Jen is having money troubles. Pablo’s lawyer friends had her suffering with legal fees, and she had stayed in the expensive family home while Pablo enjoyed himself in a much cheaper bachelor flat.
Food shopping was becoming a burden, the debt department took back an authentic period chair when she couldn’t pay her bills. Something had to give... Feeling miserable, Jen looks up the property ads.
She cheered up immediately when she found the new house across the road was available to rent. She popped over the road to have a nosy around. It was small and basic… but affordable. And she wouldn’t have to move away from her friends in the Street.
Jen and Pablo’s split was the top conversation topic in the Williams household. Marley and Aimee were just glad they had come to their senses and got their marriage back on track.
It was just such a relief to be out of that poisonous situation. They had been through a few bumps before deciding to start again in a new town, troubles with trust and mutual friends spreading rumours.
Perhaps their friends had been jealous. All they knew that their family life had improved ten-fold since leaving all that behind and starting again in Appaloosa.
Warren’s heart was in the right place, but he hadn’t checked the books before he spent so much money on Megan. The business had only really just started out, they didn’t have enough buyers. They were in real danger of going broke.
Teresa told Warren the party was over, she planned to get a job to support them while he continued working on his business. Warren was certain she was worrying over nothing, but gave her his support.
He had finished setting up a new batch one afternoon when Teresa informed him she had a small job as a classroom assistant at a school for special needs in a nearby town.
It was frustrating for her. She had trained to be far more than this, but that internship had ruined her life forever. Running her own business had been a return to her previous success, and this felt a major step backwards.
Though Warren didn’t seem to appreciate the seriousness of their position, she couldn’t begrudge him his carefree attitude. He had been through enough for her to try to bring him down now, when he was so happy.
She didn’t even kick up a fuss when none of them noticed she had been promoted to the manager of the classroom assistants, out of the classroom and into the office. But it would have been nice if her sacrifice had been a little more appreciated by those she was doing it for.
Besides, the focus at the moment needed to be on James. It was his last night with them before leaving for boarding school. They planned to make it special, without stressing him out.
After the family dinner Megan managed to engage him in a pillow fight, something she had always wanted to do with her big brother.
Warren and Teresa joined in, and the four of them spent ages play-fighting and laughing.
They all slept together in the living room that night, appreciating the need to be around each other until the last moment.
