• The Architect envisioned a house with the “ primal quality of a single room” that captured within it as much daylight as possible.
• The Alves Residence is an abstraction by architects Thomas Hanranhan & Victoria Meyers of a single vessel into a house, in other words , the design of the house as a single modulated volume excavated by light.
• The 1900 sq. Ft. House sits on a triangular shelf of flat land on a steeply sloping hillside facing south and east.
• The structure is an elongated volume to match the site and is entered from a south terrace cut through deep trees on the south end.
• The architects designed the living room so that it appears to grow naturally out of the ground.
• The house fulfills the aspirations of the architects as a place to contemplate the cycles of nature, as “ a retreat in nature allows the silence of the forest to enter into the domestic realm”.
