The Sacrament of Reconciliation: Confessions are heard each week on Saturday at the Church (SR #46) from 3:45pm to 4:45pm Learn more about this beautiful sacrament by visiting our website: www.allsoulssanford.org/reconciliation The Sacrament of Baptism: Call the parish office to learn the necessary requirements and make an appointment with Father Kenneth Metz to have your child baptized. Ask us about the requirements for Godparents. The Sacrament of Marriage: Getting married? Congratulations! The process of being married in the Catholic Church could take between 6 months to a year to complete. Please contact Ann Cammarata at the parish office as soon as possible after your engagement if you would like to be married at All Souls Catholic Church. Anointing of the Sick: Please call the parish office. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. Did you know that the Sacrament may be repeated if the person becomes sick again? A person should be anointed before surgery when a dangerous illness is the reason for the intervention. Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound: If you are unable to attend Mass, please call the parish office so we may assist you in having a visit from one of our ministers or one of our priests. Catholic Funeral and Burial: Please call the parish office or have the funeral home director contact us to arrange the Funeral Mass and for more information about burial at All Souls Catholic Cemetery. Our Online Homilies: If you missed Mass over the weekend you may view the homily by visiting: www.allsoulssanford.org

The burial of your deceased loved ones with dignity and the ongoing care of their graves are very important to All Souls Catholic Church. In an effort to keep the cemetery landscaping properly maintained, it is occasionally necessary to remove items that interfere with mowing, edging, and

trimming. Border trims, rocks, plastic vases or other decorative items stuck in the ground interfere with maintenance and are not permitted around any gravesite. These items also interfere with placement of new sod on recent graves. Only bronze, granite, or marble vases which are permanently attached to the headstone or base are allowed for the display of real or artificial flowers (one per grave). Plants or shrubs cannot be planted in the ground by the gravesite. We are preparing to clear the cemetery of the items mentioned above beginning Monday, June 18. This cleanup is especially important during hurricane season when any unsecured items may blow around and interfere with moving. We ask that family member please remove any unsecured items of personal value. After June 17, parish staff and volunteers will begin removing and disposing them. Please contact the parish office at 407.322.3795 if you have any questions about this cleanup. Thank you for your cooperation in helping to maintain our cemetery.

Diocese of Gallup – Mission Appeal: Father Peter Short, V.G. from the Diocese of Gallup will be speaking at our Masses next weekend—June 30/July 1. He will be supplying us with information on ways that we might help further the mission works in his Diocese. The Diocese of Gallup covers over 55,000 square miles of Northeastern Arizona and Northwestern New Mexico which encompasses seven Native American reservations and pueblos. What power lies in a name? Have you ever met a "David," "Holly," or "Jack" and said, "They don't look like a David, Holly, or Jack"? Sometimes our name actually adds something to our person. Peculiar people sometimes have peculiar names. Some people of tremendous strength have names that we deem strong as well. Sometimes we give nicknames to people because of some attributes they exhibit. In the Bible, names mean a lot. Saul changes his name to Paul when he converts. Adam means "man," as in the first man. Eve means "to live" or "to breathe." Elizabeth took great care to name her son John as God commanded, even if other family members did not understand why such a unique name not found in their lineage. It was a unique name for a child who had a unique future of preparing the way for the Messiah. We have our baptismal names, our surnames, our Confirmation names, and our maiden names. But all disciples of Jesus also bear the same name: Christian. People may wonder what does a David, Holly, or Jack really look like, but they should never wonder what a Christian looks like. Unfortunately, too often those who bear this name don't resemble the characteristics embodied in the name. Simply, a Christian looks like Christ. A Christian acts like Christ. A Christian truly is Christ to a world that seeks to uncover the true meaning of his name. --Tracy Earl Welliver, Master of Theological Studies, LPI, Inc.

As we celebrate today's feast, we are reminded that God creates and fashions each one of us with intent and purpose. We are not random accidents. We are special creations and wonderfully made. Each of us brings a unique twist to the one shot at life that we are given. As people of faith and children of God,

we are asked to use our specialness to announce God's kingdom. Each of us reveals a unique part of God's face. Each day presents opportunities to communicate our faith to others and to reveal God's mercy. We have the means to point the way to Christ. How can we show Jesus to others today? LPI, Inc.

Tiny fingers and toes. A little yawn. A loud cry. An infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. "What will this child be?" It is a question every parent asks time and time again. As first steps are taken, as

personalities emerge, as a child shows interest in reading or drawing or climbing, the question is on our lips. "What will this child be?" This question is asked as John the Baptist is born. Will he be a priest like his father? Does his strange, unexpected name signal a departure from that inheritance? Could Elizabeth and Zechariah ever have predicted what would be? Under the tutelage of his priestly father, John "became strong in spirit." As an adult, John would retreat into the desert to preach repentance. He would attract a large following and eventually attract the attention of the rulers of the day. He would point out the adulterous ways of King Herod and would find himself in prison. Eventually, he would be beheaded. But today, he is a child, an infant newly born. On this special feast, we're reminded of the great humility required of parents. The character formation, the discipline and encouragement, the violin lessons and soccer practices—every parental effort is subjected to the decisions of the child themself. Even children on a sure track by high school graduation transform under life's circumstances. Entrusting our children to God can be incredibly intimidating. "What will this child be," especially when that transformation lies outside of my control? John the Baptist's story might not have ended as his parents imagined. But he is celebrated as the greatest of the prophets, as the one who prepared the way for the Messiah. Here is the hope of all Christian parents—that our children would be raised in such a way that when people meet them, they meet Jesus Christ. LPI, Inc.
