PRV enhances in-house profiling capabilities
PRV Engineering, based in Pontypool, has recently invested in a CMS Idroline
S 1730 hydro-abrasive waterjet cutting system supplied and installed by Selmach Machinery. This high specification machine has allowed PRV to take on work and increase its in-house capabilities where more traditional cutting methods may not be suitable, and in the past were outsourced.
The company says that it can now cut a wide variety of materials in-house using the CMS waterjet, producing burr-free edges with high precision, even on irregular shapes. Simon Jones, managing director of PRV Engineering, says: “The CMS

Investment at Truturn Precision
Long-bed CNC lathe released in UKWard Hi-Tech is introducing the Hwacheon Hi-Tech 850L into the UK market. With
its large turning capacity of up to 5.5 m bed length, the machine is pitched at the oil and gas and heavy manufacturing sectors. The machine weighs 23 tonnes, comes with a 32” chuck and offers a maximum turning diameter of 1 m. A key feature of the 850L is the 12-station tool turret. This double width turret can support large cutting tools up to 100 mm diameter and boring bars beyond 1200 mm in length.
As expected with such a large turning centre, the Hi-Tech

The MTA says that the new machexhibition.com website has now launched, and the
ballot process for MACH 2018 is now open. To make it even easier to navigate, update and enjoy on mobile devices, the new MACH website has a more responsive design. As for the show, the NEC is still the location, but the exhibition will relocate from Halls 4 and 5, to Halls 17, 18, 19, 20, 6 and 7. These halls are located on the newer atrium side of the NEC complex and will see MACH 2018 occupy a single uninterrupted space, on one level. An investment of over £150,000 in a DMG Mori NLX2500SY/700 CNC lathe at the Halifax machine shop of James Heal is expected to
improve quality, reduce production time and positively impact capacity in readiness for growth. Components which would previously have been made on two separate machines, can now be completed on one, benefiting cycle and set-up times by reducing the hours involved. Stockholder benefits from Danobat bandsaws
Amodil Group, the UK’s largest stockholder of stainless steel long products
in the UK with over 5000 tonnes held of round bar, billet, wire and tubular products, has invested in two Danobat bandsaws from Prosaw.
With increasing demand for material to be supplied in cut pieces, the company has recently invested over £250,000 to expand its capacity for cuts up to 520 mm
diameter with tolerances as tight as 0.5 mm. Such tolerances demand accurate sawing systems, which is why the Shropshire-based company chose Danobat bandsaws from Prosaw, along with M42 blades.
The machines, a Danobat IDS5, capable of sawing stainless steel solid bars of up to 520 mm diameter and a Danobat DS3, with a capacity of up to 300 mm diameter, were supplied complete with integrated, heavy duty material handling
systems. Each machine is capable of sawing many different grades of solid stainless bars, including special stock such as Duplex, Super Duplex and 17/4 PH. Both machines at Amodil’s Cleobury Mortimer site are fitted with M42 blades to cut faster, more efficiently and with longer blade life than had been possible with existing equipment.
“We have been delighted with the quality and performance of the Danobat saw systems,”
states Amodil Group’s operations manager Alan Woodhouse. “We feel that Prosaw have performed extremely well, which is pleasing as they are very competitive in every respect, even in relation to our previous supplier. Ongoing sales success for ADS PrecisionADS Precision, which represents multiple saw manufacturers in the UK
market, says it has recently overseen a number of important installations. For instance, the company has delivered a Hydmech V-25APC heavy duty automatic bandsaw (pictured) to Sheffield-based Hillsborough Steelstock Ltd. The first such machine in the UK, the V-NC-controlled 25APC offers a capacity of 30” x 25” and can perform double mitre cutting 60° left and right. It also provides high speed
automatic feed indexing up to 60” (with 20” option) in one movement, while the PLC offers storage of up to 1000 jobs with the ability to run 20 jobs in a queue.
Elsewhere, ADS says that the UK’s first MEP Shark 331 NC 5.0 Spider has been installed at RCC Ltd. This bandsaw with automatic feeding for mitring up to 60° offers 330 mm capacity (the feeding vice cover features a limit switch for safety). Said to be extremely accurate, the brushless stepper motor provides users with a 600 mm stroke, while the
7” NC touchscreen control offers job queue capability. Despite its compact design, the bandsaw provides large capacity of 315 m². The machine’s hydraulic control unit ensures that customers can enjoy high efficiency and low energy consumption.
In other news from ADS Precision, the company has launched a new generation of unset carbide blades – the Bahco 3860 TC range – which is designed to offer the best performance and efficiency on the market when cutting materials such as titanium, nickel alloy, stainless steel, hastalloy and aluminium. Metsec enjoys 40% longer saw blade life
Dynashape, a saw blade servicing and manufacturing specialist that is part of the
Addison Group, has secured a new 12-month contract with Britain’s largest specialist cold roll-forming company, Voestalpine Metsec plc. The contract is for the supply of TiAlN-coated SHSS (super high speed steel) and TCT (tungsten carbide tipped) saw blades, as well as for saw blade remanufacturing.
“This will be the second year that we have provided saw
blade services to Metsec,” says Dynashape’s managing director, Chris Parkes. “When we first won the business in 2015, we demonstrated how our saw blades were capable of delivering in the region of 3000 cuts per blade. That’s around 900 more cuts per blade than Metsec was achieving using a competitor’s products.”
“We presently remanufacture some 20 to 30 SHSS saw blades each week for Metsec,” adds Dynashape sales engineer Richard Meacham. “Depending
on usage, blades can typically be remanufactured up to 12 times – for a fraction of the cost of buying new.”
Dynashape supplies saw blades to both the Custom Roll Forming (CRF) and Profile Manipulation (MPM) areas at Metsec’s Oldbury-based manufacturing site. The CRF division produces bespoke profiles from S460 steel and uses Dynashape’s 600 mm diameter coated TCT and SHSS TiAlN-coated blades. Metsec’s Profile Manipulation division uses Dynashape’s 300-315 mm diameter

Latest bandsaw from Amada unveiledAvailable in the UK from Accurate Cutting Services, Amada has introduced
its latest bandsaw technology innovation. The HPSAW 310 with 0° blade twist is pitched as a high performance bandsaw that, according to Amada, can achieve cutting rates more usually found on carbide circular saws.
The HPSAW310 removes one of the most significant barriers to high speed power sawing on a horizontal bandsaw machine – the
required twist in the blade, which at best can be 30°, and worst at 90°. In order to enable the blade to flex in up to three directions (bend round wheels, twist before and after guides, and beam deflection from feed force) without fatiguing the backing material and causing breakages, the blade is compromised by having a thin and narrow section. The narrower the blade width, the less beam strength it has, which limits the pressure that can be applied by the saw and the
more likely the blade is to deflect.The Amada HPSAW310
removes the blade width limitations by having 0° blade twist. It also allows an optimum width blade to
be used that provides maximum beam strength and facilitates the application of far higher feed forces.
Among further features of the machine is a 67 mm wide blade for maximum beam strength, and heavy bow construction to remove vibration and increase stability. Bandsaw optimised for bi-metal and carbide blades
Kasto is launching a high performance bandsaw, called KASTOwin pro AC
5.6, which is said to be optimised for use with either a bi-metal or a tungsten carbide tipped (TCT) blade. The machine will be presented for the first time at the forthcoming AMB 2016 exhibition on 13-17 September in Stuttgart, Germany.
The company will also display its range of products for sawing and storing bar stock and sheet. A particular message
on the company’s stands will be ecologically-friendly storage solutions with energy recovery. Benefits of the technology will be demonstrated on a KASTOunitower storage system.
Surplus energy from braking and lowering of a load is converted into electricity and stored temporarily for subsequent use, for example when moving and lifting the picking crane. This not only reduces energy costs but also improves the quality of the electricity supply because power
is drawn more evenly. It may also be possible to downsize the kVA rating of the three-phase transformer, lowering the investment cost.
Established equipment on display will include KASTOspeed automatic circular sawing machines. Designed for high volume production, HSS or carbide saw blades can be used depending on the properties of the material being cut. The saws may be integrated into an end-to-end material flow system by
a KASTOsort robotic interface. Robots remove the cut parts automatically and carry out other tasks such as deburring, marking, sorting and stacking.
A vertical bandsaw will also be on display, called KASTOvertical, which is aimed at companies producing smaller moulds and tools, as well as stockholders specialising in supplying blocks and plate up to 1060 mm long by 680 mm wide by 600 mm high.For further information www.kasto.com

Extreme mitre cutting with Starrett sawOldham-based Sellers Containers, part of the Egbert Taylor Group, is using a
Starrett S4240 semi-automatic bandsaw for extreme mitre cutting. Sellers is a skip and waste container manufacturer, and one of its Rear End Load (REL) skips calls for its lugs to be mitre cut at a 72° angle. Most conventional bandsaws cut up to just 45°, with a handful of machines being able to offer 60°.
“We attended the MACH 2016 exhibition at the NEC in
Birmingham with the goal of finding a bandsaw that was capable of cutting beyond 60°,” explains Phil Hadfield, manufacturing manager at Sellers. “We had been reliant on plasma cutting to manufacture this particular model of REL skip, a technique that is simply not accurate enough or fast enough to keep up with product demand compared with using a bandsaw.”
The biggest bandsaw stocked by Starrett, the S4240 has been designed with a cutting arm that can rotate to mitre cut up to 75°.
After discovering the bandsaw at the MACH show, Sellers shared its design specifications with Starrett’s engineers.
“The Starrett team were
very supportive during the whole process,” says Hadfield. “Purchasing such a large machine is a big investment, so we needed to be sure that we could accomplish the desired cut. Starrett shared videos of the saw in action and sent samples to show that we were getting everything we required with the S4240. Vollmer grinder ‘carves’ through saw blades
Vollmer has unveiled its Loroch Evolution K850-M metalcutting saw blade
grinder. Designed as an economical machine for small- to medium-sized customers, the K850-M offers new features said to improve automation and the operator experience.
Taking over the mantle of the ‘benchmark machine’ from its predecessor, the K850-M incorporates a new CNC control
unit with a 19” touch screen for intuitive programming. Vollmer says that blades can now be programmed in a matter of minutes with data entry performed directly on the large colour display with smartphone-inspired symbols.
As well as processing HSS saws, the machine can be used to grind solid carbide saws and friction saw blades. It features a direct-drive grinding wheel
configuration that is said to reduce power loss and eliminate vibration.
Saw blades from 130 to 520 mm diameter can be loaded automatically to the arbor in random order to suit production demands, while manual loading will accommodate blades up to 850 mm diameter.
The Evolution K850-M can create a tooth pitch from 1 to 40 mm with a maximum tooth height of
17 mm and a maximum number of teeth from two to 998. Blades up to 8 mm thick can be processed, while the automation system can hold up to 40 saw blades for unmanned processing. All this can be achieved within a compact machine dimension of 2.4 x 1.7 x 2.2 m, which includes the side loading automation stacking system.For further information www.vollmer-group.com

Sawcraft represents Noritake in EuropeSawcraft says it has been announced as the new European agency
for Japanese sawing machine manufacturer Noritake Co Ltd.
Noritake, established in 1904, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of high production circular sawing machines. The range includes six models that cover all types of ferrous metals from 10 to 250 mm diameter solid bar, as well as heavy wall tube applications. Noritake has made considerable investments in the
latest sawing technologies to ensure the NCS series offers high performance.
