A Toast To You

I raise my wine glass to say thank you for supporting the 25th year of Vintage Albuquerque. Because of you and the generosity of countless others, we’ve raised more than $3 million to support Children’s Arts Education programs in New Mexico. This year our beneficiaries are:

• Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program• Art in the School• NDI-New Mexico• New Mexico Jazz Workshop• New Mexico Philharmonic

In our 25th year, we hope to raise more money than ever. To do so, we’ve expanded and made Vintage Albuquerque a five-day event, with the addition of a wine seminar and Sunday brunch. I hope you attend all our events, enjoying unbelievable wine and New Mexico delectables.

This year’s event features Chuck Wagner of Caymus Vineyards. We will have tast-ings of hundreds of wines from around the world, food from Albuquerque’s best chefs and art donated by our fabulous New Mexico artist community.

Our featured artists, the Father/Daughter team of Randy Cooper and Carol K. Cooper, have donated a magnificent 30-inch wire mesh sculpture called Butterfly and Lotus to be auctioned at the Live Auction Dinner.

Thank you again for all you do, and continue to do, to make our city great.

Raise your glass to you!

Chuck Wagner has spent his life in the vineyards of Rutherford, near the center of Napa Valley, steering his family’s business from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Through the years, he has lived through many changes and has been recognized for his winemaking and industry leadership – but he still holds onto a deep humility as well as appreciation for great wine, family and the connections between the two.

Chuck was just 19 when he joined his parents in 1972 to create Caymus Vineyards, taking them up on their proposal to sell the home wines they had been making from grapes they grown on their property. He and his father, Charlie, worked long days side by side, managing every part of the business. His mother, Lorna, took on many jobs including work on the bottling line.

One of the family’s most exciting moments came in 1989, when Wine Spectator awarded them “Wine of the Year” for their 1984 Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon. Five years later, the magazine conferred the award again for their 1990 vintage, the only wine in the world to receive this honor twice.

For Chuck, an even greater reward has come as his children have joined the business. Caymus is now part of the Wagner Family of Wine, which includes chardonnay, pinot noir, sauvignon blanc and merlot made by Charlie, Joey and Jenny, three of Chuck’s four children.

Along with the rest of the family, Chuck can still be found in the vineyard and contin-ues to experiment with farming techniques and other aspects of winemaking. He was honored in 2007 to be recognized with Wine Spectator’s Distinguished Service Award, presented to individuals who have made significant and long-lasting contributions to the wine industry. Yet despite his business success, Chuck remains largely a farmer at heart. He still believes that at the end of the day, wine is meant to be shared with family and friends. And he marvels at his good fortune to be living in Napa and working in the wine business.

Every year we reaffirm how fortunate we are to have such a great collection of independently owned, local restaurants that make it so much better to live in, work in and visit our growing city. In the last decade or two, the wine and food scene has continued to evolve by establishing favorites that never just rest on their laurels, but continue instead to dazzle and inspire. We’ve seen some new names grace our culinary landscape as well, from noted Santa Fe restauranteurs who have witnessed the growth and maturation of our ever-expanding dining community to our city’s own restaurant owner elite who can’t stop trying new (and some old) things. Lastly, it’s amazing what this fabulous group of restauranteurs, chefs and sommeliers have done to elevate the wine lists and offerings, providing new opportunities for discovery and enhancing the complete dining experience. Vintage Albuquerque thanks all of our particpants for their generosity, continued friendship and support of our arts education beneficiaries, and we ask you to show your support by visting them often.

The arts in New Mexico public schools have been severely reduced and, in some cases, eliminated. This is of great concern because it is crucial to expose children to creativity, expression, imagination and original thinking at an early age. New Mexico is blessed with a culture of creativity that not only is a major legacy, but will allow us to thrive for generations to come. All funds raised through Vintage Albuquerque support arts, music, dance, theater and other artistic education programs.

ALBUqUERqUE yOUTH SyMPHOny PROGRAMThe Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program (AYSP) seeks to instill a lifelong passion for music in motivated young people in the Albuquerque area through the pursuit of excellence in orchestral music performance. Students in our program participate in eight ensembles that include five full symphony orchestras, two string orchestras, and a band. This past season, over 540 students from 60 different schools in grades 4-12 participated in AYSP. Music education is critical for the success of our students and the community -- it not only nurtures the spirit, but it also impacts key parts of the brain and helps students develop critical life skills that allow them to become dedicated and creative employees in the future. Together, we’re building the next generation of professional musicians, arts patrons, and creative community leaders in New Mexico..

ART In THE SCHOOLArt in the School is a 501(c)(3) with a mission to open the doors to learning through the visual arts. Art in the School served nearly 5,000 children this school year in our three programs: Our Volunteer Program trains parents, grandparents and friends at four comprehensive workshops where they learn how to teach art lessons in their chil-dren’s classrooms. Our After School Art Program at Title I Schools was developed in consultation with uNM’s Art Education Program faculty and is provided at no charge to the students or the schools where they are held. uNM art education students and other qualified teachers teach the program. We have developed both an elementary and a middle school curriculum for the programs. Our Professional Development for Certified Teachers is a free two day workshop presented each June to about 30 certified teachers who learn how to use art to strengthen the curriculum across the board. This program benefits approximately 600 children annually.

nEW MExICO JAzz WORKSHOPFor the past 40 years, the New Mexico Jazz Workshop (NMJW) has used music education for young people to inspire, connect and transform lives. Since inception, education -- specifically youth education-- is one of the Jazz Workshop’s highest call-ings. Each year, NMJW provides educational programming and outreach services to 5,000 area young people ages 6-18; with 95% of these services delivered free of charge and need-based scholarships available for tuition programs. As a non-profit with a long history of providing quality music education for youth, we now see our former students making important contributions as full-time music teachers in public schools, nationally known jazz musicians, and working in other aspects of the music industry. More important, however, are the success stories from our music-based “interven-tions” that provided the impetus for change for kids such as Tiberius, troubled and at-risk middle-school student in the South Valley, or Akiah, an incarcerated teenager at YDDC, who turned things around by getting her GED and going to college to learn audio-production technology after her release.

nATIOnAL DAnCE InSTITUE–nEW MExICOSince 1994, NDI-New Mexico (NDI) has targeted schools with the fewest resources, providing children access to high quality arts programs that positively impact their health, academic achievement, and quality of life. With joyful programs that inspire children to work hard, do their best, never give up and be healthy, NDI teaches young people to strive for excellence. Our Albuquerque program serves nearly 3,000 students through year-long outreach programs in 22 public elementary schools and offers after-school, weekend, and summer opportunities to children aged 3-18 at The Highland Theater.

nEW MExICO PHILHARMOnICIn January of 2013, the NMPhil began the Young Musician Initiative (YMI), an in-depth music education program for Title 1 elementary school students. YMI is based on El Sistema, a revolutionary music education method pioneered in Venezuela in 1975 and now used around the world. YMI offers daily instruction in vocal and rhythmic training, private lessons, sectional practice with their chosen instrument and tutoring in academic subjects. The program builds confidence and ownership in the children and instills life skills that will serve them immediately and throughout their lives. Through their YMI skills the students are developing their abilities, improving their grades and changing their lives for the better.

This beautiful sculpture was created for Vintage Albuquerque 2016 by Carol and Randy Cooper. Their magnificent Shadow Sculptures adorn fine homes and busi-nesses all over the world. Shadow Sculptures are hand made and sold in fine-art galler-ies in Paris, New York City, Tel Aviv, San Francisco, New Orleans, Stockholm, La Jolla and many other great cities. Randy and Carol have three large sculptures of ancient sea creatures on permanent display at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History!

Randy and Carol have drawn upon many different experiences to create this stunning sculpture. Those lovely creatures in the Butterfly Pavilion at the botanical garden, a lifelong love of flowers, and appreciation of beautiful things all came together to inspire the artists to make this unique sculpture. They have combined the beauty, elegance, and mystique of the lotus with the whisper-ing of the butterfly’s soft wings to create a masterpiece that mesmerizes everyone who sees it.

Imagine this stunning sculpture in your home with its brilliant colors and soft tones adding to your decor. Make the presentation even more powerful by shining a light upon the sculpture to bring out the shadow, showing a butterfly hovering over the lotus.

Events like Vintage Albuquerque don’t produce themselves, though sometimes we wish they could. Thousands of hours of volunteer time goes into planning and producing the event and all that goes with it. We appreciate those who officially dedicate their time and effort to this great series of event that provides fun and joy for thousands of us, and over the years, millions of dollars that supports the programs that open worlds for New Mexico children. Tonight marks the third year that Greg quiroga has graced our stage to help conduct our auction, taking the place of his long-time mentor and co-auctioneer David Reynolds. Greg spent ten years working with David, and it was David’s mentorship that launched Greg’s early career. Greg is now one of the nation’s premiere fundraising auctioneers, working under his new company’s name, Stellar Fundraising Auctions, founded in 2014.

Greg now works with over 50 non-profits, schools, foundations, arts organizations and charities to help raise millions of dollars a year for great causes all over the united States. His performances are always a fiery combination of passion, humor and heart-felt engagement. His favorite part of every auction is that moment when the crowd comes together to help change the world through funding a need.

He also enjoys “encouraging bidders to spend more than they should on things they don’t need in support of a great cause,” and always manages to make people feel good about doing exactly that.

Greg and his wife live in San Francisco with their son, Ryder, who sold his first auction lot when he was just four.

Beaucastel is one of the best known Châteauneuf du Papes in the Southern Rhone Val-ley. The Vintage ABq wine committee apparently all endorses and collects this wine (for good reason) and they got together on this incredible 14-bottle vertical.

Beaucastel’s classic cuvée emerges from 173 acres planted with all the appellation’s permitted red varietals. The percentage of grapes planted (the blend can vary) is 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, 5% Cinsault, and the rest primarily Vaccarese and Muscardin. Beaucastel tends to produce 20,000-24,000 cases of Châteauneuf du Pape.

The anchor of this six-bottle Spanish collector’s case is the Pingus 2003, of which Rob-ert Parker wrote, “A candidate for perfection, the profound 2003 Pingus possesses an awesome smoky, blackberry, and cassis-scented nose intermixed with hints of espresso roast, lead pencil shavings, cedar, and subtle new oak. Sensational concentration, a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol, and wood, and a blockbuster finish lasting nearly a minute result in one of the most profound wines ever made in Spain. It should age effortlessly for two decades or more. (96 - 100pts RP)”

Parker also notes, “As usual Clos Erasmus is one of Spain’s finest wines. The 2006 Clos Erasmus offers an ethereal bouquet of balsam and sandalwood, incense, liquid mineral, black cherry, and black raspberry. Dense, rich, and voluptuous on the palate, it has plenty of well-concealed ripe tannin, tons of fruit, and potential complexity. Give it 5-7 years of additional cellaring and drink it from 2015 to 2025. (97 RP)”

“These wines usually flirt with perfection, which is the case with the 2000 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree. It boasts an amazing nose of licorice, minerals, acacia flowers, honey-suckle, and a hint of butter. unctuously-textured and full-bodied, with great intensity and purity, yet remarkably light on its feet, it can be drunk over the next 3-4 years, then forgotten for a decade, after which it will last for 40-50 years. (100 RP)”

Parker also notes, “An iconic wine as well as a remarkable achievement, the 2009 is the greatest Cos d’Estournel ever produced. It is approachable enough at present that one could appreciate it with several hours of decanting, but it will not hit its prime for a decade, and should age effortlessly for a half century. (100 RP)”

“This is a towering achievement. It is delightful on every level. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is an expressive, exuberant and stunning wine that opens to a dark ruby color and rich consistency. The bouquet is never-ending with immediate intensity that is followed closely by finely-tuned aromas of black cherry, spice, grilled herb, clove, tobacco, wet earth and white truffle. A gorgeous display of elegant mineral tones rises from the bouquet with time. (100 pts)” -- Robert Parker

Washington State is well known by wine connoisseurs for sublime Cabernet Sauvi-gnons and savory Rhone wines. This lot is rich with both.

Parker writes of the 2010 Leonetti Reserve:“ Inky purple in color and gorgeously rich and pure, it slowly gives up notions of smoked black currants, espresso, liquid flower, licorice and graphite that flow to a full-bodied, concentrated, plush and seamless, perfectly balanced, no hard edges and an incredible finish. It’s a monumental bottle of wine that will drink well at an early age, yet age effortlessly for two decades or more. (100 Points) Drink now-2030.”

Argentina and Chile are producing some the New World’s most compelling red wines, particularly from Malbec. Here are 30 bottles that represent the best of South America

Founded in 1998, Achaval-Ferrer is a team of friends who dream about great wines. Achaval-Ferrer is also a collection of old vineyards in beautiful places. They are com-mitted to the production of wines that are expressive of their terroir. They are a small winery with low yields that allow the vineyards to express their personality in the grapes. Each of their wines is a different expresson of Malbec: The Mendoza Malbec is about varietal tipicity. Their quimera blend is about Malbec as the key to complex-ity and balance. And their Fincas (Single Vineyards) are about how Malbec expresses different soils and microclimates.

Now, a tradition in the Vintage Albuquerque Live Auction, we once again present the extremely difficult-to-acquire Wine Spectator Top 12 Wines of the year. This extraor-dinary collection represents the absolute best of the best of 2015. Each bottle is hard to find, and some have been almost impossible to secure. The winner of this lot may very well posess the only one of its kind.

Each year, Wine Spectator editors survey the wines reviewed over the previous 12 months and select their Top 100, based on quality, value, availability and excitement. This annual list honors successful wineries, regions and vintages around the world. Thus is a great example of where the whole is greater than the parts, and the parts are pretty darned good.

Two of the most genuine and sincere winemakers in the business, Jake and Scot Bilbro’s winemaking philosophy at Marietta Cellars is simple: “Dad taught us what matters. He is a tireless, big-hearted, and humble man. He made wine by feel and instinct. Following those ideals is what allows us to carry on his tradition of blending great wines and selling them at fair prices. At Marietta Cellars our wines are honest, generous, satisfying, and dependable. Just like our Dad.” Taste their wines with one of their signature outdoor cookouts at the winery.

We are honored to have Gloria Ferrer as our Vintage Albuquerque Sparkling Wine of the Year. We are blessed to have Gloria Ferrer’s Ambassador, Lori Anne McBride, as a longtime supporter of Vintage Albuquerque. She has set up the winning bidders for a VIP Tour, Tasting and Lunchon for 4 at the beautiful Gloria Ferrere winery and provided a 3L of their wine for tonight.

Begun in the 1970’s as a vineyard selling grapes to some of Napa’s best known vintners who used them to make award winning wines, SILVERADO VINEYARDS ultimately began making & selling their own wines. Nourish your inner artist before combining memorable wines with memorable views as you enjoy a flight of rare & small production wines from a terrace offering stunning 180 degree views of the valley.

Over the past 30 years, FROG’ LEAP has earned an enviable reputation for using organically grown grapes and most traditional winemaking techniques to produce some of Napa’s more balanced and restrained wines that reflect their terroir. John Williams says, “My grandfather always said that you could pretty much tell how good a farmer was by how straight his fences were. Perhaps the Napa Valley equivalent would be that you can predict the quality of a winery’s product by the health of their vines. After four decades of making wine in the Napa Valley, I am proud to say that Frog’s Leap grows almost all of our own grapes. And a visit to the winery always starts in our beautiful vineyards.” Experience the wines up close and personal wiht a VIP Tour and Tasting for 4.

A Growing Tradition, for nearly a quarter century, the Round Pond family has been growing some of the finest winegrapes in the heart of the Napa Valley’s acclaimed Rutherford region. Home to some of the most famous American vineyards, and some of the most coveted Cabernet Sauvignon fruit, Rutherford is widely recognized as one of the great viticultural regions of the world. View the vineyards and taste the resutls with your VIP Tour and Tasting for 4.

About BLACK CORDON Vineyards, Robert Parker says, “This is a strong effort from a winery I have not seen before.” Antonio Galloni writes, “Black Cordon was one of the most pleasant surprises of the month I spent in Napa Valley last year.” Consulting Winemaker Paul Hobbs says, “We are guided by the belief that winemaking is a matter of crafting balance. A well-made wine will seamlessly balance fruit, acidity, oak nuances, alcohol and tannins. A great wine, however, will take all of that and then raise the stakes by adding some additional components to the mix - character, complexity and layers of intriguing flavors. We approach our winemaking with the intention of crafting wines that incorporate all of these qualities. And we’re able to take our wines to this next level because of something that we realized early on - paying attention to every detail of our vineyard’s personality is what creates the special nuances in the grapes that will then become great wine.” Enjoy the wines up close and personal with a guided VIP Tour and Tasting followed by a gourmet lunch for 4.

For the past 40 years, the New Mexico Jazz Workshop (NMJW) has used music education for young people to inspire, connect and transform lives. Each year, NMJW provides educational programming and outreach services to 5,000 area young people ages 6-18; with 95% of these services delivered free of charge and need-based scholar-ships available for tuition programs.

The range of the Jazz Workshop’s youth education programs include:

• Our “Arts in Social Services” programming called Empowerment Through Music: this dual-component program includes the South Valley Band Project, free after school music classes for at-risk South Valley middle school students, and the Digital Technology Project, where incarcerated young people learn to get in touch with feelings through therapeutic writing, then compose, record and mix original music based on those writings. • Roots of Jazz: free educational music programs delivered to elementary school students. Each year, youngsters in 19 APS schools learn about the origins and journey of Jazz through an interactive program that includes lively music and dance demonstrations from Africa, Cuba, Brazil and the united States. • Summer Jazz Intensive: a 6-week skill building program is designed for middle and high school students who want to expand their Jazz-playing and im-provisational skills. For the first time ever, a couple of our former South Valley Band Project students will be participating in the Jazz Intensive this summer on schoalrship, highlighting an important expansion of, and connection between, our programs.• Creative Arts Camp: a music and art summer day camp for children. Now in its 23rd year, kids from 6-12 learn the skills to engage in a wide variety of art forms, including garage band, ukulele, visual arts, hip hop dance, Latin percussion, Capoeira and more.

Some of Robert Parker’s Reviews of these beauties:

“The 2005 Lafite is, “Beautiful, elegant red, blue and black fruits (89% Cabernet Sauvi-gnon and 11% Merlot) as well as some graphite and spice notes jump from the glass of the 2005 Lafite Rothschild. Medium-bodied, with superb purity and texture, this is not a blockbuster by any means, but a meticulously made, lovely-textured Pauillac. Long and pure, this wine should drink well for 25-30 years. There is no danger in pulling the cork on it today. (95 points)”

“The 2000 Leoville Barton is a behemoth – dense, highly extracted, very tannic, broodingly backward, with a dense purple color and very little evolution since it was bottled 8 years ago. Wonderfully sweet cedar and fruitcake notes are intermixed with hints of creme de cassis, licorice, and earthy forest floor. It is full-bodied and tannic, with everything in place, but like so many wines that come from Leoville Barton, it makes a mockery of many modern-day consumers wanting a wine for immediate gratification. Those who bought it should continue to exercise patience and be proud to own a wonderful classic with five decades of longevity ahead of it. (96 points).”

Vintage Albuquerque is again trading charity wine auction packages with our friends at the 32n annual WINESONG scheduled for September 9th and 10th, 2016.

WINESONG, one of the nation’s most successful charity auction events, is the premier charity auction and tasting event throughout all of Northern California. A memorable time is guaranteed while raising funds for the Mendocino Coast Hospital Foundation.. One hundred and thirty miles (130) north of San Francisco, the moody bluffs of the Mendocino Coast have long been a spectacular place to observe marine life: passing humpback whales, sun-happy sea-lions and foamy waves strewn with kelp. Enjoy the magnificent redwood forests, the rugged coastline, quaint or luxurious lodging , the cool ocean fog and long mild days of this secret paradise. No longer a well-kept secret, the New York Times named Mendocino County one of its fifty-two (52) places to go in 2014 and Forbes named Mendocino County’s Anderson Valley Wine Country one of its five (5) alternative travel destinations of 2014.

Winemakers from throughout Northern California have gathered in September for a spectacular wine-celebration auction weekend on the stunning Mendocino Coast for the last 34 years.

Now you are invited to join, with full VIP access for four days and three nights, the Winesong festivities held on September 9 and 10, 2016. It is all to benefit the Mendocino Coast District Hospital.

As you make your way to Winesong, your scenic drive north from the San Francisco Bay Area, will take you through the picturesque Anderson Valley. Nestled in the western edge of Mendocino County, this is “green, serene, casual territory”. The area is adjacent to Redwood forests and the Pacific Ocean that endows it with an unique climate perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes and features many of Mendocino County’s top wineries…this is the perfect venue to get to know this hidden jewel and its bounty.

And, as VIP guests you are invited to stop for a picnic lunch at Scharffenberger Cellars as well as a tasting at Roederer Estate, both famous for their sparkling wine.

Your ‘home away from home’ for three nights will be one of Mendocino’s finest inns; perched on the bluffs over-looking the Pacific… this is where the coast’s history and natural beauty meet. The Mendocino coast’s ocean-view lodging and superb dining opportunities create the ambiance for a romantic and relaxing stay.

Truly the highlight of the trip will certainly be the events surrounding Winesong. With VIP status, enjoy a two-day immersion into the world of wine. On Friday afternoon, enjoy the celebration of Pinot Noir featuring the wines of the Anderson Valley and other special Pinot Noir producers from California, Oregon and Washington. To continue the revelry you will enjoy the evening and sunset at Winesong’s Welcome Reception held at a beautiful coastal home; mingle with locals, winemakers and Winesong aficionados from around the country.

On Saturday morning, join the grand tasting that features up to 100 wineries from throughout California, Oregon, and Washington along with stand-out international wineries. Enjoy luncheon and reserved seating at the Winesong auction known for its array of collectible cult and fine wines, horizontal and vertical collections, large format art bottles, and inspired getaways. Continue your Saturday night festivity at the private beach party celebrating great friends and the day’s winning bidders.

The focus of this lot is on the winemakers and wine associated with the Long Shadows Winery concept. Founded in 2003, Long Shadows is the brainchild of Washington wine luminary Allen Shoup. As president and CEO of Chateau Ste. Michelle and its affiliated wineries, Allen spent 20 years building the reputation of the growing region, in part by forging winemaking partnerships that brought Italy’s Piero Antinori and Germany’s Dr. Ernst Loosen to the Columbia Valley.

After leaving Ste. Michelle in 2000, Allen’s commitment to advancing the Columbia Valley remained undaunted. He spent the next three years developing Long Shadows, a proposition that was as simple as it was complex: recruit a cadre of the finest winemakers in the world; give each vintner access to Washington State’s best grapes; and outfit a winery to accommodate a diverse group of winemakers.

Long Shadows brings seven highly acclaimed vintners from the major wine regions of the world to Washington State, each to a unique winery dedicated to producing Columbia Valley wines that showcase the best of this growing region. This lot includes a 6 bottle set in the original wooden box of Long Shadows wines from 2005/2006. There are an additional 6 bottles that match the Long Shadows wines with other wines affiliated with the lead wine maker in their country of origin.

Presenting a never-before offered wine lovers’ dream week, designed especially for Vintage Albuquerque’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience Burgundy’s wine, food, history, and culture “behind the walls.” Carolyn and Ken Thompson, owners of Your Key to Burgundy and a residence in the famous wine village of Pommard since 2005, will personally share with four guests the region that has become their 2nd home. Plus, your experience will coincide with the weekend of the “Trois Glorieuses,” the most famous wine auction in the world that takes place each year in Beaune over the 3rd weekend in November.

Four guests will arrive in Pommard for your seven-night stay in a two-bedroom, beautifully-appointed townhouse apartment accommodation to find your fridge stocked with items you have pre-selected. The Thompsons, who live nearby, will be on hand to greet you and help you settle in for your adventure to come. Over the next days, you will enjoy these experiences, with the Thompsons as your personal guides:

• A guided walking tour of Pommard, the village that Thomas Jefferson knew and loved so well.

• A full day (with lunch) exploring the Côte de Nuits, home to some of the most treasured pinot noir in the world.

• A second day (with lunch) exploring villages, domains, and wines in the Côte de Beaune, where luscious whites reign supreme.

• A day in Beaune at its most festive time of the year, on the Sunday of the wine auction.

• Personal introductions to and tastings with winemakers, both in Pommard and throughout the region.

And, for the “pièce de résistance” of this magical week, you will attend as personal guests of Carolyn and Ken the Saturday night “Diner de la Vente des Vins,” an elegant gastronomic evening of wine, food, and celebration put on by and for the members of the Bailliage de Pommard. Wines from Pommard’s most celebrated vignerons will be paired with several courses prepared by a Michelin-starred chef. You will be entertained by Les Enfants de la Côte as they perform rollicking songs from the French wine-growing tradition. And, you will observe first-hand the induction of new members into the wine society – a ceremony full of pomp and circumstance that has its roots in the Middle Ages. This is Burgundy “behind the walls” as few outsiders have ever experienced it!

Plus, in preparation for your Burgundy experience, you will enjoy in your own home a “master-class” overview of Burgundy “climats” with tastings and educational materials (to be held in Albuquerque), as well as the services of Your Key to Burgundy to help you plan additional aspects of your travels, all according to your personal interests and desires. Without doubt, a unique experience of a lifetime!pair with the dishes.

Seven nights, to include the weekend of “Les Trois Glorieuses” (November 18-20, 2016)

with exact arrival/departure dates to be determined in consultation with the winning bidder.

Monetary Value: $18,000 Experiential Value: Priceless!

While Tuscany has been producing compelling wines for 3000 years, only the past 30 years has seen the Tuscan Bolgheri Coast producing wines. And what wines they are! The temperate coastal climate and unique soils make Bolgheri one of the most fascinating regions to produce Cabernet Sauvigon and it’s related varitels. Vintage Albuquerque long-time wine committee supporter, Catherine (“Cate”) Baker Stetson is an avid traveller to the region and she has dug deep to share 13 of the best wines the Bolgheri Coast has to offer. Molto Bene!

For example, Robert Parker writes, “The 2010 Sassicaia Bolgheri Sassicaia brings back some of the brambly rosemary and wild Mediterranean brush that was missing in 2009. This will greatly appeal to enthusiasts of Sassicaia’s trademark elegance. The wine shows extreme purity that brings its many beautiful aromas into startling focus and clarity. Lingering tones of black fruit and Oriental spice add subtle shades at the back. The wine mostly certainly shows its pedigree in the exciting and beautifully balance manner it evolves in the glass: It tells a new story each time you return to observe the bouquet. This is the harbinger of cellar longevity. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040. “
