About Partners for a Hunger-Free OregonWe envision an Oregon where everyone is healthy and thriving, with access to affordable, nutritious and culturally appropriate food. To bring that vision into

reality, we raise awareness about hunger, connect people to nutrition programs, and advocate for systemic changes that end hunger before it begins.

Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. We coordinate the work of the Oregon Hunger Task Force to carry out a collective plan

to end hunger in our state.

Our 2017 Highlights

10,775 kids connected to breakfast We partnered with 81 Oregon schools to boost School Breakfast participation. Collectively, these schools served 178,000 school breakfasts in November, and increased access to the program for 1,300 students.

2,765 kids connected to summer nutritionThrough our Summer Meals Support Fund grants, we supported 18 communities in serving 143,480 Summer Meals, providing learning activities, and building community.

“Our district is committed to getting school breakfast to every child every day. We started offering breakfast in the classroom this year, and we can already feel the difference it’s making at our school.” Rikkilynn Larsen, Child Nutrition Director of Umatilla School District and 2016 November School Breakfast Challenge participant and 2017 first place winner

“It was a fantastic summer and we were able to introduce children and their families to eating fresh produce straight from the garden! Our whole community came out to learn about healthy eating on our Fresh Fridays in the Garden.”Senitila McKinley, Director, Seashore Family Literacy

“Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon generously partnered with Lake Health District and with tremendous help from community volunteers, the health district served more than 2,300 meals this summer at five sites in southwest Lake County.”Kristi Albertson, Lake Health District

In 2017, we partnered with communities, organizations and individuals across Oregon to listen to people with lived experiences of hunger, build a movement of community leaders and support policies that lift Oregonians out of poverty.

400 people trained across Oregon in SNAPWe supported a network of organizations conducting SNAP outreach throughout Oregon by providing SNAP trainings and presentations to over 400 people.

“I appreciated Partners for Hunger Free Oregon reaching out to a vulnerable group of citizens and selecting Meals on Wheels People centers to bring SNAP outreach and application assistance is a great idea.”Meals on Wheels center manager

“I really enjoyed reaching out to people and helping them learn more about SNAP and helping them sign up for it.”PHFO volunteer

19 emerging leaders supportedThe first 12-member cohort of our Hunger-Free Leadership Institute graduated. This fall we welcomed a second cohort of leaders, building a community of support among 7 amazing women as they call for justice and equity in their communities.

54,000+ Oregonians connected to SNAPIn 2017, we helped connect Oregonians with information about the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to strengthen a stable and reliable connection to food. We provided SNAP outreach and application assistance to 1,147 older Oregonians through a partnership with Meals on Wheels People.

Victories for a Hunger-Free OregonTogether, we helped win changes at the legislature in 2017 that help Oregonians put food on the table, including an additional $1.2 million for fruits and vegetables for seniors and families participating in WIC and preserved funding for programs facing cuts, such as Farm to School, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).

“I have realized even more clearly that being a person who advocates for food justice is an integral part of who I am.” Alison DeLancey, H-FLI Fellow
