1 Introduction

Acer Client Manager (ACM) is an easy‐to‐use system management solution powered by Altiris, which

reduces the total cost of ownership for desktops. Developed for IT professionals who manage

computing devices on a regular basis, the suite enables administrators to deploy, manage, and

troubleshoot systems from virtually anywhere.

Deployment Solution

Deployment Solution for clients helps cut the cost of deploying and managing desktops in your

environment with an easy‐to‐use, integrated solution that provides operating system deployment,

configuration, computer "personality" migrations, and software deployment across hardware platforms

and operating system types.

Inventory Solution

Inventory Solution for clients allows you to take control of your Windows clients' hardware and

software from the convenience of your Web browser. Extensible agents allow you to manage what data

is captured and how it’s reported, while zero‐footprint technology and built‐in Web Reports enable

Inventory Solution to provide you with a day‐one return on your investment.

Software Delivery Solution

Software Delivery Solution for clients provides policy‐based software distribution for applications and

other software change packages throughout your organization. Software Delivery Solution provides

policy‐based distribution to LAN‐based and remote and mobile clients from a single interface, as well as

self‐healing, conflict analysis, and other on‐going software management.

Application Management Solution

Application Management Solution collects information about products installed by Microsoft Windows

Installer (MSI), then reports the information to the ACM or Microsoft Systems Management Server

(SMS). The Windows Installer agent helps you manage source paths, gather inventory about MSI

applications, schedule regular application health checkups, and automatically repair missing or changed

files and/or registry values. Use this solution to gather inventory information about MSI applications

down to an installed feature level, schedule regular application health checkups, and proactively repair

missing or changed files, broken source paths, or registry values. If any unauthorized changes are

discovered, applications can be rolled back or repaired and restored to their original state.

Application Metering Solution

Application Metering Solution determines which software applications and licenses are actually being

used and how often, enabling you to reclaim unused software licenses, eliminate or reallocate unused

licenses, prepare internal audits, and plan for future software purchases. Matching usage information to

purchased license counts stored in the software license agreement allows you to more accurately gauge

future software needs, thus reducing costs and risks associated with overbuying and underbuying.

Patch Management Solution

Patch Management Solution allows you to proactively manage patches and software updates by

automating the collection, analysis, and delivery of patches across your enterprise, significantly helping

you decrease the costs.

Role‐ and Scope‐Based Secure Management

Control tasks that each technician can perform based on employee role and responsibility. ACM can

dynamically modify the console interface for each user based on end‐user preferences, language

settings, and management rights. For example, based on end‐user logon credentials, ACM simplifies

console navigation, reduces clutter, and improves end‐user productivity by displaying only authorized

tasks and resources. Therefore, you can limit help desk workers to remote control and patch

management tasks while expanding the rights of IT workers to advanced management capabilities.

4 Install ACM on Windows Server 2003 SP2 x86

4.1 Install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine Step 1: Run msde2000sp3a.exe in the Altiris 6 folder of the DVD.

Step 2: Press Extract & Execute App.

Step 3: Reboot your system.

Step 4: Check if your SQL server is running.

4.2 Install ACM Server Step 1: Run altiris_ns_6_0.exe in the DVD CD.

Step 7: Input user name, password and press Next.

Input the "machine name\user" or "domain\user"

required configuration is complete.

4.3 Install ACM Client Management Suite Level 1 Step 1: On the Altiris Console welcome page, press Install Altiris Solutions from the Solution Center.

Step 2: Click the Available Solutions tab.

Step 3: Press Client Management Suite – Level 1.

Step4: A dialog box pops up, listing all the components included in the Client Management Suite – Level 1.

Press Start to begin installation.

Step 5: Installation begins. A progress bar indicates the status of the installation.

Step 6: Click the Currently Installed tab to view the 60 components installed.

Step 7: Go to Start > All Programs > Altiris > Altiris Console 6.5 to begin using the console.

Step 8: In the Altiris Console, press Quick Starts.

Step 9: Press Client Management Suite Quick Start.
