Summary There Aesland hunting property located east of highway 45 is comprised of over 4,000 Ac. While good hunting opportunities exist, much of the property consists of large planted fields or open cattle pastures with relatively little food and cover to attract and hold deer after crops are harvested. In comparison to the property west of highway 45, most of this property is planted cropland (exceptions include the thickett behing the gas plant). Three areas where the hunting and huntability of these properties could be improved are related to food, cover, and accessibility. Food plots, and enhancement of natural food sources, can be used to either hold deer or to attract them from other areas of cover onto our property to feed. In most cases, food plots will need to be planted once crops are off of the field and not planted too densely to interefere with farming practices. Cover could be improved by maintaining existing areas of thickets and cover and designating some of these as sanctuaries. Also, borders of pastures and croplands could be allowed to grow, particularly along fences and creek bottoms, to either improve cover or to provide transport lanes for deer movement. Selected areas could be left uncut (such as during alternate years) to provide lanes for deer transport as well. Additional improvements include improving access, additon of shooting houses, selecting clearing, and other enhancements to improve hunting as described for each property.

400  40 3 2   General Comments  Nearly all pasture except for 40 Ac thicket and a few pockets of trees. This thicket could be very

productive, but needs work to improve access and huntability. Access is limited to either coming from Homestead road or going in through the gas plant and then

climbing the fence (ladder provided but no vehicle access). Access from Homestead requires going through several gates (which cattle turn into a real mess particularly in wet weather) and there is a single relatively steep creek crossing.

Clearing/Improvements  Improve gate in the SE corner to allow access from the gas plan and bushhog the NE and SE fence line Bulldoze shooting lanes into the cutover, starting from the N side. Note, the cutover is bisected by several

creeks but there is a old road that could be restored.
