for our company in several ways. It is typically less expensive to buy than traditional petroleum, and vehicles operated on clean-er-burning propane require less maintenance. In addition, it is a
domestic source of fuel that supports jobs in the U.S. and reduces the country’s reliance on foreign oil.”
“Shifting to propane autogas allows Adkins to continue to live up to their customer commitment of pro-viding on-time service in the most cost-efficient manner possible,” said Mark Bentley, ACFC Executive Director. Precision Sales & Service (an ACFC member) converted the five vans with certified bi-fuel components. The on-site propane autogas fueling equipment is supplied by Amerigas/Heritage (an ACFC member).
Last year over half a million gallons of fuel were saved by individuals that voluntarily commut-ed to work by carpool, vanpool, public transit, bicycling, walking, and working from home. In-dividuals took part in CommuteSmart, a feder-
ally-funded program of the Regional Plan-ning Commission of Greater Birmingham, provides incentives to
encourage workers to make the switch from driving their vehicle alone. Interested individ-uals register at www.CommuteSmart.org to identify others who live and work near them with matching schedules. Participants qualify for cash, gift cards, and prize giveaways along with an emergency ride home if they have an illness, family emergency, or unscheduled overtime. The Birmingham location serves commuters that live or work in Jefferson and Shelby counties, along with portions of Blount and St. Clair. Commuters in the areas surrounding Huntsville, Montgomery, and Mobile can go to our website for information and contacts for their local region.
SAVING 500,000 GALLONS OF FOREIGN PETROLEUM!
Volt owners, with cars in service more than 30 months in CA, exceeded the EPA rated 35 miles of EV range per full charge! Volt owners are doing more than 63% of overall driv-ing in EV mode. Owners typically drive more than 970 miles be-tween fill-ups and vis-it gas station less than
once a month. With an estimated 98 MIGs and 35 city/40 highway on electric gasoline power, Volt owners save approximately $1,450 in annual fuel costs with no change in driving habits.

ALABAMA CLEAN FUELS COALITION
The Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition (ACFC), a nonprofit membership-based organization, is the state’s principal coordinating point for alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicle information. ACFC is a designated coalition in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program. The promotion of clean, renewable, domestic energy sources helps reduce our dependence on foreign oil, improves local air quality and increases economic development opportunities in our local communities. For more information, please visit www.AlabamaCleanFuels.org or call 205-402-2755.
MARK BENTLEY, EXECUTIVE DIRECTORALABAMA CLEAN FUELS COALITION
Clean Cities advances the nation’s econom-ic, environmental, and energy security by supporting local actions to reduce petroleum consumption in transportation. A national
network of nearly 100 Clean Cities coalitions brings together stakeholders in the public and private sectors to deploy alterna-tive and renewable fuels, idle-reduction measures, fuel economy improvements, and emerging transportation technologies.
The Alabama Clean Fu-els Coalition is a designat-ed Clean Cities coalition serving Alabama. Since our incorporation as a 501c3
Alabama non-profit corporation in 2002 we have worked to reduce our dependence on foreign petroleum consumption in the transportation sector; increase economic development (jobs) and improve air quality in Alabama through the use of cleaner burn-ing alternative fuels: The following graph depicts the results of our stakeholder’s efforts since 2009. In 2014 we are building on this success and anticipate, especially with gas and diesel pricing
accelerating, another excel-lent year when 2014 data is completed.
If you are in the private or public sector and would like to partner with
us to build on prior successes….call us so we can begin the dis-cussion on how alternative transportation fuels may benefit the bottom line of your fleet or organization.
On March 31 – April 2nd Phillip Wiedmeyer and Mark Bentley from the Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition joined clean transportation leaders from across the nation in Washington, DC at the Energy Independence Summit (EIS) 2014 to educate federal policy makers about the need to expand America’s use of alternative fuels, including biofuels, electricity, natural gas, and propane autogas. The Summit is facilitated each year by the Transportation Energy Partnership (TEP) representing Clean Cities Coalitions from across the nation. Over 150 participants (Clean Cities and Industry) representing 27 states plus Canada and the District of Columbia held 165 Congressional meetings with elected representatives on activities with alternative fuels and advanced technology vehicles in their respective areas. The Hill visits were preceded by a full day of high level presentations from both industry and governmental offices.
