The staff and I invite you to attend our Warrior Pride Night on March 19, 2019. This evening is dedicated to sharing the amazing things that are happening at Alta Loma Junior High School. The evening begins at 5:45 with a presentation in the amphitheater. Classes will be open for visits starting at 6:00 pm. The evening promises to be a time to view the great work that our students are producing. We look forward to seeing you on March 19 th . This has been another outstanding year with our partnership with PTSA. I would like to take a moment to thank PTSA for their generosity of time, support, and leadership. PTSA supports many activities and we appreciate their dedication to the enrichment of our programs for students. We have exceeded every fundraising opportunity that was initiated this year. We thank all of our members for their continued support of our school. Please take note of the important dates included in this newsletter that will impact both our 7th and 8th grade students. We are preparing our 8th graders for their next step which is high school and getting our 7th grade students thinking about the offerings available for them in 8th grade. We are also welcoming our 6th grade students coming from our feeder schools. March is a very busy month. As we begin this final trimester, we expect students to make it their best yet! Eighth grade students in particular need to be concerned regarding grades and promotion. Students must maintain a 1.6 GPA and cannot receive an F grade in the final trimester to participate in end of the year activities. Please make every effort to check grades on Illuminate to ensure your student is on track for a strong finish. We ask that you continue to encourage your child to set goals for themselves and to strive to achieve their personal best. We believe that ALJH is an outstanding school with an incredible staff, hardworking students, and dedicated parents. We thank you for your continued support. REPORT CARDS Second trimester final Report Cards will be sent home with students on Friday, March 1st. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to call the school office.

RESTRICTED LIST: Students are placed on the Restricted List as a result of receiving an “F” on a grade report, or two or more citizenship marks of “N” or “U” on the grade report. Placement on the Restricted List keeps students from participating in extracurricular activities.

HEALTH OFFICE REMINDERS Immunization Requirements: Parents of entering 7th grade students must provide proof of immunization, including the requirement of 3 doses of Hepatitis B vaccine and 2 doses of MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccine. In addition, ALL students must provide proof that they received the whooping cough (Tdap) booster vaccine. Children who received a dose of Tdap on or after their 7th birthday will be considered to have met the new school requirement. However, CDPH recommends that children receive Tdap on or after their 10th birthday to provide better protection throughout their adolescent years.

If your incoming 7th OR 8th grade student is not in compliance, he/she will not be permitted to begin classes in August 2019.

Medicine on Campus: Students may not be in

possession of medicine on campus. This includes Ritalin, Aspirin, Midol, etc. Medications constitute controlled substances and are not permitted at school. Parents may bring medicine (with the completed doctor’s form) to the Health Office to be dispensed to the student as required. This also includes over-the-counter medications!

2018-2019 YEARBOOKS: Yearbooks are on sale now; buy yours today! Price is $50. Yearbooks may be purchased through Jostens at Jostens.com. Don’t wait and be left out at the end of the year!

CJSF is an honor society that is recognized by high schools and colleges across the country. By continuing to earn good grades, students can earn Honor Status which rewards them with a special certificate, a medallion to wear to promotion and their name in the promotion program designating them as an Honor member. Students can qualify each trimester of junior high using their final trimester grades. The application time period runs the first two weeks of each trimester. No applications will be taken after the application window has closed. To qualify, students must earn 8 points in their 4 core classes and pay $2 dues. A=3 points B=1 point C=0 points. Students may not have any D’s, F’s, N’s, or U’s in any class. To earn the Honor status, a student must qualify at least 2 times using 7th grade grades, and at least 2 times using 8th grade grades. Students will receive a member card each trimester that they qualify. The application window is now open for 7th and 8th grade students using their 2nd trimester grades. The application window will close on Friday, March 15th and the dues are $2. No late applications will be accepted. Students can pick up and drop off their applications to the table on the stage at lunch. Applications are not available in the office.

A-Team A-Team applications for second trimester are available beginning March 4th. Students must apply each trimester to be eligible. Applications are available at the student window through Friday, March 15th.

8th GRADE PARTY

8th grade students are invited to attend a party in their honor on Friday, May 17th. This is the only evening party (5-8 P.M.) held during their junior high years. Parents and families of these students plan the party and assume complete responsibility for its success. If you would like to be involved in choosing a theme, making decorations, providing refreshments, chaperoning, etc., contact Amanda Brady at (909) 331-7914 or email at [email protected].

8th Grade students will be given a packet soon detailing the 8th grade end of year activities. Please note that checks are accepted only through April 5th. After April 5th, payment must be in cash or money orders only. For convenience, parents may combine all activities on one check.
