A Service of Morning Prayer Opening Song To God Be the Glory BCP 371

To God be the glory, who great things has done: God so loved he the world, freely sending the Son,

who yielded his life an atonement for sin, and opened the life gate that all may go in.

Refrain: Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear God’s voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,

and give him the glory, great things he has done.

2 Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood, to ev’ry believer the promise of God.

That when the offender, repenting, believes, through Jesus’ atonement, God’s pardon receives. [Refrain]

3 Great things God has taught us, great things God has done, and great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son,

but purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder, our gladness, when Jesus we see! [Refrain]

The Peace

The peace of the Lord be with you all And also with you.

The Penitential Rite

Go and make disciples of all nations, says the Lord; I am with you always, to the close of the age. Matthew 28:19-20

Dear friends in Christ, as we prepare to worship almighty God, let us with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy.

Silence is kept.

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen. Almighty God have mercy upon us, pardon and deliver us from all our sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and keep us in eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Glory To God

Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly king, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen

Morning Prayer

All stand. Lord, open our lips, And our mouth shall proclaim you’re praise. O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Alleluia!

The Invitatory

Alleluia! The Lord is risen indeed: O come, let us worship.

Christ our Passover

Alleluia! Christ our Passover has been sacrificed for us; * therefore let us keep the feast, Not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, * but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. Alleluia! Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; * death no longer has dominion over him. The death that he died, he died to sin, once for all; * but the life he lives, he lives to God. So also consider yourselves dead to sin, * and alive to God in Jesus Christ our Lord. Alleluia! Christ has been raised from the dead, * the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since by a man came death, * by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, * so also in Christ shall all be made alive. Alleluia!

The Proclamation of the Word

A reading from Acts 1: 1-11 The word of the Lord. Thanks, be to God.

Psalm 47

1 Clap your hands, all you peoples; * shout to God with a cry of joy.

2 For the Lord Most High is to be feared; * he is the great king over all the earth.

3 He subdues the peoples under us, * and the nations under our feet.

4 He chooses our inheritance for us, * the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

5 God has gone up with a shout, * the Lord with the sound of the ram’s-horn.

Page 5: All Saint s’ & St. Thomas Church

5

6 Sing praises to God, sing praises; *

sing praises to our king, sing praises.

7 For God is king of all the earth; * sing praises with all your skill.

8 God reigns over the nations; * God sits upon his holy throne.

9 The nobles of the peoples have gathered together * with the people of the God of Abraham.

10 The rulers of the earth belong to God, * and he is highly exalted.

Blessed are you, God of all the earth; you have called us out of every people and nation to be a royal priesthood and citizens of your holy city. May our words of praise call the world to turn to the joy of fellowship with you, through Jesus Christ our Lord

The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Intercessions and Thanksgivings

The Collect

Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ ascended to the throne of heaven that he might rule over all things as Lord. Keep the Church in the unity of the Spirit and in the bond of his peace, and bring the whole of creation to worship at his feet, who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever

The Lord’s Prayer

Gathering our prayers and praises into one, let us pray as our Saviour taught us, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and for ever. Amen.

Doxology

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host: Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Closing Song Trees of the Field BCP 662

You shall go out with joy And be led forth with peace The mountains and the hills Will break forth before you

There'll be shouts of joy And all the trees of the field

Will clap, will clap their hands

And all the trees of the field Will clap their hands The trees of the field Will clap their hands The trees of the field Will clap their hands

While you go out with joy
