2 2015 Leadership Tampa Alumni Annual Review

My Fellow Leadership Tampa Alumni,

I would like to offer you my sincerest thanks for the incredible opportunity afforded to me this past year. I feel most fortunate to have served as your Chair and I look forward to supporting the growth of our organization of Leaders in Action for years to come. We hope you enjoy reflecting back on all of our accomplishments as we introduce you to LTA’s new digital Annual Report. Our Annual Report committee has done a brilliant job capturing all that made us great in 2015.

I am so grateful for the support and dedication of our committee leaders and volunteers, as well as our ten Annual Sponsors who made this year of change and restructure a huge success while building a strong foundation ready to support and strengthen our growth and our impact on our great community.

We introduced many new value added components to assist in enriching your experience as a member, and we hope you took every opportunity to engage in them. Chair’s Choice month kicked off the New Year by bringing you a dynamic leadership program, while our LT”AM” initiative jump started your mornings and brought you yet another opportunity to connect with your friends. This year we created member exclusive events and a fresh way to acknowledge and celebrate our newest graduates at our LTA sponsored cocktail party. Our new quarterly outreach project structure strongly supported our Action for Education platform and proved to be highly effective by truly assisting us in accomplishing our community goals. It has been a pleasure being part of our many successes, and I look forward to watching these programs mature and grow.

My appreciation for this organization is personal. My dedication to LTA’s success stems from the fact that Leadership Tampa helped me acknowledge and develop a side of me that I was unaware existed. Every member I have met has had a unique reason or experience that they found equally valuable. It is your privilege and duty as a member of this incredible organization to get involved in helping nurture our growth and stability and I look forward to your continued dedication and participation in the upcoming year.

LTA has proven once again to be a stellar Chamber leadership committee and I am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to make a difference. I look forward to continuing to get to know our membership and I wish all of you success and happiness in the New Year.

Best,

Misha

2015 LTA Annual ReviewPresident’s Letter

Thank you for your continued support of the Leadership Tampa Alumni program. As graduates of the third-oldest leadership program in the country, LTA has a long roster of outstanding members and a long-standing commitment to impacting our community.

As a committee of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, LTA is integral to our mission “to serve our members and enhance our community by building business success.” Strong leadership is the key to a strong and vibrant community, and Leadership Tampa - and by extension LTA - is an important vehicle to develop that leadership.

We are pleased to see your continued partnership with Emerge members. Our “leadership journey” is not only an important part of the Chamber’s work but a valuable contribution to attracting and maintaining talent in our region – and that talent includes not just our young professionals, but veterans, entrepreneurs and those who have relocated to Tampa Bay. Your support of our young professionals, your commitment to ensuring Leadership Tampa selects quality, diverse candidates by providing scholarships and your support as a presenting sponsor of Emerge’s annual meeting, Emerging with Influence, is a true testament to your leadership.

You are the reason for LTA’s success, and your continued involvement will ensure the growth and impact of the program. Thank you for your membership and your commitment to our community. Sincerely,

Bob Rohrlack, CCEPresident and CEO, Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce

Supporting Innovative Leadership

6 2015 Leadership Tampa Alumni Annual Review

The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce continues to steer Tampa’s future growth through a leadership journey that provides professional development and community research initiatives.

MentoringEmerge Tampa Bay is a leadership program designed to support, cultivate and attract emerging leaders from ages 21 to 35. In an effort to enhance the greater Tampa area, Emerge Tampa Bay provides unequaled access to business resources, educational opportunities and community partnerships.

The Protégé Program, a signature segment of Emerge, develops long-term mutually beneficial relationships between experienced business leaders and motivated emerging professionals. In 2015, we connected one of our largest Protégé classes to date with senior-level executives, providing both personal and professional development opportunities. 70% of the Emerge mentors are Leadership Tampa Alumni members.

KnowledgeEstablished by the Chamber in 1970, Leadership Tampa is the third-oldest leadership program in the nation and strives to identify and develop future leaders in Tampa and Hillsborough County. Members of Leadership Tampa are business professionals who hold upper-level leadership roles in their organizations. In addition, they have demonstrated concern for community issues and have been active volunteers in service organizations. Each Leadership Tampa program brings in top-level business, civic and government leaders for panel discussions and question-and-answer sessions. Topics covered include healthcare, education, law enforcement, the environment, economic development, government and other important community issues.

InvolvementLeadership Tampa Alumni is a standing committee of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce. It serves to support graduates from Leadership Tampa and extends the involvement of those individuals in civic education, social interaction, and current events and issues facing the Tampa Bay community. This organization is close to 600 members strong and includes graduates from almost every Leadership Tampa Class since 1971.

PREP FOR SUCCESS

In 2015, LTA focused much of its community outreach efforts on the initiative set forth by Chair Misha Hart: education. The Community Outreach committee arranged a different service project each quarter designed to put LTA members’ experience and passion to work supporting education programs from pre-school through adult ages.

Partnering with Suncoast GoodWill, LTA Volunteers stepped into HeadStart Center Pre-K classrooms throughout Hillsborough County and took turns reading books to the children and providing each child with a personalized book of their own to take home.

Working with the Boys and Girls Club of Tampa Bay and the Liberty Momoierre Teen Center, LTA provided students from Robinson High School with interview-appropriate clothing, including shirts, pants, skirts and shoes. LTA Volunteers coached students on resume preparation, completing job applications and held mock interviews. Students also learned about proper attire, business conduct and speech. Students will use these essential skills as they prepare to find employment in the near future.

MARCHSPRINGFLING

Superheroes and business leaders collided at the festive 2015 Annual Meeting. One of our biggest events of the year offered attendees a chance to network, donate books, get inspired by some of the most amazing leaders in the community and indulge their inner superhero!

When one of our community’s most legendary restaurateurs and businessmen take the time to give LTA members lessons on leadership, it’s a sold-out event. Chris Sullivan, founder of Outback restaurants delivered a wonderful presentation on leading through challenges. He’s so passionate about leadership; he gifted every attendee a copy of his favorite leadership book, “the One-Day Contract” by Rick Pitino:

LTA members hit the Sail Pavilion to share their Leadership Tampa experience with potential future members.

Parke Wright III was a visionary man who cared deeply about Tampa Bay. In 1970, as the Chamber’s Executive Committee took a boat tour to review the City of Tampa’s sewage discharge point, he realized that the group was lacking the next generation of Tampa leadership. Parke then committed himself to develop a program for tomorrow’s leaders. Within months, Leadership Tampa was born.

The Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Tampa program is the third-oldest leadership program in the nation. A prestigious program, Leadership Tampa has served as a model for other cities around the country.

To honor the man whose vision continues to shape the Tampa Bay community, the prestigious Parke Wright III Award is presented annually to a member of Leadership Tampa Alumni who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and made a significant difference in the Tampa Bay community. The recipient must have demonstrated leadership in any form of community service that benefited the greater Tampa community as well as the following attributes:
