We took

A binding oath from you.Which oath is this? The oath that was taken by Bani Israel to obey the commandments in the

Taurah

And we raised. The root letters are ع ف It . رmeans to raise.

Above you

This refers to the Mountain Tur (in Desert Sinai). In arabic, Tur is the type of mountain on which vegetation grows, is green. But here it is referring to one particular mountain.

We gave you. What was given to them? The Taurah.

A mockery- mocking a person for such a thing that he has not done.

I seek refuge with Allah

with no ilm.
