The Northeast-10 Conference is an NCAA Division II conference that was established in 1979. The conference consists of 15 member institutions located throughout the Northeast in the states of Connecti-cut, Massachusetts, New Hamp-shire, New York, and Vermont.

The institutions that make up the Northeast-10 include Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), American International College (Springfield, Mass.), Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), Bentley University (Waltham, Mass.), Franklin Pierce University (Rindge, N.H.), Le Moyne College (Syracuse, N.Y.), Merrimack College (North Andover, Mass.), University of New Haven (West Haven, Conn.), Pace University (Pleasantville, N.Y.), Saint Anselm College (Manchester, N.H.), Saint Michael’s College (Colchester, Vt.), The College of Saint Rose (Albany, N.Y.), Southern Connecticut State University (New Haven, Conn.), Southern New Hampshire University (Manchester, N.H.), and Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.). The 15 mem-ber institutions are spread geographically from Syracuse, N.Y. to Waltham, Mass. and Colches-ter, Vt. to Garden City, N.Y.

Many of the members are located in or around the metropolitan areas of Albany, Boston, Man-chester, New Haven, Worcester, and New York City. The conference was proud to welcome the New Haven and Adelphi in its latest expansion, adding to the powerful union of strong academic and athletic institutions.

The Northeast-10 has evolved into a mem-bership committed to competitive athletics programs that emphasize the education, both on and off the field, of more than 6,000 student athletes. Among the many accomplishments of these institutions are NCAA Division II national championships in women’s basketball, wom-en’s cross country, field hockey, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, women’s track and field, and men’s and

women’s swimming and diving.

In all, 80 different Northeast-10 Con-ference teams were selected to par-ticipate in NCAA Championship play during the 2012-13 academic year. The 80 programs represented 15 of the 16

conference institutions.

From the field of play to inside the classroom, the Northeast-10 honored a number of stu-dent-athletes for their academic accomplish-ments. Over 50 percent of all conference student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA throughout the 2012-13 academic year and were named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll as a result.

Today’s Northeast-10 Conference remains focused on complementing the academic in-tegrity and missions of its member institutions with a commitment to a broad-based champi-onship program, as evidenced by the 23 sports the conference offers in championship play, the most such of any Division II conference.

Through the establishment and enforcement of regulations, the conference aims to encourage policies that enable intercollegiate athletics programs to contribute to and be considered an integral part of the total educational offerings at our member institutions. The Northeast-10 can look to a long history of success including the growth from seven original member institu-tions to more than double its size 30 years lat-er, the contention for and winning of multiple national championships, and the recognition of student-athlete performances off the field and in the classroom.

The Northeast-10 Conference

David Duke was named head coach of the men’s basketball program at Adelphi University on April, 29, 2014 by Director of Athletics Danny McCabe. Duke, who helped rebuild programs at Hofstra University and Fordham University, was selected to lead the Panthers in the highly competitive Northeast-10 Conference.

Duke, who just completed his fourth year on the bench at Fordham, his second as Associate Head Coach, helped the Rams to an appearance in the Atlantic-10 Championship. He was also instrumental in recruiting the current Atlantic-10 and All-Met Rookie of the Year, Jon Severe.

Duke started his basketball coaching career as a graduate assistant coach at Hofstra University under the tutelage of now Villanova head Coach Jay Wright. He was then elevated to assistant coach after two seasons. Duke worked under Wright for one season before joining Tom Pecora’s staff at Hofstra when he was named head coach in 2001.

An integral member of the staff at Hofstra, Duke helped the Pride become one of the top programs in the country. He was a part of two NCAA tournaments (2000 and 2001) and four

Postseason National Invitation Tournaments including three in a row (2005-07) at Hofstra. During the 2005-06 seasons, the Pride tied a school record with 26 wins and advanced to the NIT quarterfinals.

Duke helped bring in a number of top level recruiting classes at Hofstra including the programs all-time leading

scorer and three time Haggerty Award winner and Golden State Warrior draft pick, Charles Jenkins, and Antoine Agudio, Hofstra’s all-time leading scorer until surpassed by Jenkins who was 13th in the NCAA in scoring in 2007-08. In addition, Duke coached guards, Craig “Speedy” Claxton, who was chosen in the first round of the National Basketball Association’s 2000 NBA draft and Norman Richardson, who appeared in the NBA with the Washington Wizards, Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers.

In 2003 and 2004, Duke was the head coach of the Long Island’s men’s open team at the Empire State Games that won consecutive championships-the first time that Long Island has ever won back-to-back titles in the history of the Empire State Games. In 2003 Duke became one of the youngest coaches ever to win the gold medal in the open men’s basketball competition. In 2004, Long Island won the championship by an average margin of victory of 33 points per game. The team also averaged 100 points per game and beat New York City on the way to the championship.

Duke spent four years at Fordham, including two as the Associate Head Coach. In those four years Duke’s recruiting efforts helped elevate the talent pool considerably, leading to a resurgence of the program.

Duke earned his undergraduate degree in 1997 from SUNY Albany where he majored in communications and minored in education. In the 1997-98 season, he played on the basketball team at New York Institute of Technology.

Long Island There’s more than plenty to do on Long Island. Arts, culture, history, beaches, golf and shopping.

There are five distinctive regions in Long Island North Shore, otherwise known as the Gold Coast, with dozens of historic sites dating back to colonial days and Gatsby-era mansions .

South Shore, the Island’s spectator sports and entertainment center, with world-famous Jones and Fire Island Beaches, and home to the New York Islanders.

Central Suffolk, with beautiful forests and natural

inlets, the world’s largest factory outlet center and a huge water park.

North Fork, with an array of vineyards, waterfront ports and farm stands.

South Fork, widely known as “The Hamptons,” with its pristine beaches and exclusive villages.

It is impossible not to find something interesting to do and see in Manhattan. The most renowned of New York City’s five boroughs, Manhattan offers the best of everything—Broadway shows, concerts, sporting events, museums, shops, restaurants, parks, parades, cultural landmarks and one-of-a-kind neighborhoods. New York City is only 30 minutes from the Adelphi University Campus.

On a trip to Manhattan, you could:

• Head to Central Park to catch the finish of the New York City Marathon, or pack a picnic basket for lunch on the grass at Strawberry Fields;

• Ring in the New Year by watching the famous ball drop in Times Square;

• Catch a Tony Award-winning show or late-night TV favorite David Letterman on Broadway;

• See the Knicks take the court or the Rangers hit the ice at historic Madison Square Garden;

• Try your hand at any number of sports at Chelsea Piers;

• Get in the holiday spirit at the tree-lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center;

• Indulge your love of the arts at Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall;

• Visit the best-known address in the financial world: Wall Street;

• Spend a leisurely day walking through a unique neighborhood such as Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village or Harlem;

• Experience the great works of art you’ve discussed in class on a trip to Museum Mile along Fifth Avenue; or take a tour of the building that seeks to unite the world, the United Nations.

Motamed FieldIn 2008, Adelphi University announced the naming of its athletic competition field, part of its new outdoor sports stadium, in recognition of the generous support and leadership of its Board of Trustees Chairman, Thomas F. Motamed, Class of 1971.

Motamed Field was the site of the 2011 NCAA Division II and III women’s lacrosse championship. It also played host to the 2010, 2011, and 2014 Northeast-10 Women’s Lacrosse Championships and the 2011, 2012, and 2014 Northeast-10 Men’s Lacrosse Championship.

The Outdoor Sports Complex features Motamed Field, which is the home for the Adelphi men’s and women’s soccer, lacrosse and field hockey programs.

• Adjacent to the Motamed Field is a practice space.

• The tennis courts are located just beyond this field and anchors the complex in one contiguous area.

• All-weather surface material to allow for year-round practice and competition.

• Four main light standards help illuminate the field for evening training and competition, as well as working media and game operations.

• A heated/air-conditioned Press Box is located at the top of the stadium seats. Located midfield, the press box accommodates sports information, working media and

game operations, which maintains the scoreboard and public address sound system.

• The Panthers’ live in-game stats of soccer, lacrosse and field hockey events originates out of the press box.

• Addition of a one-level parking structure for over 300 cars below the field.
