bins is a 6’10” player from Southwest MississippiCC,whoisknownforhisabilitytoblockandchangeshotsatthebasket.Santiagopossessesagreatlow-postgameandsofttouchontheblock.

TheChoctawslandedoneoftheirtoprecruitingtar-gets in the spring in freshman STACEYMACK.TheMcCombHSstandouthelpedleadtheTigerstoa5AstatechampionshipandwasnamedaSecondTeamAll-State selection after averaging 13.8 points, 9.2reboundsand2.8blockedshotspergame.Mackisarawtalentthatwillonlygetbetterashedevelops.

MC’s firstGulf SouthConference game comes onDecember 4thwhen they hostWestAlabama, fol-lowedbyahomegameagainstWestGeorgia.ThefirsttworoadconferencecontestswillcomeagainstUnionandChristianBrothersthefollowingweekend.

Afteralternatinghomeandroadgamesoverthenextthree weeks, the Choctaws will renew their rivalrywithDeltaStateonJanuary17thinClinton.TheywilltraveluptoClevelandforthereturntriptoclosetheseasononFebruary26th.

HeadcoachDonLof-ton enters his 11th season at the helm and 31st with theprogram,overall.

TheChoctawswentthroughtheirfinalseasonintheAmericanSouthwestConferenceandDivisionIIIduringthe2013-14year,going11-14andfinishing8thintheleaguestandings.Senior Lakin Ford and junior Emmanuel EzejiofoearnedAll-ASChonors.

The2012-13seasonsawtheChoctawsadvancetotheASCTournamentforthe15thtimein15triesandastheyearnedthe#3seedfromtheEastDivisionwitha15-11record,overall.JuniorBrandonBlakewasnamedaD3hoops.comAll-SouthRegionselec-tion,whilealsoearningaspotontheAll-ASCTeam.SeniorAdamSmithwasaSecondTeamselection,whileTurmonteRagland earned anAll-DefensiveTeamselection.

TheChoctawsadvancedtotheASCTournamentinthe2010-11and2011-12seasons,makingthemtheonlyteamintheleaguetoqualifyforeverytourna-ment.In2011-12,MClandedTrevonMaloneontheAll-ASCFirstTeam.

Inthe2009-10season,LoftonledtheChoctawstotheir22ndconsecutivewinningseasonandatriptotheAmericanSouthwestConferenceTournament.MCfinished19-7overalland14-6intheASC,whilefinishingsecondontheEastDivision.

Inthe2008-09season,theChoctawsadvancedallthewaytotheASCChampionshipGamebeforebeingoustedbyTexas-Dallas.Itwouldbethe10thtimein11tournamentsthattheChoctawsadvancedtothechampionshipgame.MCledtheleaguewitha.509fieldgoalpercentage.

LoftonhadanincrediblysuccessfulrunasheadcoachoftheChoctawsforfouryearsfrom2003-2006.Infourseasonsatthehelm,Loftonproduceda92-23overall record including twoAmericanSouthwestConferenceChampionships and back-to-back ap-pearancesinthe“SweetSixteen”roundoftheNCAATournament.

Inthe2005-06heledtheChoctawstoaschoolrecord29-2seasonthatendedwithanotherappearanceinthe “SweetSixteen”. Lofton collectedNCAAwinsoverMaryvilleUniversity andMaryvilleCollegeasaregionalhostofthefirstandsecondroundoftheNCAATournament.TheChoctawswerethehighestrankedteamintheNCAASouthRegionrankingstheentire season.

Inthe2004-05LoftonledtheChoctawstothethirdmostwinsinschoolhistory(24)andjusttheirsecondappearanceintheNCAATournament“SweetSixteen”

round.TheChoctawswere ranked#1 in theNCAASouthRegionrankingeveryweekandwon their seventhASCEastDivision title ineightyears.TheyalsobeatMaryvilleCollegeinthesecondroundoftheNCAAtournament.

AftertakingovertheprogramfromHallofFamecoachMikeJones,LoftonmaintainedthesamelevelofsuccesswithfourstraightappearancesintheASCChampionshipgame.ThatsameseasonLoftonkept thestreakaliveby lead-ingtheteamtoeightstraightwinstoendtheseason and reach the title game. His team also led the ASC in scoring defense.

In2002-03,Lofton’soriginalseasonasHeadCoach,heledtheChoctawstotheirfourthASCChampionshipinsixyears.MCwon20gamesandappearedintheNCAADivisionIIINationalTournamentforthesixthstraightyear.

Loftonwas also a vital part of the successachievedbythebasketballprogramduringhistenure at MC as an assistant coach. As the recruitingcoordinator,hewasresponsibleformaintainingthetalentlevelnecessarytokeeptheChoctawsintheupperechelonofteamsinthecountryyearinandyearout.HealsofilledthepositionastheprimaryassistanttoformerheadcoachMikeJonesandwasvitallyinvolvedinbuildingtheprogramtowhereitistoday.

“Coach Lofton has been around Mississippi Collegebasketballforalongtime,”saidAthleticDirectorMikeJones.“Heknowsthegameandhasbeenabigpartofthesuccessthatwehaveenjoyedandexperiencedoverthepastyears.HeknowswhatittakestobesuccessfulhereatMCandhasproventhatduringhis10seasons.”

Lofton built himself the reputation of being a toprecruiterandtalentevaluator.SinceMC’smove toDivision III in the 1996-97 season,he has helped recruit some of the best talent intheAmericanSouthwestConference.Withhimfillingtheroleofrecruitingcoordinator,theChoctawsmadefivestraightappearances intheNCAAtournament.TheyalsowontheASCChampionshipthreefiveoffiveseasons.Dur-ing his last three seasons as an assistant, the ChoctawshadfivefirstteamAll-ASCselectionsandoneASCEastDivisionPlayeroftheYear.

Lofton began his coaching career at Mis-sissippi College as a graduate assistant in 1978-79,workingforCoachDougHines.Healso served in the samecapacity during the1979-80 season.Before returningasanas-sistant, Lofton coachedatWest JonesHighSchool in Laurel, Miss., for four seasons. He beganasanassistantcoachandwastheheadcoachforthreeseasons,1982-85.HeledtheMustangstoseveraloutstandingseasonsandwasnamedCoachoftheYearintheSouthernAthleticConferencein1982-83.

Loftonwashonoredafterthe1998-99seasonby the NationalAssociation of BasketballCoaches forhisoutstandingservicewith theMeritAward.

A1974graduateofBrookhavenHighSchool,he began his college career at Mississippi College,playingfootballandgolf.Hereceivedhis bachelor of science degree in business administration in 1978 and completed themasterofeducationdegreein1983.DonandhiswifeMadelynhavethreechildren:Davis,Jayand Elizabeth.

In thesummerof1970,sixcollegepresidentsmet todiscussaboutath-letics;when themeetingended,anew leagueemerged—theMid-SouthConference—startedby,andtothisdayrunby,theCEOs,thefirstinNCAAhistory. It is that CEO-control and involvement that makes the leagueworkandits14championships(football;men’s&women’scrosscountry,men’s&women’ssoccer;volleyball,men’s&women’sbasketball,men’s&women’stennis,men’s&women’sgolf,softballandbaseball)sointenselycontested--inacollegialmanner,ofcourse.

Fromthatpointforward,theGSChasbeengiantstepsaheadoftheD-IIpack.Beginning in1997, the league foundneutral sitespayingsizeableguaranteesformostofitsteamchampionships.NCAAConventionsregu-larlyfeatureGSC-proposedor-inspiredlegislation.Noonewinsmorere-gionalsorearnsmoreNCAApost-seasonbids. In2004, the leaguepur-chased its own built-to-its-specification office space. But the crowningmoment came in 2005-06,when theGSCdebuted its highly successful“GSC-TVLive”packagewhichincludedninefootballgames(now11)anditsmen’s&women’sbasketballtournamentfinals.Addtothatthebranded“GSCDigiNet”videoplatformandthelive-streamingofmostofitscham-pionships,andyoucanseewhytheGSCisaConferencepavingthewayinthe21stcentury!

We takepride inour48NationalTeamChampionships in13sportsandmorethan100regionaltitles,especiallybecausethereisnosacrificeontheacademicside,whereGSCstudent-athletesregularlyearnAcademicAll-America. TheGSCopened the2012-13yearwithNCAAChampion-ships,thankstoWestFlorida’sfirst-everNCAAWomen’sSoccerTitleandValdostaState’sthirdall-timeFootballCrown.

GULF SOUTH CONFERENCEofSoutheastLouisiana(SELA)andNicholsStateincreasedthemember-ship to eight. The league opened an office inHammond, LA, changedits name to the Gulf South Conference and began championships in nine men’s sports. Mississippi College and Northwestern Louisiana (NWLA,nowNorthwesternState)joinedin1972andtwoyearslater,NELAleftforDivisionI,followedbySELAandNichollsStatein1979.

Theconferencecontinuedwithseven teamsuntil1981,when theCEOsadmittedValdostaStateandWestGeorgia(1983). In1991,Tennessee-MartinandTroyStatewentDivision I, brieflydropping theGSCback tosevenmembers. An aggressive expansion under the guidance of newCommissionerNateSalant resulted in10newmembers:LincolnMemo-rial(1992-93);AlabamaHuntsville,HendersonState,CentralArkansasandMississippiUniversityforWomen(1993-94);WestFlorida(1994-95);andArkansas-Monticello,ArkansasTech,MontevalloandSouthernArkansas(1995-96).JacksonvilleStatemovedtoDivisionIattheendof1992-93.MississippiCollegedroppedtoDivisionIIIattheendof1995-96,andwasreplacedbyChristianBrotherstokeeptheConferenceat16schools.InJuly 2000, theGSCwelcomedHardingUniversity andOuachita BaptistUniversity,makingitthelargestNCAA-playingconferenceatanylevelwith18schools.MUWdroppeditsathleticsprogramattheendofthe2002-03season,decreasingthemembershipto17.CentralArkansasreclassifiedtoDivisionIandLincolnMemorialmovedtotheSouthAtlanticConferencefollowingthe2006-07year.Montevallo’sdepartureforthePeachBeltCon-ferencedroppedthenumberto14.

TheGSCmovedawayfromdivisionalplayafterthe2010-11seasonafteritssixArkansasmembersbrokeaway,droppingthemembershiptoeight.Thankstoanaggressiveexpansionplan,theGSCsponsoredtheDivisionIIapplicationsofUnionUniversity(TN)andShorterUniversity(GA),whichwereacceptedintotheNCAAprocessinJuly2011,andareexpectedtobecomeofficialmembersfor2014-15.Thenextstepinbolsteringitsmem-bershipcamein2012,backingtheDivisionIIapplicationofLeeUniversity(TN)whichwasacceptedbytheNCAAinJulyof2012.Theleagueaddeditsfirst-everassociatemember,FloridaTech,infootballonlyin2013.TheConferenceaddedanold friendback into the foldwhenMississippiCol-lege’sapplicationtorejoinDivisionIIwasapprovedinSeptemberof2013.
