AN INNOVATIVE SOLUTION TO UNDERWATER HULL CLEANING
“IN RECENT DECADES, AS GLOBAL TRADE AND MASS TRANSIT HAVE BLOOMED, IT IS ESTIMATED IN ANY 24
HOURS 10,000 DIFFERENT SPECIES, SUCH AS MOLLUSCS, CRUSTACEANS, SEAWEED AND PLANKTON,
ARE MOVED AROUND THE WORLD. THE INTERNATIONAL UNION FOR THE CONSERVATION OF
NATURE CALCULATES THAT INVASIVE SPECIES ARE THE SECOND MOST SIGNIFICANT THREAT TO
BIODIVERSITY AFTER HABITAT LOSS”

IMO Considerations for Commercial Vessels “stop” spreading Alien
Invasive Spices “AIS”
Maintain a clean hull through best practice hull maintenance between dry docking (as outlined by the International Maritime Organisation ) Best practice maintenance can include, but is not limited to:
Biofouling Management Plan and Record Book,
Maintenance of a current and damage-free antifouling coating,
Regular underwater hull inspections
Underwater Hull Cleaning
IMO focus today besides the main hull on Niche areas those areas on a vessel that protrude or are recessed from the flat hull surfaces, those in the figure below are of particular importance for biofouling maintenance, as biofouling tends to accumulate in these areas

Technology TECHULLCLEAN (THC) is not just one hull cleaner but a series of tools operated by divers or remote controlled Cleaning a vessel hull and Its nice areas is no different from cleaning your house using a Dyson The Filter The Flexible Hose The head for the floor The head for the Sofa The head for the corners and curves

In 2015 THC with SGS in the united states conducted a flow and vacuum study with Stress Engineering Services Inc. in the United States to learn how a rotating disk perform underwater and this study is today the reasons why the THC hull cleaner is a closed crawler unit with high performance pumps on the unit to detain the debris from the hull and create the maximum environment for reclaim.

The success of the THC water treatment and filter system is because of the large surface of the 150 micron filter liner between filter box 1 and filter box 2 allowing large volume of water to pass into the main filter box 3 capture ring (AIS) alien invasive species and marine fouling, paint pigmentation with Cu is retained before passing the 25 micron filters The amount of volume of water treated pr hour is minimum 57m3

The Micro filter system (the Result)
The two micro filters are easily replaced during the cleaning operation, filters can be applied from 5 microns to 100 Microns, today we use 25 microns. (see also enclosed video film)
Waste Handling
Waste handling procedure
After job completion the filters are separated and collected by a certified waste handling company
The waste handling company issue a certificate with name of the vessel and what has been collected
Available end of each month a report can be send to the port of each job and location of the job.
One system collects between 17 and 22 tons per year
Waste Handling
All waste and Macro and Mico filters are collected for certification of up to 1500 kgs/L

About Underwater Constractors Spain (UCS)
It was the first one to be tested and verified by UCA It started in 2008 to implement suggestions and improvements of the of the machines and cleaning procedures Its yearly evaluation has been always positive and accomplishing the environmental legistation It has reached a 80-90% of efficiency in filtering with an overall efficiency of about 50% at high speed and about 80-90% at low speed. It is the longest record hull cleaning enterprise in being environmentally evaluated
UCS is BAT!
