Tis the season, where the Sunday Morning Paper is jam-packed with
advertisements for the “Best Gift Ideas of the Season”, or the “One Stop
Shop” for all your gifting needs. The local retailers also have the perfect
things to wrap those gifts in; brightly colored wrapping paper and sparkly
bows in every color to match your Christmas Tree Décor. We are inundated
with finding the perfect gift for our loved ones this season. We make our lists
and check it twice, and still think that it just isn’t enough.
Then comes December 25 and we are gently reminded that everything
is wrapped carefully, even the first Christmas was wrapped in care. Luke
2:12 “This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in clothes and
lying in a manger.” There in the manger, basic needs were fulfilled: our sav-
ior wrapped in love. The simple act of wrapping your gifts has stemmed
from more than the act of surprise but from the gentleness of love of a parent
that has wrapped her child in a warm bed. Wrap your heart with the grace and the love that Jesus (the
reason for the season) has given us, for it is only then when we have Christmas in our Hearts, that
what’s under the tree doesn’t matter.
So may this Christmas Season for your “wish-list”, you ask your heavenly daddy for the best
gift of all. He will come baring it in the most beautiful package you could ever imagine!
Merry Christmas!

Dear Church Family,
The season of Advent (which literally means
“arrival”) has been observed for centuries by Christians as a
time to consider the meaning of Christ coming into the
world and to prepare for the celebration of his birth. Most
people today are unaware of the meaning of Advent, assum-
ing “preparing for Christmas” involves shopping, baking
and making travel plans. This makes it all the more im-
portant that you and I rediscover Advent as a season of per-
sonal preparedness for the arrival of Jesus, the Christ.
The love of God that descended to Bethlehem in the
form of his Son is not only a matter of glad tidings but is the
all-powerful, all-loving grace of God that transforms lives.
This grace reveals our sin and overcomes it, and this grace
conquers darkness and brings light to the world. Such
transforming grace can never be achieved by human effort
but only by divine intervention.
We celebrate the Advent of the Christ with the four
Sundays of Advent, the first of which is November 29.
These Sundays will feature special readings and the lighting
of our Christmas wreath, and the Advent Sermon Series will
explore the four main themes of preparing ourselves for
Christ’s coming: Christ’s Hope, Christ’s Peace, Christ’s
Love, and Christ’s Joy. As we make available throughout
the year, the sermons will be accompanied by the Daily Bi-
ble Reading Plan and Devotional. I invite you to daily
reading and thoughtful meditation on God’s Word during
the Advent Season.
On Christmas Eve we will offer three services. The early service at 4:00pm is
structured especially for families with children who want to come to church together.
Special music and an expanded Young Disciples Time will help those who are younger
among us enjoy this special night. The 7:00pm Christmas Eve service will feature many
of our beloved Christmas Carols and music from our Choir, and will include the passing
of the Christ light. At 11:00pm on Christmas Eve we will celebrate with a quieter service
of Special Music, Candlelight and Communion.
Lastly, let me remind you that there are many in our community who will be look-
ing for a church to attend during the Christmas season. However, many “un-churched”
people believe that church is like a club and you really shouldn’t show up unless you are a
member. Please invite your friends and neighbors who don’t have a church home, or
whose church does not offer a Christmas Eve Service, to come with you to our church.
And let them know that they will be warmly welcomed!
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Steve www.congopres.org 3
Join us for Worship 9:00am Contemporary Service
This worship offers a relaxed way to praise our Lord. Our talented Song Team leads our music. Children’s Church is available for kids entering Preschool thru 5th grade(kids excused after young disciples). Come as you are and worship in a casual atmosphere.
10:15am All-Church Fellowship Join us for coffee and cookies to catch-up with each other’s lives. This sense of com-munity is vital in the Church atmosphere, as we get to know our neighbors! Childcare available.
11:00am Traditional Service This worship is traditional with hymn selections sung by our choir and special music of-ferings. Join us for refreshments following worship.
This blood drive will start at 1:00pm on Wednesday, December
30th and finish up around 6:30pm. Red Cross said last year’s
blood drive was one of the most successful drives the Red
Cross had all year!
How Can I Help?
Donate Blood
We will take 34 appointments total. The total donation process takes approxi-
mately one hour. Appointments will help reduce the wait time so you can get in
and out on your busy schedule. Appointments can be scheduled by visiting
www.redcrossblood.org; sponsor code: congopres.
But I can’t donate blood? We realize not everyone can donate blood but we do need a few volunteers to make
cookies and pour juice for our blood donors.
Why should I donate? Because in short, IT SAVES LIVES! One pint of donated blood can save up to 3
people’s lives. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. This
gift of life is the most cherished gift you could
give anyone! 4 www.congopres.org

4pm Family Service: This service is uniquely
structured for families with children who want to
come to church together. Kids are involved in every
aspect of this service from the music to the lesson.
Bring the whole family as we celebrate the
birth of Jesus together!
7pm Carol Service: This service will feature
many of our beloved Christmas carols and will
include the passing of the Christ’s light, as well as
a meditation on The Gift of Christmas.
Special music by our Bell Choir.
11pm Candlelight Service: This service of
reflection will celebrate Christmas with the
remembrance of Jesus' birth through
candlelight and communion.
Invite a Friend or Neighbor to Church Please remember that there are many
in our community who will be looking
for a church to attend during this
Christmas Season. Please invite your
friends and neighbors who don’t have
a church home to come with you to
our church during the Christmas
Season, and let them know that they will be warmly welcomed!

Associate Pastor Search Update: It has been our intent, from the start of this process, to keep
the congregation informed regularly of our progress in our
search. While we feel we are making great strides on the search
process, it can seem like a long time to those who are anxious-
ly watching and waiting. We understand!
We continue to meet weekly and have completed the
Presbyterian Ministry Information Form describing our
church and the position, it has been approved by the Board,
and will be submitted to the Presbytery for their approval at their
December meeting. At the same time we continue to work on the required
form for the UCC denomination, which has much greater detail. Once these forms
are approved we will be posting them online, and the actual search will begin. Whew!
We feel confident that our careful description of our church and the person we are seek-
ing will be an important key to finding just the right candidate.
That being said, we rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit in all we say and do.
We ask you to continue to hold up in prayer our team, our search and our congregation.
In Christ,

son, Jenny McKarcher, Jesse Messick, Sue Taulbee

*Many people have asked “How can we help for the Holiday Sea-
son?” We ran this article last year and it was so well received, we
are happy to include it again*
Dear Church Members & Friends,
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is coming! For
many of us, this is the easiest time of year to be generous. Here are
just a few ideas of ways we can be a good stewards of our overabun-
dance of blessings:
Donate food to the local food bank. (See page 9 for the current
needs)
Donate warm coats, hats, mittens, etc. (Local
Schools, NICH, and Box Donation Locations
around town)
Buy a Christmas present for someone in need.
(Think Nursing Homes)
Send money to an organization that gives food,
clothes, and Christmas presents to children
overseas. (Operation Shoebox)
Drop your change into the Salvation Army
bucket.
Buy a meal or a coffee for the person behind
you in line at the drive-through. (Plan ahead
and attach a note to give to the person behind
you, wishing them a Merry Christmas)
Donate your time to a local charity.
“Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.”

Dear Congregational Presbyterian Church,
The 2015 Fuller Center Bike Adventure lived up to its
name. What an adventure it was for me! And your contribu-
tion helped me reach my pledge goal - which helped the
Fuller Center to reach their 10th Anniversary goal of over
$1.25 million to be used for community based building pro-
jects and home improvements benefiting folks living in pov-
erty. For more information about the Fuller Center, go to
www.fullercenter.org. And to view pictures of the trip, go to our Face-
book page Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure, and there are 10-15 videos
displayed on www.youtube.com, FCBA 2015. Our group biked over 3000
miles from June 5 - August 16. Thank you for being a part of this dream
God bless you,
Rick Nowlin
P.S. My adventure wasn't over once my bike wheel hit the Atlantic Ocean
in Portland, ME. The Greyhound bus broke down in Columbus, OH on
the second day of the my trip home which would have de-
layed my return another day, so my wife, Kathy, said, “Get a
plane ticket and get home.” I got on a plane and it arrived late
in Detroit, missing my connection to Salt Lake City. Delta
put me up in a hotel and the next day I caught the flight to
SLC and on to Lewiston. Kathy was ready with a hammer for
me to rebuild the front steps the next day!
