OUR BOYS & ADULTS CHOIRS are singing Vespers with the Choirs of Leeds Parish Church, today (Sunday 18th October) at 3.00pm in the Parish Church. Please come along and support this joint act of worship.

WE WELCOME Sr Augustine Onwubiko DMMM, who is helping the Sisters until Sr Martin Raphael’s replacement is able to come.

THE VOICING OF THE ORGAN continues. The appeal stands at £39,150 towards the €700,000 cost. Many thanks. If you have ideas for raising money, please contact

Luke Mee on (0113) 240 2902 or by e-mail: [email protected]. You can still donate by sponsoring a pipe. The north transept is closed for the time being, to enable the scaffolding to be removed.

THE BOX for St George’s Crypt HARVEST APPEAL to

you, please see one of the priests without delay.

PASTORAL REORGANISATION IN LEEDS Last weekend there was a Pastoral Letter from the Bishop inaugurating the second stage of the consultation. Once again, we shall have a showing of the DVD which accompanies it. In the meantime, you can borrow one from the sacristy to watch with family, friends and neighbours at home.

WORK ON THE MURALS in the Lady Chapel is nearing completion. During this time, the Blessed Sacrament will be reserved in the War Memorial chapel.

DO TAKE CARE of bags & personal belongings whilst

going to Holy Communion, lighting a candle, etc.

PRAYER PRAYER PRAYER PRAYER The Jesuits run a very useful website called “Sacred Space”, which gives a prayer for each day and a simple method of meditation. Could be useful for those few spare minutes you may have at lunchtime! www.sacredspace.ie HEALTH & SAFETY TIP Lighting a candle is a symbol of our prayer and a way of extending it when we can no longer be there. But, please place lighted candles only in the sockets provided. If there isn’t room, leave your unlit votive candle on the tray beneath the lighted candles. It will be lighted for you when there is room.

IF YOU ARE an Extraordinary Minister of Holy

Communion or Reader in a parish other than the

Cathedral, and would be willing to exercise your ministry

at a weekday Mass here (especially the 12.30pm Mass),

please contact one of the priests.

LEEDS MUSEUM in Calverley Street, is currently holding an exhibition 'Faith in the City' showing the

variety of faith communities in Leeds. There’s a display of artefacts (including some from the

cathedral) and a short film.

THE ‘CARE NOT KILLING’ ALLIANCE (which

promotes palliative care and opposes euthanasia) has

organised an e-petition to the Prime Minister, opposing

the legalistation of assisted suicide. No person’s life is

without worth in God’s eyes. Sign the petition on-line,

go to: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/notolegalsuicide

YEAR OF PRAYER FOR PRIESTS: The Pope has dedicated 2009-2010 as a special year of “Prayer for Priests”. During this year, the 5.30pm Mass each Thursday will be offered for the sanctity of priests and priestly vocations. There is a leaflet on Indulgences to take home. The following prayer has been issued by the Congregation for Clergy. “Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle

around your priests and through her intercession,

strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will

guide your priests to follow her own words, “Do whatever

He tells you” (Jn 2:5). May your priests have the heart of

St. Joseph, Mary’s most chaste spouse. May the Blessed

Mother’s own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all

who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priests be

holy, filled with the fire of your love, seeking nothing but

your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen. St

John Vianney, pray for us.” During this year, the 5.30pm Mass each Thursday will be offered for the sanctity of priests and priestly vocations.

HOLY COMMUNION In order to assist in the orderly procession of communicants, please allow those in the transepts (the side-facing benches) to go before those in the nave. This is especially important at busy Masses

THE CATHEDRAL’S SAFEGUARDING representatives are Angela Hilton, Pam Lythe, Roddy Minogue and Janet Perman. Their details are displayed on the noticeboard at the back of the cathedral, and elsewhere on the premises.

VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to work as ‘Street

Chaplains’ in Leeds city centre, from 10.00pm -

2.00am on one Friday per month. This is an

ecumenical response to the needs of people using the city centre. People are needed to work on the streets

in small groups or to staff the base at Holy Trinity Church. If you can help, contact Rev Dr Adrian

Burdon on 0113 2752793, or e-mail:

[email protected]. Some members of

our congregation have already signed up to this initiative.

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES ARE STILL AVAILABLE * For those who currently use envelopes; * For those who do not currently use envelopes If you attend the Cathedral reguarly, please consider supporting it by regular giving, either with envelopes or by Bankers’ Standing Order (forms are available after Mass). If you are a UK taxpayer, completing a GAD form (Gift Aid Donation) increases your contribution - at no extra cost to you ! - by 28p in every £1.

THE LOOP INDUCTION SYSTEM is now working in the nave, aisles and transepts of the Cathedral

THE EXTENSION TO KILLINGBECK CEMETERY is now consecrated and opened. If you have previously notified the cemetery of your wish to purchase a plot, you should now confirm this with the cemetery direct.

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE CATHEDRAL - WELCOME! If you are able to contribute to the offertory collection by envelope or bankers’ order, please have a word with one of the priests or deacons. Tax-payers can increase the value of their giving by signing a Gift Aid Declaration. The Cathedral needs your support!
