Page 2: A2 Media Evaluation - Question 1

The ways in which my music video challenges others is, I use a wide range of shots for example, long shot, mid shot, close up and wide shot.

This makes it different throughout my music video. My editing makes it different as it isn’t the same the whole way through I use different effects to portray different moods or emotions. For example the blurred effect portrays mixed emotions. My characters in my music video signify the meaning to the song which is about a break up between a couple. The setting in where my video was based is the to convey the idea that its an open space to clear their head and let out the mixed emotions. Towards the end of the video I used less blurred effect to portray the idea of both of the characters emotions have been cleared.

The blurred shots portrays mixed emotions.

This wide shot is the to portray this character feels he is on his own and has a sense of regret about the break up.

The ways in which my music video is different to others is that the emotions and story is put across through is with my effects and editing. Other music videos do this through their characters in the facial expressions, however my characters have no facial expressions at all. They stay the same throughout, at the beginning the characters were blurred to convey mixed emotions and feeing about the break up. Towards the end of the video the video is focused this is to show that the characters have got their heads round the situation and stop looking down at the floor.

These two shots are to break down the video

Looking at my music video and having compared it to similar ones it isn’t unique as I expected it to be. As many other music videos of the same genre have the same break up story and use similar effects as I have to portray it, the blurred effect is very popular as it can mean so many different things. The different use of shots is unique as it isn’t the same sort of shot throughout the video is varies. The pastel blur effect I used to was to portray is looks all nice from an outsiders point of view but behind the effect there is pain from the characters, however in many other music videos the editor uses effects such as black and white or dark colours to portray pain.

This shot is similar and both characters are portraying the same thing, heart ache.
