Timing: 4 minutes

Presenter Guidance: Consider incorporating stats from the slide into your talking track. For example, 85 billion apps downloaded is a huge number given the world population - 80% of apps in 2012 will have some form of social functionality - >80% of new apps in 2012 distributed/deployed on clouds and 2/3 (66%) of mobile apps developed in 2012 integrate with analytics. Key Point:Four megatrends are emerging that we believe will be dominant forces of change over the coming decade: mobility, social, cloud, and business intelligence (BI)/big data. These four megatrends are not only happening simultaneously, but are highly interconnected. Unlike other major shifts in technology where typically there has been one predominant trend (such as the introduction of mainframe and, later, client/server computing), businesses must address all four of these trends simultaneously.Gartner reports that, CIO's increasingly see technologies such as analytics/business intelligence, mobility, cloud and social in combination rather than isolation to address business priorities. As mentioned earlier, IDC sees that these four megatrends collectively represent the next major platform.

Script:As we look across what is happening in the technology industry today and the many conversations that our account teams have had with hundreds of enterprise IT leaders, four megatrends are evident. These trends not only represent what is most important to our customers today, but what we feel are likely to be the dominant forces of change in the coming decade. The proliferation of new device types, along with the connectivity of the cloud, is making us more mobile and changing the way we work and play. As technology becomes more immersive, we also expect it to help us develop more personal and social connections with colleagues and customers. The connectivity the cloud offers is changing what we expect from technology. With an always-on connection, apps can provide innovative new services with instant scalability and attractive economics. While business intelligence (BI) has been important for a great number of years, the explosion in connected devices and apps is generating an exponential growth in data and the need to get better insights from big data.

At Microsoft were directly witnessing and experiencing these megatrends, but were not alone in our belief of their importance. According to IDC, In 2012, the ICT industry's shift to its third major platform of growth built on mobile, cloud, social, and big data technologies will accelerate. In contrast to what they refer to as the first (mainframe) and second (PC/server) platforms, they estimate that by 2020, enterprises highest-value leverage of IT will be driven by these third-platform technologies as well as an explosion of new solutions built on the new platform and rapidly expanding consumption of all of the above in emerging markets. Transition: You are not alone. Microsoft has reinvented and evolved our core business strategies in response to these four megatrends.

Wat is BI?

Business Intelligence (BI) is a set of processes and technologies and methodologies that allow people at all levels of an organization to:

CollectStructureAccess and analyze data

to gain insight into organizational performance.

Business Intelligence allows people at all levels of an organization to access, interact with, and analyze data to

Big DataBig data is high-volume, -velocity and -variety information assets that demand cost-effective, innovative forms of information processing for enhanced insight and decision making.

Part One: 3VsGartner analyst Doug Laney came up with famous three Vs back in 2001. In 2011, Gartner has identified twelve dimensions of data management all of which interact with each other and confound each other. We have four dimensions of Management & Control and four dimensions of Qualification. The three Vs are the driving dimensions of big data Quantification (there is a fourth too). The most interesting of 3Vs is variety: companies are digging out amazing insights from text, locations or log files. Elevator logs help to predict vacated real estate, shoplifters tweet about stolen goods right next to the store, emails contain communication patterns of successful projects. Most of this data already belongs to organizations, but it is sitting there unused thats why Gartner calls it dark data. Similar to dark matter in physics, dark data cannot be seen directly, yet it is the bulk of the organizational universe.Velocity is the most misunderstood data characteristic: it is frequently equated to real-time analytics. Yet, velocity is also about the rate of changes, about linking data sets that are coming with different speeds and about bursts of activities, rather than habitual steady tempo. It is important to realize that events in data arise out of the available data and that available data forms its own social network. This means that some data serves as a canary, other data influences and yet more data results in decisions. When the temporal relationship between two or more data sets changes (more data suddenly becomes less data), then everything else changes, even the definition of a data event.Volume is about the number of big data mentions in the press and social media.

Flexible Reporting

27 juni 2013

Zap provides flexible, self-service reporting that improves the accuracy and efficiency of the reporting processes. Users can automate reporting workflows to improve the timeliness of information and empower their teams to move beyond manual reporting and provide more strategic analysis that will impact the bottom line. Unlike many alternatives, a single solution for both reporting and analysis is used, which ensures minimal administration and training overhead.Key features include:Powerful Reporting Stop the use of unsecured spreadsheets by providing more powerful functionality than a pivot table, in a centralized web environment. Zap offers powerful new reporting capabilities that extend beyond traditional OLAP and Excel functionalities. Users can drill through on calculated members, create reports without the limitations of the hierarchy, and create list-type reports using member properties (such as phone numbers, alongside a typical measure such as amount). Date ranges are also now available; while not a typical OLAP functionality, this is a common requirement for the business user.Real Time Reports Gain all the benefits from Reporting Services reports while providing users with a single reporting environment. Integrate real time reports and geo maps from Reporting Services into Zap reports and dashboards, and slice them by any dimension.Visualization Add a chart to a report in a single click, choose from a wide range of charts, and make charts 3D. See hotspots in the data at a glance with heat maps and by flowing through conditional formatting of data points directly to the chart.44

Automated Report Packs

Management Reporting Automate and streamline management reporting by selecting reports, scorecards, dashboards, and charts into a report pack; add images, title pages, a table of contents, and explanatory text, and create a PDF. When opened, reports are automatically refreshed with the latest data, including fields within report explanations.

45

Ad-hoc analysis

27 juni 2013

Ad-hoc Analysis Answer any question at any time by exploring multidimensional data from many different perspectives by filtering, drilling down, slicing, and dicing.Visualization Add a chart to a report in a single click, choose from a wide range of charts, and make charts 3D. See hotspots in the data at a glance with heat maps and by flowing through conditional formatting of data points directly to the chart.46

Dashboards

27 juni 2013

Dashboards provide an instant visual snapshot of performance. Zaps dashboards offer:Dynamic Resizing Layout adjustments are automatic, such as resizing charts to fit a dashboard cell, and dynamically resizing an entire dashboard to suit the users screen resolution.On-the-fly Filtering Use a report within a dashboard to filter the entire dashboard. For example, if a user is looking at customer service metrics across the company, they can select an individual customer to filter the whole dashboard just for that customer.Drill down for Detail Drill down from a dashboard to lower level reports for more detail.Guided Analytics Any cell within a dashboard can be sliced by any other cell in the dashboard; this means that users can easily navigate through the data based on their own personal requirements.

47

KPIs

27 juni 2013

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are individual metrics that measure performance against target. Zaps KPIs offer:Flexible Formatting Zap provides a wide range of gauges and options so users can customize the look and feel of their KPIs.Flexibility to Customize Users can set anchors, choosing whether 'less is better' or 'more is better' on their KPI. They can also add extra needles to supplement the actual and target figures.Dynamic Calculations Boundaries and target figures can be dynamically calculated, which is useful when using KPIs within filtered dashboards.

48

Scorecards

27 juni 2013

Scorecards are a collection of key performance indicators (KPIs) to provide an at-a-glance snapshot of performance against targets. Scorecards are fully configurable and provide:Create Scorecard from Hierarchies Users save time creating detailed scorecards. Simply create a KPI at the top level of a hierarchy, and have KPIs automatically created for the dimension members you select. This enables users to pinpoint exactly which area is affecting an overall KPI by viewing the products and departments that contribute to the overall figure. For example, view expenses by actual vs. budget and see each individual departments contribution.Weighted KPIs Users can weight issues within a scorecard by importance, and then sort the scorecard to ensure they view the most important areas first.Additional Metrics Users are not just restricted to showing metrics for past, current, and target figures; users can add extra columns to extend metrics, such as same period last year, or trend for the quarter.

49

Advanced Functions

27 juni 2013

Until now, Business Intelligence application functionality has been limited to what the vendors software developers could add to the product during a typical development cycle.Using Zaps template architecture, business partners and customers can develop their own specific functions for use and reuse amongst themselves.

Advanced statistical functions can be developed externally and then easily imported into the application for immediate use.Now customers do not have to wait for new features; they can work with their Zap partner to develop them.

This particular screenshot demonstrates how functions can be used to make a reasonably large MDX statement into 3 placeholders

50

Alerting and report scheduling

27 juni 2013

Alerts provide an early warning system, so that users choose when and how they are notified by changes in performance. Alerting and report scheduling help you to automate your workflows and automate discovery and learning.

Users can save time and money by pre-defining which reports they are interested in and scheduling them to run automatically; or, they can choose to be alerted to key changes and be sent those analytics via email. Organizations can extend this to automate report publication to specific users, groups, or even non Zap users.

Reports can be either sent in PDF or published to the Zap BI portal. The same report can be scheduled to be run multiple times with different parameters, formats, frequencies, and destinations. By automating repetitive reporting tasks, Zap ensures that reports are created and distributed when needed and without error, saving time, effort, and money that would otherwise be associated with this process.

This fully configurable functionality includes:Alerts Alerts can be based on any change to a key performance indicator (KPI), such as the gross margin not meeting target or a new sale being made, a resource change (such as a report having changed), and scheduled events.Alerts with Insight Alerts can be sent with contextual reports, to immediately highlight the cause of the change.Security Automatically Applied Individual user security is automatically applied to any analytics that are distributed with an alert, even for PDF management reports.Flexible Distribution and Subscription Report distribution is based on a combination of events and time frames. Zap users can also choose to subscribe to existing reports to gain more control over the information they need.Wide Audience Distribute PDF management reports, even to non-Zap users.51
