HURLING JAMIE Heaslip will captain Ireland in this year’s RBS 6 Nations, des- pite the return of Brian O’Driscoll to the squad after missing last year’s Autumn Tests through in- jury. An enlarged 39-man squad, containing six uncapped players was announced today, ahead of the Wolfhounds’ clash with the England Saxons in Galway on Friday week. Munster assistant coach Anthony Foley and Leinster’s Greg Feek will be part of that coaching team for the Wolfhounds game, and will continue to work with Ireland throughout the 6 Nations. The squad will see several further addi- tions, following this weekend’s European games. Both squads will train in Carton House, with a Wolfhounds panel selected later next week. After the game, a smaller training squad will be selected for Wales. Commenting on the captaincy, Declan Kidney said “Jamie had done a really good job for the squad and management during November and I felt that now was the cor- rect time to do this. “Brian has had very little rugby in the last number of months and I think he deserves the space and time to concentrate on getting himself back playing fully fit.” Ireland training squad (39): Michael Bent (Leinster), Rory Best (Ulster), Isaac Boss (Leinster), Darren Cave (Ulster), Tom Court (Ulster), Sean Cronin (Leinster), Gordon D’Arcy (Leinster), Keith Earls (Munster), Luke Fitzgerald (Leinster), Declan Fitzpatrick (Ulster), Craig Gilroy (Ul- ster), Cian Healy (Leinster), Jamie Heaslip (Leinster, c), Iain Henderson (Ulster), Chris Henry (Ulster), Robbie Henshaw (Connacht), Paddy Jackson (Ulster), Rob Kear- ney (Leinster), David Kilcoyne (Munster), Ian Madigan (Leinster), Paul Marshall (Ulster), Conor Murray (Mun- ster), Mike McCarthy (Connacht), Fergus McFadden (Leinster), Dave McSharry (Connacht), Sean O’Brien (Leinster), Donncha O’Callaghan (Munster), Brian O’Driscoll (Leinster), Ronan O’Gara (Munster), Peter O’Mahony (Munster), Eoin Reddan (Leinster), Mike Ross (Leinster), Donnacha Ryan (Munster), Jonathan Sexton (Leinster), Lewis Stevenson (Ulster), Richardt Strauss (Leinster), Devin Toner (Leinster), Andrew Trimble (Ul- ster), Simon Zebo (Munster).
