a wide range of critical issues. Yet, even though there is much hand-wringing on earth, there is no panic in

I am so grateful to serve as Pastor to such a caring body of believers. In recent days I have seen church

members step out and serve others in ways that were not always easy. We often talk about WBBC being a

family, and I regularly see living proof of that reality. Thank you, members of WBBC for seeing and meeting

needs!

Thanks to Ken Petty for helping organize our Men’s Conference, led by Johnny Hunt via simulcast. We have

been challenged to be men of integrity in our work, our thought lives, our finances, and our relationships.

We are also meeting for a Men’s Breakfast each month to discuss a chapter from Patrick Morley’s book, “The

Man in the Mirror: Solving the 24 Problems Men Face.” This month we will be discussing Chapter 3:

“Biblical Christian or Cultural Christian?” Even if you have missed the first two chapters it is not too late to

jump in.

God continues to bring new people to our worship service each Sunday. When you enter the sanctuary, if

you see someone you don’t recognize, go and introduce yourself, and even offer to sit with that person(s). It

Louisville, KY 40207 Is Almost here!

A couple of weeks ago I preached on Psalm 19. In it, David demonstrates how God is revealed in nature and in His

Word. Famed composer Franz Joseph Haydn was so impressed with this Psalm that he included a movement in his

oratorio Creation titled “The Heavens Are Telling.” Haydn was acquainted with Isaac Newton and was fascinated with

knowing more about creation and how it was ordered by God. He desired to know more about what God had created

for human beings to enjoy. Do we have that same fascination with God’s creation?

David writes that we can receive general revelation through what we see and experience in creation. He also makes it

clear that that alone can only bring the knowledge that we are responsible to our creator. Paul reiterates this in Romans

1, where he concludes that general knowledge only convicts us of our sinfulness. We need the knowledge of Christ to

make ourselves right with our creator. We need the knowledge of Him as

Savior, the sinless sacrifice for our sins. This must become a personal

knowledge and acceptance of this truth, not just something we are acquainted

with. David takes delight in knowing of God’s salvation. David was looking

forward to Christ’s sacrifice with hope and he delighted in God’s Word. He

found it “sweeter than honey from the honeycomb.” May we too find God’s

Word sweet and fulfilling to our souls.

Blessings in Christ,

Brent

My oldest turns 8 years old this month so I am pretty new at this parenting thing in the grand scheme of life. I know that I’ll never get it perfect and most days it feels like I am stumbling more than I am walking through this journey of parenting. However, two things have given me hope and help in these eight years of parenting: 1) reminding myself that God is gracious and 2) seeking the help from other Christian parents. God has brought some amazing models of Christian parenting my way and I am so grateful for their wisdom. I have also been directed to some really great books on parenting from Christian authors. I would like to share some of those resources with you and periodically I will write a short review for you in hopes that you too will pick it up and glean from the author’s wisdom.

The first book I would like to share with you is Paul David Tripp’s book Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family. As evident by the title Paul David Tripp presents 14 principles to parenting but the book has a main theme running through it that as parents we are called to be ambassadors for God to our children. It is our primary calling and purpose in the lives of our children.

“Good parenting, which does what God intends it to do, begins with this radical and humbling recognition that our children don’t actually belong to us. Rather, every child in every home, everywhere on the globe, belongs to the One who created him or her. Children are God’s possession for his purpose. That means that his plan for parents is that we would be his agents in the lives of these ones that have been formed into his image and entrusted to our care.” (pg 14).

Parenting in light of being an ambassador to my children was not how I started out parenting and I have found that it is an intentional exercise of the will and the mind to reorient myself to this view point. However, it has so many implications in the life of a parent. It can restore hope in hopeless situations and empower us to work hard when we are tempted to parent lazily. It gives us a greater purpose in parenting then launching successful, thriving adults.

Each chapter in Tripp’s book discusses one of the 14 principles and causes us to stop and consider the how, what, who, etc of parenting. I have found that each chapter can also be read separately. As problems and concerns have a risen in our family I have reread certain chapters that would encourage me and remind me of my gospel mission. I hope that you check out this book (and others by Paul David Tripp) and that it will spur you toward God’s ambassador view of parenting. Blessings, Stephenie

The Trustees are happy to report that the cleaning and sealing of the outside block on the gym/educational

building has been completed. This was a project that was several years overdue. We have other projects planned

throughout our church but at this time we have been asked to slow down on our projects since the tithing is not

what it was this time last year. We need everyone to continue faithful tithing and increase our giving when we can.

Pray and ask God where you can help your church. It may be in increased giving, more hands on help, or by

volunteering for some of the positions that are open throughout the church. A couple dollars more each week or a

couple hours each week to volunteer can make a difference. Pray to be a faithful giver and have a servant’s heart.

We continue to post items that we deemed as obsolete items in our church. If you would like to purchase any of

them, we have a silent auction board in the Welcome Center along with pictures and descriptions of the items we

are getting rid of. New items are being added four at a time to the board. The money collected on these items

will go towards building improvements this year. Your Trustees are having a busy year and we will continue to

work for WBBC to improve God’s house. We hope you all can help us to continue to do this with your tithing

and your time. Thank you!

Ken Petty

Trustee Chairman

Brothers, I believe God wants us to take on a more biblical male leadership role inside and outside our

church and in our homes. It is time for us to recommit ourselves to raising up a generation of Godly

men, ready to lead and serve the bride of Christ. Our Brotherhood program is trying to do just that and

this has been weighing heavy on my heart and I feel God wants us to take on that leadership role daily

inside and outside the church and our homes.

This past Sweetheart Breakfast, we honored the ladies in our lives with breakfast, music, and singing. We

had somewhere around 75 ladies join us and they really enjoyed it. Concerning our Men’s Conference, we had eight men

attend and study how to renovate our lives with what God wants us to do. Each one of us walked away learning a little more

than when we first came to these sessions. We often live our daily lives doing the same thing each day not realizing that we may

be treating our wives or our kids wrongly. It may not be much, but everyone can improve themselves through God’s helping

hands. The breakout sessions were opened to all the men and boys in our church at no cost so they could see what goes on

during this type of conference and to peak interest in the men’s ministry at WBBC.

During our Men’s Breakfast, we have about 17 men attending studying the book “The Man in the Mirror”. I want to invite all the

men at WBBC to attend our Men’s Breakfast coming up on March 21st at 8:30 am and join us in studying how to become better

men of God. If you would like to purchase the book we are studying, you can purchase it through Amazon online for about

$12.00. We will have other events coming up soon and we would like to see more of our brothers participating and coming to

our events. Come join in and have fun and fellowship with us.

Our outreach team continues to visit new movers. We have visited over 50 so far in 2020. We are looking forward to the hiring of a new staff member to oversee outreach and recreation. We have found the most efficient way is to leave a packet containing a Bible, Grace tract, refrigerator magnet, postcard with times of our services on the door if they are not home. We always seek to visit personally if we have the opportunity, but leaving the information if they are not home seems to work the best. We are

always looking to expand our efforts and we could use someone to deliver the packets to 40291 zip code area of that is nearest to our church. At this time Bob and Charlotte Hopps are doing zip code 40218. Our other team members are taking care of 40299 and 40220. If you are interested in joining our team in visiting new movers, email Dave Hume at [email protected] or call him at 502-727-0170.
