evolves. At the Oklahoma City University

School of Theatre we strive to involve our

students in the industry in a wide range of

opportunities. Therefore, it is our pleasure to

located throughout Oklahoma City.

Lyric Theatre of Oklahomais the state’s leading professional theatre company. For 50 years, Lyric has produced classic and

contemporary musicals and plays featuring both nationally known Broadway stars and local

favorites. Lyric produces four smaller works in the Plaza Theatre during the spring, fall, and winter,

as well as four large scale, fully orchestrated musicals at the Civic Center Music Hall each summer.

Lyric operates under an URTA contract with Actors’ Equity Association and employs members of

the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and United Scenic Artists.

Oklahoma Children’s Theatre (OCT)is the professional children’s theatre company for the state of Oklahoma, and is in residence on

the Oklahoma City University campus. OCT provides extraordinary live theatre and interactive

educational experiences for young audiences. OCT offers a number of productions and

educational programs for young audiences throughout the year, a statewide touring production,

a youth theatre program, an arts collaboration program with local daycare centers, as well as

educational classes and camps held during the summer at Oklahoma City University.

Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre (CityRep)provides a vital service to the community

by presenting arts programming that is

reflected in major metropolitan areas

around the country. Under the leadership

of an Oklahoma City University School of

Theatre alumnus, Artistic Director Donald

Jordan, CityRep produces four productions

each year at the Civic Center Music Hall in

downtown Oklahoma City. For Oklahoma

professional theatre artists of the past,

present, and future, CityRep provides a

professional local venue and artistic home.

Actors’ Equity Association, the Union of

Professional Actors and Stage Managers in

A huge hit straight from Broadway, Peter and the Starcatcher is a wildly theatrical, hilarious, and innovative retelling of how a miserable orphan came to be The Boy Who Never Grew Up. A 13-year-old Molly Aster, a Starcatcher Apprentice, finds herself in the company of pirates, a giant crocodile, and angry mollusks as she and three orphan boys (one of whom happens to be unnamed) attempt to return a trunk of precious starstuff to her father. Adventures abound as a mustached pirate captain and his sidekick, Smee, pursue them. Along the way, Molly learns what it means to grow up, and is reunited with her father. The nameless orphan and his friends take up residence on this island where dreams are born and time is never planned—the island where that nameless orphan is christened Peter Pan.

What motivates a scientist? One key factor is the pressure from the competition to be the first to discover something new. The moral consequences of this are the subject of the play Oxygen, dealing with the discovery of this all-important element. The focus of the play is on chemical and political revolutions, as well as the Nobel Prize, which will be awarded for the 100th time in 2001. The action takes place in 1777 and 2001; the play is written for 3 actors and 3 actresses who play a total of 11 characters.

TheatreOCU is excited to bring in three solo performance artists, highlighting the best and the most exciting work that’s being done in this genre for both our students and our wider audience. Movement faculty member Luke Eddy brings humor and horror to Conner McPherson’s Irish ghost/vampire story St. Nicholas. Lisa Dalton, fresh from touring her show on the Fringe Festival circuit, brings poignancy and a challenging philosophical bent to Anton Checkov’s The Darling. And the incredibly talented Doug Tompos brings the playwright Tennessee Williams to life in his acclaimed Bent to the Flame: A Night in the Life of Tennessee Williams.

In this classic and revered American comedy, famous writer Sheridan Whiteside, having dined at the home of the Stanleys, slips on ice on their doorstep, breaking his hip. A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follow. The Stanley living room is monopolized by the irascible invalid; ex-convicts are invited to meals; and transatlantic calls bring a $784 phone bill. It would take a stoical housewife to harbor penguins in her library, an octopus in her cellar, and 10,000 cockroaches in her kitchen. When Maggie, Whiteside’s secretary, falls in love with a local reporter, Bert Jefferson, Whiteside pulls out all the stops to thwart the relationship and keep his secretary by his side. A holiday hit for the whole family!

A Staged Reading at the School of Law

The Last Days of Judas Iscariot tells the story of a court case over the ultimate fate of Judas Iscariot. Set in a time-bending, darkly comic world between heaven and hell, the play reexamines the plight and fate of the New Testament’s most infamous and unexplained sinner. A fierce and questing story that refuses to settle for glib answers, and which identifies with life’s losers and gives them an eloquence by finding poetry in lowdown street talk. The play uses flashbacks to an imagined childhood, and lawyers who call for the testimonies of such witnesses as Mother Teresa, Caiaphas, Saint Monica, Sigmund Freud, and Satan. This staged reading is rated for mature audiences.

As You Like It is considered by many to be one of Shakespeare’s greatest comedies. The heroine, Rosalind, is praised as one of his most inspiring characters and has more lines than any of Shakespeare’s female characters. Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando the disinherited son of one of the duke’s friends. When she is banished from the court by her usurping uncle, Duke Frederick, Rosalind switches genders and as Ganymede travels with her loyal cousin Celia and the jester Touchstone to the Forest of Arden, where her father and his friends live in exile. Observations on life and love follow (including love, aging, the natural world, and death), friends are made, and families are reunited.
