Only Pittsburgh has faced Cleveland more times with 116 matchups. The Bengals hold a 39-36 advantage in the all-time regular season series, but the Browns hold a 22- 15 mark in Cleveland. The two teams split the season series in 2010 with the home team emerging victorious each time. This Sunday, the Browns and the NFL will take time to remember the courage and resilience that followed the events of September 11, 2001 with several special tributes to recognize those who lost their lives, honor the families who lost loved ones and salute the American spirit, the early responders on 9/11 and other heroes that contributed to the nation’s recovery. For more information on the Browns’ tribute to 9/11 please see page two of this release. This season the Browns will wear white jerseys and white pants for all home games for the first time since 1988. The all-white uniforms were a long-standing tradition dating back to Paul Brown, as the team wore the all-white combina- tion for all home games from 1947-55. Sunday’s contest will mark Pat Shurmur’s regular season head coaching debut. Shurmur’s résumé includes 23 years of coaching experience with 12 in the NFL. He spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator of the St. Louis Rams. In 2010, he mentored quarterback Sam Brad- ford who was named the Associated Press Rookie of the Year. Thirty three veterans remain on Cleveland’s active roster from a year ago as the Browns head into 2011 with 20 new faces. These consist of eight draft picks, seven free agent signees, four players acquired via waivers and one through trade. In addition to the eight 2011 draft picks, six members of the club’s 2010 draft class remain with the club. Eight of those 14 draft picks are currently penciled in as starters on the team’s depth chart. In addition, thirty eight of the club’s 53 players have joined the team in 2010 or 2011. The Browns’ 2011 roster is significantly younger than a year ago. During the season opener last year, Cleveland had an NFL-high 18 players who were 30 years or older. This year, the Browns have nine players who currently fit that cat- egory. During Week 1 of 2010 the Browns’ average age was an AFC-high 27.49 and the team had six rookie or first-year players. Currently, the Browns’ average age is 26.01 and the team consists of 15 rookie or first-year players. VS. Shurmur spent the past two seasons (2009-10) as the offensive coordinator of

The all-white uniforms were a long-standing tradition dating back to Paul Brown, as the team wore the all-white combination for all home games from 1947-55.

This is the continuation of a commitment made by President Mike Holmgren when he was named President of the Cleveland Browns to honor the Browns’ rich tradition. The Heritage of the Cleveland Browns is one of the four major priorities of our or-ganization, which also consist of Team, Fans and Community.

Since Holmgren joined the Browns, the club has instituted the Ring of Honor, brought back the Legends Program and estab-lished Heritage Hall at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

For the fi rst time since the 1981 Pro Bowl, the Browns had at least two offensive linemen representing the club at the annual all-star game as Joe Thomas and Alex Mack each earned the honor in 2010. The two helped pave the way for fi ve individual 100-yard rushing performances and a running game that averaged 4.0 yards per attempt in 2010.

Thomas has been selected to the Pro Bowl in all four of his NFL sea-sons. He has not missed an offensive snap since joining the Browns as the third overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft. Thomas is one of 19 Browns to earn Pro Bowl honors four or more times and just one of fi ve Browns’ offensive linemen (Lou Groza 1951-56, Abe Gibron 1953-56, Dick Schafrath 1964-69, Gene Hickerson 1966-71) to earn four or more consecutive trips. The last Browns player to be named to four consecutive Pro Bowls was cornerback Frank Min-nifi eld, who earned the honor for the 1987-90 Pro Bowls.

Mack has not missed an offensive snap since joining the Browns as the 21st overall selection of the 2009 NFL Draft. He is one of six Browns centers to earn Pro Bowl honors and was the fi rst since Tom DeLeone in 1981.

PRO BOWL PAIR ON THE LINE

Despite facing the toughest competition of all NFL rookies last year, quarterback Colt McCoy led all rookies with a 60.8 completion per-centage. His 7.1 yards per attempt average was the second-best among rookie quarterbacks.

Tight end Benjamin Watson led the Browns with 763 receiving yards and 68 receptions last season. His reception total was the sixth-most in a single-season by a Browns tight end and his yardage total was the eighth-most. He joined Ozzie Newsome (1981-85) as the only Browns tight ends to lead the club in both receptions and receiving yards in the same season. Watson is one of three (New-some 1981-85 and Milt Morin 1970, 1973) Browns tight ends to lead the club in receiving yards in a single-season and also one of three (Newsome 1981-85 and Kellen Winslow 2006-07) to lead the team in receptions.

The University of Arkansas had three running backs selected in the 2008 NFL Draft. Peyton Hillis (seventh round by Denver) joined fi rst round picks Darren McFadden (Oakland) and Felix Jones (Dallas). While at Arkansas, Hillis helped pave the way as a fullback as McFadden and Jones each topped the 1,000 yard rush-ing mark in 2006 and 2007. Despite being selected more than 200 picks later, Hillis has scored more career NFL rushing touchdowns than both McFadden and Jones.

2011 POSITION-BY-POSITION SYNOPSIS(Returners include players who fi nished 2010 either on the 53-man roster or a reserve list)

Quarterback: Total – 3, Returners – 2 (Coach – Mark Whipple)Colt McCoy, a third-round draft choice in 2010, started eight games as a rookie and guided the Browns to a pair of wins – at New Orleans and against New England. He completed 135 of 222 passes for 1,576 yards with six touchdowns and nine interceptions and set several Browns rookie passing records. Seneca Wallace, acquired in a trade with Seattle during the 2010 offseason, signed a contract extension following last season. He opened four contests a year ago and put together the highest rating among the team’s quarterbacks with a mark of 88.5. He also hit on 63.4 percent of his passes (64-101) while throwing four touchdowns against just two interceptions. He is now in an offense with which he is quite fa-miliar, having played in a West Coast system in Seattle from 2003-09. Thaddeus Lewis is a fi rst-year player who showed fl ashes of promise over the past two preseasons with St. Louis, where his co-ordinator as a rookie with the Rams was Browns Head Coach Pat Shurmur.

Running Back: Total – 4, Returners – 2 (Coach – Gary Brown)Peyton Hillis was one of the biggest surprises in the NFL a year ago, having put together one of the top all-around seasons by a Browns running back. Acquired in an offseason trade with Denver, Hillis rushed for 1,177 yards and 11 touchdowns while also catch-ing 61 passes (477 yards, two touchdowns), a fi gure that ranked fourth among all NFL running backs. He tied for third in the NFL in total touchdowns (13), while his 1,654 total yards from scrim-mage were sixth-most in the league. Montario Hardesty will look to return to the fi eld in 2011 after suffering a season-ending knee injury during the 2010 preseason fi nale. He showed much promise both in his senior season at Tennessee and at many of the team’s offseason camps following the draft. The balance of the position consists of a pair of rookies. Fourth-round draft choice Owen Marecic has taken over the fullback spot in the Browns’ new offensive scheme. Marecic was a two-way player during his col-legiate career at Stanford, as both a fullback and linebacker. In fact, he scored one touchdown at each position within a 13-second span in his senior season against Notre Dame. Armond Smith was an undrafted college free agent out of Union College. He led the team in rushing during the preseason, as he amassed 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 31 attempts (6.2 avg.). His 81-yard scoring scamper against Detroit was the longest in the AFC this preseason.

Wide Receivers: Total – 6, Returners – 4 (Coach – Mike Wilson)Perhaps the position most affected by the team’s implementation of the West Coast offensive is at wide receiver. Two third-year players, Mohamed Massaquoi and Brian Robiskie, will have am-ple opportunities to show what they are capable of in this scheme. Massaquoi has averaged 15.8 yards per reception over his fi rst two NFL seasons, during which time he has totaled 70 catches, 1,107 receiving yards and fi ve touchdowns. Robiskie responded in 2010 with 29 catches for 310 yards and three touchdowns after seeing limited action as a rookie. In fact, over the fi nal six games last sea-son, he totaled 20 receptions for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Rookie second-round draft pick Greg Little has not played football since 2009, but with his combination of size and speed, he could be a perfect fi t for this offense. Joshua Cribbs has proven to be dangerous anytime he gets his hands on the ball, and he will look

to continue his development at the wide receiver position, a spot he fi rst played on the professional level in 2009. Jordan Nor-wood, who originally signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2009, has spent time on the practice squads of the Eagles and Browns the last two seasons, and actually fi nished 2010 on Cleveland’s 53-man roster. With his hands and quickness, he could fi ll the void at slot receiver. Carlton Mitchell, a sixth-round draft choice in 2010, saw spot duty last season but will seek to claim more of a role this year.

Offensive Line: Total – 9, Returners – 5 (Coach – George Warhop)Although just two players who fi nished the 2010 season as starters on the offensive line return this season, both were Pro Bowlers a year ago. This duo is comprised of left tackle Joe Thomas and center Alex Mack. Thomas has been selected to the All-Star Game in each of his four seasons while Mack, a fi rst-round draft choice in 2009, made his initial appearance following last season. Both Thomas and Mack not only have started all 16 games the past two seasons, but each has participated in every offensive snap over this time. Tony Pashos, whom the Browns signed as an unrestricted free agent in 2010, started three games at right tackle last year be-fore an ankle injury sidelined him for the remainder of the year. Shawn Lauvao, who was close to breaking into the starting lineup as a rookie in 2010, will open at the right guard spot. Rookie fi fth-round draft choice Jason Pinkston saw a majority of the work as the fi rst-team left guard during the preseason after back surgery sidelined incumbent Eric Steinbach for the year. The Browns have a combination of veterans and youth backing up the starting fi ve. John Greco, acquired in a trade with St. Louis during the fi rst week of 2011 training camp, also gives the team much-needed fl ex-ibility. Greco, who played for Browns Head Coach Pat Shurmur the last two years in St. Louis, has ability to play both guard and tackle. Steve Vallos has the ability to play both guard and cen-ter, starting a total of eight games at those spots with Seattle from 2008-09. The Browns added a pair of veterans in Artis Hicks and Oniel Cousins towards the end of the preseason slate. Hicks is entering his 10th NFL campaign in 2011 and has started games at each position along the line with the exception of center. He should be familiar with this offense, having played in Philadelphia from 2002-05 and Minnesota from 2006-09. Cousins was a third-round draft choice of the Ravens in 2008 whom the Browns claimed off waivers prior to their preseason fi nale.

Tight End: Total – 4, Returners – 3 (Coach – Steve Hagen)The Browns kept four tight ends throughout the 2010 season, and they will start the year off that way as well. Benjamin Watson had the fi nest season of his seven-year career last year, when he caught 68 passes for 763 yards, fi gures that ranked fi rst and second, respec-tively, among AFC tight ends. Evan Moore continued to showed fl ashes of his receiving prowess in his second NFL season and has a chance to fl ourish in the West Coast scheme. Rookie fourth-round draft choice Jordan Cameron possesses similar traits as Moore and could be an integral part of the offense as a rookie. Alex Smith saw limited playing time with the team in 2010, but has experience playing in a similar offense while with Tampa Bay, where he aver-aged more than 32 receptions and 313 receiving yards over his fi rst four NFL seasons (2005-08).

Defensive Line: Total – 8, Returners – 4 (Coach – Dwaine Board)The defensive line is one of the most revamped units on the squad.

Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals, Week 1, Game 1 -15-

2011 POSITION-BY-POSITION SYNOPSISOf the four starters in the group, two are rookies and a third has never suited up for the Browns in a regular season game. Rookie fi rst-round pick Phil Taylor will plug one of the tackle spots, while second-round selection Jabaal Sheard will line up at right end. Both players were two of the more highly touted players at their respective positions coming out of the draft and both had success-ful collegiate careers. Taylor totaled 107 tackles and 5.5 sacks at both Penn State (2006-07) and Baylor (2009-10). Sheard tallied 142 tackles and 19.5 sacks at Pittsburgh (2007-10), including nine a year ago when he was the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Jayme Mitchell, who will open at left end, was inactive for each of his 12 games as a Brown last year after being acquired in a trade with Minnesota. Mitchell, who re-signed with the team during the unrestricted free agency period, is going into his sixth NFL season and possesses a bevy of athleticism and pass rush abil-ity. Ahtyba Rubin pairs with Taylor to provide the Browns with a stout interior. Rubin started all 16 games for the team last year and led all NFL linemen with 82 total tackles. Marcus Benard, the Browns leading sacker a year ago with 7.5, moves from an out-side linebacker in the old 3-4 defense to an end in the 4-3 scheme. Brian Schaefering saw extended playing time last year, starting nine games and tallying 31 tackles. Scott Paxson registered a pair of sacks this preseason and showed signs of promise after not play-ing in an NFL regular season game each of the last two years. Em-manuel Stephens was awarded off waivers to the Browns from Atlanta the day following the cut to 53 players.

Linebackers: Total – 6, Returners – 5 (Coach – Bill Davis)The starting unit is veteran-laden, with all three starters having opened a minimum of 48 NFL games. Despite the Browns’ switch to a 4-3 defense, several players at this position have extensive experience playing in this scheme. Strongside linebacker Scott Fujita has started 112 games in his NFL career, and is one of the key leaders on the defensive side of the ball. He ranked second on the team in tackles last year (51) before being sidelined for the fi nal seven games of the year with a knee injury. Chris Gocong, acquired in a 2010 trade with Philadelphia, opens at the weakside spot. He started all 16 games for the fi rst time in his career last year and responded with 74 tackles, while tying a career-high with two sacks. He missed the entire 2011 preseason schedule while recov-ering from a stinger. D’Qwell Jackson will look to return after missing all of last year with a pectoral injury, the second straight season in which he sustained such an injury. Despite being limited to six games over the last two years, Jackson was a key cog in the Browns’ defense in his fi rst three NFL seasons (2006-08), as he surpassed the 100-tackle plateau each time, including a career-high 188 in 2008. Titus Brown and Kaluka Maiava provide depth at the position. Maiava started three games as a rookie in 2009 when he collected 40 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He missed all but the fi rst two contests of last year with a knee injury. He opened all four preseason games this year in place of Gocong. Quinton Spears was awarded off waivers from Miami following the fi nal cut to 53 players. He had signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent following a highly successful collegiate career at Prairie View A&M.

Defensive Backs: Total – 10, Returners – 5 (Coach – Jerome Henderson)A pair of 2010 rookies in cornerback Joe Haden (1st round) and strong safety T.J. Ward (2nd round) provided the impetus for a

much-improved secondary last year. Both players were consensus all-rookie selections. Despite not starting in the base package until midway through the season, Haden led the team with six intercep-tions and 18 passes defensed. His interception total also ranked second among all NFL rookies last year. Ward was an imposing presence in the defensive backfi eld, as he collected a team-high 105 tackles, a fi gure which led all NFL rookies. He added a pair of interceptions and 10 passes defensed. Ten-year veteran cornerback Sheldon Brown, acquired in an offseason trade with Philadelphia, not only provided a solid mentor for the two rookies, but also dis-played much-needed coverage ability, as he recorded 63 tackles, two interceptions and 10 passes defensed. Mike Adams opens the 2011 season as the starting free safety. An eight-year NFL veteran, Adams’ versatility has been a major asset, as he possesses the abil-ity to play both safety and cornerback, as he did last year when he posted 34 tackles, two interceptions and a sack. Unrestricted free agent Usama Young (New Orleans) started three games for the Saints a year ago and was a key component on their Super Bowl team from two years ago. Another unrestricted free agent signee, Dimitri Patterson (Philadelphia), appears poised to man the nickel spot in the Browns’ defense. Last year with the Eagles, he started nine games and recorded career-high fi gures of 44 tackles, four in-terceptions (one touchdown) and a sack. Rookie cornerback Bust-er Skrine (5th round) looks like he will have a chance to contribute in 2011. Skrine, out of Tennessee—Chattanooga, was one of the fastest players coming out of the draft. Ray Ventrone, primarily a special teams player throughout his NFL career, saw extended action at strong safety this preseason in place of the injured Ward and responded with 12 tackles, a fi gure which ranked second on the team. Undrafted free agent cornerback James Dockery was one of the pleasant rookie surprises in camp this year as he exhibited steady coverage skills. Rookie seventh-round selection Eric Hagg missed the entire preseason with a knee injury. He was a fi rst-team All-Big 12 Conference selection a year ago when he picked off fi ve passes.

Special Teams (Coach – Chris Tabor)Kicker Phil Dawson returns for his 13th season after setting the club’s all-time record for fi eld goals last year. In the process, he added two more game-winning fi eld goals to his impressive NFL resume, which includes 14 such kicks in his career. He has con-verted 83.2 percent of his career fi eld goal attempts, placing him in the top 10 all-time in NFL annals. Reggie Hodges, who was among the AFC punting leaders last year, was lost for the season with a torn left Achilles’ tendon that he sustained in the fi rst few days of training camp. Richmond McGee, who has yet to punt in an NFL regular season game, is coming off a highly successful preseason in which he compiled a gross average of 46.3 on 22 punts with a net of 43.2. He placed fi ve kicks inside the 20 with no touchbacks. Joshua Cribbs is among the league’s all-time best returners, hav-ing accounted for 10 total returns for scores, including eight via kickoffs, an NFL record. The Browns’ coverage units were among the best in the NFL a year ago. They led the league by allowing a 17.8-yard average on kickoffs, and were fi fth after yielding a 7.1-yard mark on punts. T.J. Ward (18 tackles), Mike Adams (12 tackles), Titus Brown (11 tackles), Ray Ventrone (9 tackles) and Joe Haden (8 tackles) were among the key contributors on these units who return this season. Ryan Pontbriand, a two-time Pro Bowler, has been a mainstay as the team’s long-snapper since 2003.

PAT SHURMUR SAID...

(On what he feels his accomplishments have been through four preseason games)- “I think when we get ready for the season now, we have a full week. We have a couple more op-portunities to practice. We have to go out there with a focus on beating the Cincinnati Bengals with the guys we have on this roster that are healthy and ready to play. That’s where we’re at globally. As we develop through the year, we have to make sure we continue to improve every practice and ev-ery game. We need to fi ght tooth and nail to win as many games as possible. That’s where we are at. The preseason schedule is over. I said this before – once you’ve played a preseason game, and once you go and start to evaluate it, it was just another practice opportunity to get your team better. Good and bad, you fi nd out about your team when they go out there and play. That’s what you’re trying to do, as you put all this information together and put this team together.”

(On how his coach-quarterback relationship with Colt McCoy has grown the last few weeks)- “I think it’s natural. I think we have a relationship where we work together well. The reason I say that is we’ve been teaching him things and he’s been doing it. When he has a mistake, he quickly knows it and we’re able to talk about it. That’s really what you want. It’s not anything more than that. It’s a working rela-tionship and he’s bought in and I feel like it’s been good.”

(On the preseason concluding the next game being for real)- “Again, they’ve all been for real, but the fi rst regular season game, I think there’s an intensity that’s probably a little bit different. You go into the preseason games trying to see specifi c things and seeing players compete. Even though the score might be close, you’re slated to put the next group in. Where in this game you play it to watch your guys com-pete, be effi cient and play it to do what you can to win it by one point. That becomes the focus.”

(On Joe Haden)- “He’s a fun guy to be around because he loves to play and can run all day. He’s good in coverage and he challenges. He’s a fun guy to coach for all those reasons. It’s very rare, you look at a guy and it’s hot and they’re tired, and he’s out here smiling, joking and playing fast. I can ap-preciate that from him.”

(On Evan Moore’s contract extension)- “He’s displayed himself as a playmaker at the tight end position. We made the decision that we wanted to try and extend him and we got that done. Much like we did with Joe Thomas, we’re glad that he’s going to be here for an extended period of time.”

(On if he’s geared up more for this game)- “Trust me, we’re geared up. I’ve been trying to do a good job of con-trolling my emotions. A few times during the games, I’ll let it go a little bit. That’s really not for effect, that’s real. I’m looking forward to it and I think it will be an exciting time. Again, when we opened camp I said it, practicing, playing and coaching, that’s what we do as coaches and players. It’s going to be fun to take this unit into a regular season game.”

(On how long it took for him to realize that Peyton Hillis fi ts what he wanted for a running back)- “It doesn’t take many snaps to see that he’s a terrifi c runner. He’s also a physical blocker just by his shear physique. I think he does a good job of catching the ball. It didn’t take long. He’s one of the guys last year that got a lot of touches a year ago so it was easy to see him perform.”

(On how the top two picks Phil Taylor and Jabaal Sheard are doing)- “We drafted them and we expected them to be good players, but we do realize they’re rookies. I feel like they’ve held up pretty well. Much has been made about no two-a-days during training camp, but the rigors of training camp are still there with the longer practice in the morning. I think they’ve held up fairly well. I still think they’re in a mode where they need to improve continually and I’ll say that probably throughout this year, next off season and into next training camp. There has to be that type of improve-ment. I think when you look at those guys and defensive linemen, you want to see explosive plays, you want to see sack-fumbles, but then you’re also looking for consistent hard play down-to-down. That’s what I look for.”

(On choosing Dick Jauron as his defensive coordinator)- “First, I knew he had the experience and expertise to be the defensive coordinator. That’s number one, so put that aside, he’s got what it takes to do that. Aside from being a terrifi c coach, he’s even a fi ner person. I admire him from what he did as a player. I’ve always admired him as a teacher and a coach. The people that have worked with him or played for him, it’s very hard to fi nd someone who will say something negative about Dick. Aside from that, I like the way he goes about his business. He keeps his composure. Defensive guys, mentally sometimes the players they’re all over the place, it’s just the nature of the position. To have a steady force there in the position of leadership I think is very impor-tant. I think he blends well.

BROWNS PLAYER QUOTESRB Peyton Hillis(On coach Shurmur believing in the running game al-ready)- “You know it’s great because coach Shurmur is a great man, good coach and defi nitely a player’s coach. We respond really well to him and just because he says that doesn’t mean anything to us. I know me and the offensive line are really focusing on this running game. We always have to. We are in the toughest division in the NFL, so we will take that standpoint and we have to work ahead and do the best we can.”

QB Colt McCoy(On if it is nice that the head coach is also the player caller on offense)- “Yeah, it’s nice. It’s nice to have your head coach as an offensive guy too. You spend more time with him you know what he wants, and know what he is looking for. He kind of puts a lot on you. For me, I like that and I think like I said as we start game planning, we will re-ally get a feel for each other. In practice coach Whipple has been calling the plays through the headset or on the sideline reading off the script. In the games, coach Shurmur calls the plays through my headphones, so that’s a little bit different. I think we just have to continue to get a feel for each other, but, everything has been great so far.”

(On his chemistry with Evan Moore)- “It’s been good. He’s a big target. He is a guy that can do a lot of different things. You can spread him out wide or he can get down with his hand in the dirt and block. I think him, Alex (Smith) and Ben (Watson) have had tremendous camps. They have all worked really hard. They all kind of know their things. To have Evan adds an extra dimension to our offense and I am excited that he is going to be here for a while.”

Evan Moore(On how it feels to get a contract extension and to know that he will be around for a while)- “Just like you’d think, it feels really good. It honestly seems like yesterday I was sitting at home going undrafted wondering if I was going to get a shot to play in this league. About a year after that, leav-ing Green Bay and wondering the same thing, who is going to give me my next chance. It is truly a blessing to be here talking about this today, a lot of hard work, and good will in my direction. I am very excited about it and happy for my family that gets to experience it as well.”

(On signing the extension instead of testing free agency)- “I think it’s the best thing for me at this point. I feel very comfortable here. I like playing for coach Shurmur, I like my teammates, I like this organization. I felt like this was the best time to get something done.”

(On the personality of the offense)- “I think we’re going to run the ball just as well as we did last year, and we’re going to throw the ball better than we did last year. I think we’ll have a really balanced attack to be honest.”

DT Phil Taylor(On if he has been working on using his hands more in moves)- “You have to use your hands a lot more at this level. In college you can get by with just bull rushing a guy and things like that. At this level, guys have more technique so you have to use your hands better.”

(On defensive linemen not getting a lot of tackles but still playing well)- “If I am drawing a double team on every play and not getting tackles, then the linebackers should be mak-ing all the tackles. A good game for me is to just going out there and doing whatever I need to do for the team.”

OL Joe Thomas(On his contract extension and wanting to be on a win-ning team)- “Being on a winning team is obviously extreme-ly important for me. The things that I have seen here in the last couple years, the type of coaches that we are bringing in here, the type of players we are bringing in, the staff that we put together, it’s really exciting for me to see the direction that this franchise is headed. That was the main reason that I wanted to stay here, that I wanted to sign a long term exten-sion and continue to work on this journey.”

(On the direction of the offense)- “I think it’s awesome. We have only been together for four weeks, not even what a normal off season would be and I am already seeing great strides. The players that we’ve got on offense are young, but you can see their potential. The way Colt (McCoy) has been playing, the way he leads this offense. It’s just exciting to be around.”

(On feeling a greater responsibility toward helping the younger guys)- “I have always felt kind of a leadership role over the last few years here on offense. That’s only going to continue and grow as I get older and as the players seem to get younger. That’s the way it’s going to be moving forward. I kind of relish in that challenge because now I am not only talking to the young offensive linemen, I am talking to the younger receivers, young tight ends, guys we have trying to impart any wisdom I have on them and try to do everything I can to help them get better so that we can win as an offense and as a team.”

Quarterback Colt McCoy became the fi rst Brown to throw for three touchdown passes in a single-preseason game since 1984, but it wasn’t enough as the Lions topped the Browns 30-28. In the fi rst quarter, Browns tight end Evan Moore recorded the fi rst of his two touchdown receptions after a turnover gave Cleveland the ball at the 34 yard line. Detroit responded with an 80-yard drive ending with a four-yard pass from quarterback Matthew Stafford to wide receiver Nate Burleson. The Lions later took the lead after a 25-yard fi eld goal by kicker Jason Hanson. After a 20 yard punt return by Jordan Norwood, McCoy found Moore on a 21-yard touchdown passes on the following play. The Lions added a fi eld late in the second quarter. Running back Armond Smith broke free for an 81-yard run in the third quarter to put the Browns up. 28-13. A pair of fumbles would led to two Lions touchdowns, and Detroit would add three more in the fourth quarter to account for the game’s fi nal score.

August 25, 2011Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pa.

The Eagles turned three Browns turnovers into 17 points as the Eagles topped the Browns 24-14 in Philadelphia. A strip-sack by defensive lineman Phil Taylor gave the Browns the ball at the Eagles’ 18-yard line in the fi rst quarter but Philadelphia would eventually block a 33-yard fi eld goal attempt by Phil Dawson. A fumbled punt return by Cleveland would give the Eagles the ball at the 13-yard line and two plays later Eagles running back Ronnie Brown scampered 13 yards into the end zone. A Philadelphia interception would lead to three more points and a 10 play, 77 yard drive capped off by an eight-yard touchdown run by Michael Vick would put the Eagles up 17-0 in the fi rst half. Another turnover during a Browns punt return gave Philadelphia good fi eld position, which resulted in a 10-yard touchdown run by Vince Young. The Browns mounted two fourth quarter touchdown drives but it wasn’t enough as the Eagles came away with the victory.
