1 Preface SONOREX TECHNIK high-power ultrasonic transducers are powerful and reliable and provide uniform sound distribution.High-power transducers are made of 2 mm or 3 mm stainless steel sheet.
This gives them high chemical resistance, high resistance to erosion phenomena and high resistance to abrasive soiling.
Compound sound models are also suitable for Pressure and vacuum loads and Operating temperatures up to 125 °C.

1.2 Usage SONOREX TECHNIK high-power transducers are only intended for use in aqueous liquids. Use of CFCs, chlorinated hydrocarbons and combustible liquids is not permitted. Liquids or viscous substances with a dynamic viscosity of >1000 mPa s at room temperature must not be used.
Tanks with integral high-power transducers must not be operated without liquid. High-power transducers must be completely covered with liquid. Protection with a fi lling-level control has been fi tted at the factory.
High-power transducers are always operated with an ultrasound generator (see Project Engineering Information High-Performance Ultrasonic Generators). Connections between the transducer and the generator are made via a HF cable in Quick-Connect technology or, in moist ambient conditions, via a permanent connection (cable screw). The permanent connection is available for all immersible transducers.
2 Operating principle The high-power transducer is operated by an ultrasound generator which uses low-frequency mains voltage to produce a high-frequency alternating voltage of 25 kHz or 40 kHz, depending on the working frequency of the connected transducer. The transducer converts the electrical energy into mechanical oscillations of similar frequency which act directly on the liquid via the sound emitting surface and generate cavitation. This is the formation of tiny vacuum bubbles which implode in the liquid. This can degas or homogenise the liquid or even "blast" the dirt from the objects to be cleaned, thus cleaning them quickly and thoroughly, even in inaccessible places such as cavities, cracks, etc.The high-power transducer has frequencies of 25 kHz or 40 kHz.With very solid, compact and non-sensitive parts which are heavily soiled, the best results are obtained at 25 kHz.Smaller parts with sensitive surfaces are better cleaned at 40 kHz.

3 Selection criteria High-power transducers generally off er high fl exibility of use in existing tanks and also when planning new tanks.Chapter 7 Installation examples gives various examples of installation as a basis for deciding whether to go for an immersible transducer or a fl at transducer plate.
Immersible transducers can be used in many diff erent circumstances but reduce the available internal dimensions of the tank.Flat transducer plates have no or very little eff ect on internal dimensions. However, it should be noted that additional space will be needed outside the tank at the installation site. Compound sound immersible transducers and fl at transducer plates are equally useful in terms of dimensions, but their exceptionally sturdy construction makes them suitable for pressure and vacuum loads and for temperatures up to 125 °C. They also exhibit a uniform output over the entire surface, a long service life thanks to low wear and high functional reliablility – without adhesive sealing of oscillating systems.
3.1 Determination of ultrasonic nominal power 5 to 10 W/L (ultrasonic nominal power in Watts per litre of bath volume) can be taken as a benchmark for optimal cleaning results. The bath volume in litres multiplied by 5 W/L denotes the approximate minimum necessary total ultrasonic output determined by selecting individual high-power transducers according to size, number and installation method.
3.2 Example An existing tank with a surface of 1200 x 900 mm and a fi lling height of 600 mm is prepared for lateral fi tting with immersible ultrasonic transducers at 25 kHz. The eff ective bath volume of approx. 600 litres requires an output of 6000 W 600 l • 10 W/l (Target for optimum cleaning result). The immersible transducers should be evenly distributed along the long sides. Total output should not exceed 6000 W. 6 type T 25 22 4 E immersible transducers of 1000 W each are selected (see Chapter 5). Installation is performed approx. 50 mm beneath the bath surface in vertical position, with the back of the transducer against the tank wall. To achieve the 6000 W ultrasonic nominal power in the 6 immersible transducers, ultrasound generator LG 6006 D with a nominal output of 6000 W is selected. A 1000 W immersible transducer is connected to each of the 6 generator power modules, each with a 1000 W nominal output.
The ultrasound generator's output stages automatically adjust to the immersible transducers' power consumption.

4 Notes
4.1 General • The ultrasonic eff ect is emitted directly from the sound emitting surfaces of the high-power
transducers (directionally dependent). • Do not place or accidentally drop any objects on the high-power transducers. Use the insert baskets or racks for the objects to be cleaned!
• Protect the high-power transducers from impacts if they are mounted on the side walls. • For intensive cleaning, the objects to be cleaned should be sonicated from several sides in
order to avoid shadowing. • Distances between adjacent high-power transducers should be as small as possible in order to
avoid sound-free zones. • The minimum distance between transducers and
- the liquid surface, - the side walls of the tank and - objects to be cleaned or baskets
must be at least 50 mm.• The minimum distance between transducers and heating sources must be at least 100 mm.• The maximum permitted operating temperature of the bath liquid is 90 °C and this must be
limited by suitable measures.• The distance between high-power transducers on opposite sides should be at least 300 mm.• Standard HF plug connectors in Quick-Connect technology must not be exposed to splashing
or moisture. If this cannot be avoided, due to the use of immersible transducers, the HF cable from the transducers must be led directly through a waterproof screw connection. All immersible transducers are also available with a permanent HF cable connection F.Please specify the connection type when ordering.

• In general, the rear of fl at transducer plates must not be exposed to splashing or moisture (Degree of protection IP 22).
• Flat transducer plates are suitable for installation in tanks with a wall thickness of 2-3 mm.

• In addition to cleaning technology, suitable cleaning preparations are crucial for an optimum cleaning result. TICKOPUR cleaning agents from the DR. H. STAMM GmbH company are used in the ultrasonic bath. Experience gathered from the most diverse areas of application has been employed in formulating the preparations. TICKOPUR preparations support the ultrasound, are biodegradable and are gentle on the workpieces and the cleaning tank. They are used worldwide and have been proven and tested a million times over.
If these instructions are insuffi cient for your project engineering, complete and send the questionnaire in the appendix. BANDELIN will then develop a proposal for you.

9.1 Standard connection for immersible transducers and fl at transducer plates
The Quick-Connect technology developed by BANDELIN simplifi es connections between the ultrasound generator and the HF connection socket on the high-power ultrasonic transducer and meets the requirements of EMC Directive 2014/30/EU.The transducers are directly connected to the power modules on the generator.
The connection technology on immersible transducers includes connection boxes TA, TA 2 and the HF cable (degree of protection IP 51).
The connection technology on the fl at transducer plates P/PQ includes the HF cable.
Several immersible transducers/fl at transducer plates can be operated simultaneously using the distribution boxes TV 2 or TV 4 and an additional HF cable.Max. output of all immersible transducers and fl at transducer plates: 1500 W

9.2 Permanent cable connection for immersible transducers For moist conditions, a waterproof solution with a permanent cable connection with degree of protection IP 65 can be used. The connection technology includes connection boxers TA-F or TA 2-F. The permanent cable connection is indicated by the letter F at the end of the immersible transducer designation. (E.g.: T 25 22 5 RF).

Important:For bottom or side mounting of installation type P, a minimum distance between tank and immersible transducer edge of 150 mm must be maintained, in order to avoid kinking the PTFE protective sleeve. If this cannot be done, immersible transducers of installation type W must be used. The distance for these is only 100 mm. The union nuts on the immersible transducer must be retightened at regular intervals.
Larger immersible transducers are fi tted with carrying handles for transport (see Chapter 8 – Table).
