North Sea Route WorkshopAbout WNISAT-1bout S
24th October, 2012,Weathernews Inc.Masaya Yamamoto
Back ground of the polar routeing
Since 2005, from Japanese and Asian shipping companies came to have interest and asked us thatcompanies came to have interest and asked us that there would be any possibility going through the Arctic Ocean from Asia to Europa.
As WNI is always supporting to shipping companies,WNI had started the Polar Routeing ProjectWNI had started the Polar Routeing Project.
What are the polar routeing brought us?
Benefits– Shortest route to Europa.
Save time save fuel and reduce CO2 emmisionSave time, save fuel and reduce CO2 emmision.
Risk– Sea ice.
In order to have capability of supporting polarIn order to have capability of supporting polar navigation, WNI had established GIC.

WNI approach to the Polar Routeing
More information, especially precise data.
To decide to launch our own satellite.
WNISAT-1 Missions
• Sea ice monitoringFor the safety navigation in iced sea.
• CO2 monitoringAs the shipping industry and WNI's CSR WNISAT 1As the shipping industry and WNI s CSR, WNISAT-1
challenge CO2 monitoring in collaboration with theshipping industry.

WNISAT-1 schedule
• Launch– To be launched 20th Nov. 2012 from Dombarovsky (Ясный)
by Dnepr-1 (Дніпро).
# To be postponed by Russian's political reason.
• On orbit operation– After two months from launch, initial check out will be
performed.– After check out, sea ice monitoring will start in icedsea area.
Future satellite utilization plans
• WNISAR-1– To monitor sea ice not only at clear day time not also
t i ht ti d l d i b SARat night time and cloudy using spaceborne SAR.– To also monitor tropical cyclones for safety ship navigation.
# Doing feasibility study and developing prototype of SAR.
SSMSAT 1• SSMSAT-1– SSM every where using AIS like encrypted system.
# AIS like encrypted system is now designing.
