9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL

9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL, with music and lyrics by multiple Grammy award- winning songwriter Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the 1980 hit movie of the same name. The musical premiered at Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles in 2008 and won two Los Angeles Dra-ma Critics Circle Awards. Subsequently opening on Broadway in 2009, the show was nominated for fifteen Drama Desk Awards, the most received by a produc-tion in a single year, as well four Tony Awards. In 2010, the musical’s American national tour kicked off, followed by a United Kingdom tour in 2012 still ongoing.

CAST BIOGRAPHIES (in alphabetical order)

Gray Bobbitt (Dwayne) has been acting for the past five years with several companies in the area including Fly-By-Night Co. (Greensboro) and The Hot Flash Players of Lexington. He is currently working to complete his AFA in Pre-Drama at GTCC and intends to graduate this spring and transfer in the fall. He is glad to be working at the Fine Arts Theatre again and would like to thank all those who have supported him.

Morgan Chandler (Doralee) is a transfer student at GTCC and plans on get-ting her BFA in musical theatre. She has performed in musicals in the Triad and in high school. She is excited to be in her first production at GTCC and show off her southern roots as the Dolly Parton “like” character, Doralee. Most recently she was seen as Anna in SPRING AWAKENING. She would like to thank her family and friends for all of their continuous love and support.

Yansa Crosby (Judy) has been on the stage since she was a little girl and doesn’t plan on stopping anytime soon. She was last seen as Ilse in SPRING AWAKENING at Winston Salem Theatre Alliance. She hopes to one day be a high school drama teacher so she can inspire and spread the love of live theatre. 9 TO 5 has been an experience like no other and she’s had a stellar time getting to know this inspiring cast. She would like to thank her friends and family for all their love and support.

Rachel Heller (Missy/Detective/Ensemble) is excited to be in her first per-formance at GTCC. Currently a student at UNCG, she participated in theatre at Northern Guilford High School and Brightest Star at Buffalo, a musical the-atre camp. Some of her favorite roles include Tracy Turnblad in HAIRSPRAY, Ms. Hannigan in ANNIE, and Millie in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE. She hopes to continue participating in theatre productions in the future.

Faith Howell (Violet) is thrilled to be playing a character as wonderful as Violet. When she’s not “working 9 to 5” she’s teaching sixth graders language arts and social studies in Graham. Theater credits include Sister Mary Amnesia in NUN-SENSE (Gallery Players), Meg in LITTLE WOMEN: THE MUSICAL (Open Space Café Theatre), and Hot Box Girl in GUYS AND DOLLS (Gallery Players). She would like to thank her family, friends and students for all their support and love.

Thomas Marvin (Josh/New Employee/Ensemble) is a GTCC Artist Management Program student. Last year he was proud to appear in two GTCC Theatre pro-ductions, THE GLASS MENAGERIE and A MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN. A former student of the GTCC Theatre Program (graduating with his AFA in 2008), he is delighted to be part of GTCC’s first musical.

CAST BIOGRAPHIES (continued)

Nolan Morgenstern (Dick/Tinsworth/Ensemble) is excited to make his acting debut in GTCC’s first musical production. Nolan is a first year GTCC student and plans to transfer to a university upon completion of his second year. He en-joys playing basketball in his downtime and his favorite actor is Robert De Niro. He would like to thank his family and cast for their support!

Heather Newberry (Maria/Doctor/Ensemble) is excited to be acting on the GTCC Fine Arts Theatre stage for the first time. She is a sixth grade math/science teacher at Graham Middle School and heads up their theatre program. Heather has been acting since high school and recently appeared on stage for The Gallery Players in LEND ME A TENOR and GUYS AND DOLLS. She serves as a board member of The Gallery Players.

Carlos Nieto (Joe/Ensemble) performs regularly in community theatres in the Triad. He was last seen as Perchik in Twin City’s Production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF. Recent roles include Earnest in SPRING AWAKENING with Winston- Salem’s Theatre Alliance and The King in the KING AND I with City Arts of Greensboro. He thanks his parents and friends for all their support!

Brittany Petruzzi (Margaret/Candy Striper/Ensemble) is freelance jack-of-all-theatre-trades, having worked locally as a scenic artist, carpenter, props mas-ter, marketing associate, and actress (PIPPIN, AN IDEAL HUSBAND, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND ALL THAT JAZZ at City 616). She also founded and ran a student theatre company during her tenure at her alma mater, New Saint An-drews College. If you’re ever in Idaho, be sure to look up Blue Milk Productions!

Sherrod Siler, Jr. (Assistant Choreographer/Bob/Ensemble) is originally from Greensboro. He was inspired by his sister (Sherena Osha Siler) to be an actor after seeing her on stage. At the age of five he starred in his first play, THE GINGER BREAD MAN, and went on to perform in THE WIZ (Scarecrow), FAME (Leroy), THE WISE MEN (Balthazar), and more. He plans to transfer to Howard University to earn a degree in musical theatre and communications.

Margaret G. Spencer (Kathy/Ensemble) is a singer/songwriter and is currently a General Education transfer student at GTCC, soon to commence work at a four-year university. She is delighted to make her acting debut in GTCC’s production of 9 TO 5. She would like to thank the cast, crew, directors, and man-agers, and send love to her family and friends who support her unconditionally. Big kiss, Applebaum.

Brianna Witherspoon (Roz) is a freshman at GTCC. She previously per-formed in CURTAINS at Lees McRae College and has been in a number of shows that her church has produced. This is her first lead role in a musical and she is thrilled! She would like to thank her directors Giuseppe Ritorto and Tiffa-ny Hogan for this opportunity, and also give thanks to God and her family for believing in her.

Lewis Woods (Hart) is very excited to take part in his first GTCC show. A current GTCC student, he plans to transfer to a four-year college in the fall. He has performed in various shows including AS YOU LIKE IT (Charles the Wrest-ler), CHILDREN OF EDEN (Abel/Ham), Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Beast), and WILLY WONKA (Grandpa George). Lewis thanks his family and friends for all their support.

ARTISTIC PRODUCTION STAFF BIOGRAPHIES

Giuseppe Ritorto (Director) was most recently seen as Scrooge in American Family Theatre’s National Tour of A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Other regional credits include Beadle Bamford in SWEENEY TODD, Mike in A LIE OF THE MIND, Pan-cho in CITY OF ANGELS, and Horton in SEUSSICAL: THE MUSICAL. Giuseppe has also served as Musical Director at Catawba College as well as The Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA. Being a true “swiss army knife” of theatre, he has also worked professionally as a technical director, lighting and set designer and com-poser. He received his BA in Theatre Arts from Catawba College and his MFA in Musical Theatre from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. He cur-rently is a theatre faculty member at GTCC.

June Guralnick (Producer) is GTCC’s Theatre Program Director since 2011. A native New Yorker, she is the author of 11 full-length dramas and has directed classic and new works for the past 30 years. June’s plays have been performed at venues including the Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), New Federal Theatre (NY), Southern Appalachian Repertory Theatre (NC), and the North Carolina Museum of Art. June received her BA in Theatre and Political Science from the State University of New York at Buffalo and her master’s degree from City Col-lege of New York. She is delighted that the Theatre Program is presenting 9 TO 5, their first large musical! She thanks everyone for their amazing work bringing the show to the Fine Arts Theatre!

Chris Tilley (Musical Director/Pianist) is a freelance pianist & music director. He has worked professionally in New York and regional theatres. Locally, he recently served as music director for KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN and VIOLET at Win-ston Salem Theatre Alliance and for FOLLIES at Open Space. As a playwright/composer/lyricist, produced works include SILENT PICTURES (with Tommy Trull), ZOMBIE DINER and POSSUM PLAY. His shows PEGGY and ALICE-LAND were presented at GTCC as part of the New Play Workshops.

Tiffany Hogan (Choreographer/Assistant Director) is excited to be making her choreography debut at GTCC where she started her theatre career. She graduat-ed from Catawba College where she assistant directed UNCOMMON WOMEN and co-directed THE WILD PARTY. In New York she directed for the Rising Sun Performance Company. She would like to thank June and the cast and crew for all of their hard work.

Cory Johnson (Scenic Designer) was trained in theatre craft in Michigan. After freelance work and teaching, she left for the much warmer state of North Caro-lina. Once here she worked with Muse Scenic Studios to paint backdrops. Cory is also a member of Winston Salem’s local IATSE chapter and works as a stagehand on many shows. When not working on theatre projects, she goes rock climbing. This is her first scenic design with GTCC and it has been a pleasure!

Jennifer Ackland (Costume Designer) is the Costume Shop Manager at The North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and Festival Stage of Winston-Salem. She at-tended Appalachian State University where she received a BA in Costume Design and Technology. Recent designs for GTCC include: A MOON FOR THE MISBE-GOTTEN and THE GLASS MENAGERIE. Other designs include: A CHRISTMAS CAROL, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM and MACBETH for NC Shakes as well as OIL CITY SYMPHONY for Festival Stage of Winston-Salem. She is glad to be back with GTCC for another fantastic production!

Dwayne Walls (Production Manager) returned to NC after many years in New York where he worked in television (including Saturday Night Live and the Today Show), theatre (Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Lyceum), and film. Recently, he has been working with the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and Carolina Ballet, as well as the National Black Theatre Festival, film production, and set de-sign and construction for television. He previously served as Production Manager on GTCC’s 2011-2013 productions.

Patty Adkins (Production Stage Manager/Lighting Designer) received her BA in Technical Theatre from Catawba College in 2009, and her AFA in Pre-Drama from GTCC in 2007. Since 2009 she has worked with various theatre companies throughout the Triad as director, stage manager, and lighting designer, and is cur-rently the Managing Director and Production Manager for Fly-By-Night Theatre Co. Most recently she served as lighting designer for GTCC’s productions of THE GLASS MENAGERIE and DANCING IN THE END ZONE.

Matthew Ishee (Technical Director/Co-Lighting Designer) is excited to return to GTCC Fine Arts Theatre for 9 TO 5. He debuted with the theatre in DANCING IN THE END ZONE, playing the role of Coach Biehn while also serving as the assistant lighting designer and master electrician. He has worked as a stage man-ager and lighting engineer for the Eastern Music Festival and a stage manager for William and Mary Symphony Orchestra. Matthew would like to thank his family and friends for putting up with his crazy hours throughout the semester!

Brittany Blackburn (Stage Manager) started her pursuit of theatre at GTCC and received her BA in Theatre from Kean University in 2008. Her technical credits include stage manager for HAMLET at Kean and Assistant Stage Manager for HELL HOLE HONEYS at the TRU Voices New Musical Readings. She has directed THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES and assisted with the direction and production of a new, one-woman poetry show, TV DADDY. Brittany is excited to be back in the world of theatre and at GTCC working with old friends and new faces.

Karl Goetz (Sound Designer/Engineer/Board Operator) first began working as an actor and stage-hand with Oklahoma Shakespeare in the Park at age 14. Awarded a full tuition theatre/honors scholarship, Karl graduated with his BS in Theatre from Greensboro College. He has worked as an actor and a technician in a vari-ety of theatre productions/independent films in the Southeast, while his enduring passion for performing his own musical compositions led, in early 2010, to begin working with the exceptional Entertainment Technology faculty at GTCC. His compositions have been featured in multiple world premier stage productions as well as the Sundance Film Festival.

Allie Arpajian (Vocal Coach) holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Delaware. A soprano, she has performed many leading operatic roles including Nancy in ALBERT HERRING, Julie in FIREBIRD MOTEL and La Ciesca in GIANNI SCHICCHI. Alexandra has studied piano since age four and percussion since age eight, proving that singers can count! New to North Carolina, she is currently working as a fitness professional and voice teacher in the area.

Linden Butterfield (Assistant Stage Manager) is a theatre major at GTCC. Af-ter spending time on stage an an actress, she is excited to be working behind the scenes. This is her second foray into stage management, previously stage manag-ing GTCC’s production of DANCING IN THE END ZONE. She is excited to be part of GTCC’s first musical!

Gwen Poole (Props Master), a GTCC theatre major graduating in the spring, enjoys many aspects of the theatre from writing to directing. She serves as the Drama Coordinator at her church where she works with children, youth and adults. Gwen is a member of the Greensboro Playwrights Forum and has recently directed for their Evening of Shorts, as well as having one of her short plays pro-duced at the Greensboro Drama Center.

Nikki Tomeo (Assistant Props Master) is a GTCC General Education major graduating in the spring. She previously was involved with theatre productions at Ragsdale High School. Nikki is delighted to volunteer with 9 TO 5 because she loves the show and wants to be involved in theatre again!

Danielle Samuels (House Manager) is originally from Wilmington. She is excited to be working with the production, learning about theatre.
