We have received all the bids from the contractors and the lowest bid is $121,000. Now we can move forward with the vote to appropriate funding for this addion to our lodge. This is the most important appropriaons issue we have dealt with since the $130,000 purchase of the property that split our lot about seven years ago and the $82,000 for paving the ar- ea for the addional parking. This debt is completely paid off and we did it in approximately four years. The new addion is as equally important to the future of our lodge. This addion will add approximately one thou- sand (1,000) square feet of badly needed space. In addi- on, it will keep the smoke from entering the non- smoking area. The new addion will also provide a com- fortable place where our smoking members can once again feel like they are a part of our lodge. Please remem- ber this is a brotherhood and each member owns an equal share of this lodge. So let’s all pull together and make this lodge comfortable for everyone. It makes good sense both financially and fraternally. I hope that those who are interested in this most important issue will aend the No- vember 1st meeng, listen to the presentaon and ask any pernent quesons. This way, we will all come away with a beer understanding of what we are trying to achieve. Also this month, our D.D.G.E.R. Timothy Phillips will be vising our lodge with his Esquire Gary Bruce. Also vising is Dan Snyder, the past D.D.G.E.R. and currently the State Chairman of Business Pracces. All V.I.P.’s will aend the October 4, 2016 meeng. Gloria will be hosng her First Lady Event on Sunday, October 16, 2016. There will be a buffet luncheon, 50/50 drawing, silent aucon and a live aucon with three or four items. One item will be a one week stay in a 2 bedroom home in Quail Creek Country Club in Green Valley, AZ (near Tucson). This one week stay may be ulized Nov. or Dec. 2016 or May through Novem- ber, 2017. Buffet ckets will be on sale at the Elks Office starng September 29 th . Proceeds will be donated to the West- ern Humane Society for renovaons to their newly purchased building on the south side of Lake Havasu City. Important Meeting During the regular Lodge meeting of November 1, 2016 a vote will be taken on the pro-posed Lodge Smoking Addition. This is your Lodge so be sure to attend the meeting to exercise your right of franchise. There were two motions made on the floor of the Lodge. 1. Approval for loan to build a designated smoking room. 2. Proposed change to House Rule 10a. Currently Reads: a. Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the lodge. Change to: a. Smoking is prohibited in the lodge except in the desig-nated smoking room. Vote will be taken at the regular lodge meeting of November 1, 2016 See the Trustee Report for de-tails of the proposal. Winter Season
The hot summer months will soon be behind us and again our winter visitors will be returning. With their return there will be occasions when the Lodge facil-ities will be stretched to a maxi-mum; consequently there will be uneasy situations. It is ever members responsibility to act with Brotherly Love. Remem-ber, the Foundation and Ground Work of Our Order: “ To do unto others as we would they should do unto us.”
Funeral Service A Funeral Service, commonly re-ferred to as a Lodge of Sorrow, is available for all departed members. This simple but reverent service is conducted by the Lodge Officers in a dignified, solemn and reverent manner. It serves as a lasting tribute to our absent member. To take advantage of this service please contact the Lodge Office for available dates and times. The Club manager is ready to provide an ap-propriate buffet if so desired and the Exalted Ruler will work with you for all details.

Trustee Report to Members As true ELKs, we should guide our lives by the cardinal principles we swore to at our initiation—Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love, and Fidelity. The smoking vote and the personal attitudes of some members towards our smoking members have se-verely impacted our lodge My agenda is to bring back the Brotherly Love and Harmony we shared at the beginning of this year. This will take positive attitudes among ALL our members. Remember we are ALL Elks working for our Charities and the Good of the Order. We are proceeding with the building expansion to provide a separate, environmentally-controlled struc-ture for our smoking members year round. Let’s face it! No one wants to stand out in the heat during the Havasu summer—we don’t have a pool to jump into—or endure the cold, blowing winds in winter. This expansion will MAINTAIN the current SMOKE-FREE environment WITHIN the existing lodge. The question you should ask is—“what is the VALUE in building a smoking area” versus how much does it costs. For an amortized investment of $1,000 a month for 15 years, we will GAIN $4,000 to $7,000 in REVENUE that we have lost month-after-month this year when compared to last year’s revenues after the non-smoking vote went into effect. Every member pays $78.00 membership fee to enjoy the rights and privileges of this Lodge. Every member has an equal share and a vote. But ultimately, the entire assets of this Lodge belong to Grand Lodge under our charter. This investment is no different than the $321,000 we paid to build the restaurant and game room addi-tion or the $200,000 spent to purchase the lot and expand the needed parking. All of these were paid off in less than 5 years. I CERTAINLY HOPE all of OUR MEMBERS WILL SUPPORT OUR DIRECTION AT THE NOVEMBER 1ST DISCUSSION AND VOTE. If you don’t, the great heart of Elkdom will bleed se-verely and may will impact our hours of operation in both the restaurant, bar and free entertainment. Here is an update on other activities taking place in the Lodge that resulted from an Elk calling the Fire Department at the July 5th smoking vote: .
The fire marshal came and, even though we were in compliance with the number of members al-lowed in the building, it started a serious audit of our facilities—not to mention that it also started audits of the facilities at the Eagles, Moose, VFW and the American Legion.
This audit has resulted in us having to o Replace the kitchen fire suppression system at a cost of $5,500.
o Hire an architect to design an Emergency Exit Plan that we presented to the City Building
Inspector and the Fire Marshal, which then resulted in us having to bring the Lodge up to current ADA (American Disability Act) code requirements.
o Install new double front doors at an estimated cost up to $5,000.
o Keep the accordions partitions OPEN. We can no longer close them to separate meetings
and functions. We are working on these problems and a few other minor ones, but you can see the repercussions that one member made by not practicing the cardinal principles he swore to at his initiation. I certainly hope that Brotherly Love grows within each of you and that “The Great Heart of Elkdom Swells and Throbs” once again and ever greater Harmony returns within our Lodge in Lake Havasu City. Drug Awareness chairman Mike Arlowe will recognize the Drug Awareness Poster and Essay winners for this year with trophy's and certificates of achievement. All families of the contest winners will be hosted to a Lasagna dinner. Program amd dinner starts at 5:))PM AEA President Al Skonroski will make his official visit to the Lodge on that day and participate in the awards ceremony. Plan to attend, greet the President and support the Drug Awareness contest winners.

Hello Elkettes! September is behind us and our event cal-endar is really getting full. Our fashion show luncheon “FALL INTO FASHION” is ready to go on October 8. Vendors are already lining up to participate in our Craft Fair on November 19th, which is always a big success and Jan Przysiecki always does such a good job. Donations have already
started coming in for Kids Turn To Shop in December and our Rummage Sale in January. And in the middle of all this we have our See’s Candy Sale in November, with Te-resa Bremenour doing such a great job as Chairperson, and our annual Winter Dinner Dance in December. I some-times feel overwhelmed by everything the Elkettes put to-
gether, but in the end I can stand back and smile and be happy with the outcome. It’s also time for us to buy Christmas gifts for the children of families who will be receiving Christmas baskets from the Lodge. Ed Wdowiak does a wonderful job with this and our Rosalie Smith will again this year take charge of collecting the gifts for the children, and she will gladly start collecting them at our October meeting. Support from our membership is crucial for our success in all our endeavors, so don’t be shy, volunteer and you’ll see how that support works for all of us. Your President, Paulette Nainteau
The Purple Pig has arrived at the Elks Lodge 2399. The Little Pig Banks are working for the Arizona Elks Major Projects.
By putting your pocket change in the pig Elks 2399 will be helping to send Children to camp and help provide medical research for children. When you are at the lodge please donate to the Pig Banks even it’s just few pennies Re-member all monies matter and it does add up. If you would like to take a pig home with you, please do so. When you fill up the pig please return it o the office with your name taped to the pig.

9/11 Rededication Ceremony Observed A large crowd attended the 2016 Rededication Ceremony on September 11 and the 2399 Elks again attended in good numbers. Pictured are a small group of those Elks attending. Several Elk mem-bers participated in the ceremony. Elk Member and Lake Havasu City Mayor Mark Nexsen gave an extremely moving and poignant key-note speech. Elk Member Bud Watts acted as emcee and PER Ace Johnson assisted by raising the American/POW flag. Assisting in the event preparation were PER Tim Fairbank Event coordinator, Leading Knight Gary Parsons and lodge member Paul Murray. Hours of preparation went into the planning of the 15 year successful ceremony with even the weather cooperating.

FISHING CLUB REPORT Dates for the October Derby’s are: Wednesday October 5th and October 19th from 6:30 to 11:30 AM. Weigh-in is at Windsor Beach south with the scales open from 11:30AM until Noon. Lunch will
be served at the Lodge following the fish cleaning. The Club’s Board of Director’s meeting will be held on Monday Octo-ber 3rd at 11:00AM at the Lodge. The Club’s General Meeting will be held at
the Lodge on Saturday October 8th following our fish fry. The fish fry starts at 11:30 AM and all Elks and their guests are welcomed. The August Derby winners are: first place went to Gary Sandell and Millie Beyer with 2 fish weighing 2.3lbs; second place were Jerry Boyce and John Burns. Big cat fish at 7.06lbs. Was won by Jerry Boyce. September Derby winners are: first place went to Russ and Wally Thornton with 10 fish weighing 13.19lbs; second place was won by Jerry Boyce and John Burns with 10 fish weighing 12.23lbs. Big fish of the Derby was won by Russ Thornton with a 1.82lb striper. On the 22nd and 23rd of October the Fishing Club will once again be in charge of the fishing tanks at the Pumpkin Festival. Lake Havasu City Commu-nity Services and the Lake Havasu Fire Fighters charities will be co-hosting the event. Carole Hall is our new Sunshine Lady. She will be sending sympathy cards and keeping the member-ship advised on the welfare of our members. Want to join the Elks Fishing Club? Elks Yacht Club News With the September’s Silent Auction and Poker “Run” now just a memory we head into October with our an-nual Octoberfest on Sunday the 9th from 3-7 PM featur-ing fun, food, drinks and dancing. Ticket information
was sent out to our member via email. Our regular meeting will be on Octo-ber 15th at 2PM. We will discuss up-coming events such as our fabulous “Pig in the Ground” in November and our boat entry into the Parade of Lights in December. Many thanks to all those who volunteered already, but

Vagabonds News Fall has arrived and now the fun begins. Hopefully, this isn’t the start of your fun. I’m guessing you had fun somewhere all
summer. We have our first campout of the season in Wil-liams scheduled for September 14th through the 17th, heading for home on the 18th. By the time you are reading this, many of you were there and participated in all the fun. We have 50 rigs
signed up to go. There were many activities for our members including off-roading, shopping, a brewery to visit, the Grand Canyon, Planes of Fame and Bearizona. Of course there is always good camaraderie and food to share. Our campout in October will be at LaPaz October 20th through the 22nd coming home on the 23rd. This will be hosted by Deborah and Gary Haines. There is something for everybody – boating, off roading, The Desert Bar, a casino, and the Par-ker Elks. The campground also has a clubhouse for a cook-out. Even though we did not have formal meetings throughout the summer, we have several new members. Those include Verle Hankins, Ed & Debbie Roush, Steve & Susie Moerke and Rollie & Pat Shinavar. We look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. New members bring new life and ideas to our club and that is always appreciated. If you are interested in joining our fun group, contact the Lodge office or Gloria Flint, our Treasurer. Our meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of each month (except June, July and August) and start at 1:00. Come at noon to join us for lunch. Golf Club News: Well fall weather is finally here and great golf condi-tions are upon us again. They will be over-seeding the golf course for the winter grass and the work should be done by October. Up-coming soon is our semi -annual scramble and luncheon. Also, the President’s Golf Tournament will be held in early December, so be sure to sign up for these two great competitive stoke play tournaments. The next away tournament will be held October 10th at Los Lagos. The November away tournament will be No-vember 14th at Needles and the December tourney at Em-erald Canyon. Be sure to get signed up early. The sign-up sheets are located on the club board or every Tuesday at the Refuge. Jerry Downing will not be the Away chair next year, so think about volunteering.
