Hello CourageousParishioners!

We would like to thankthose that have responded to our pledge drive so far and send out a friendlyreminder that it would be great to count us “all in” by this Sunday. Hearing thestory of Esther from our liturgist and pastor last Sunday as our example of faithand courageousness for such a time as this is uplifting and even inspiring.

So please join the throng if able whether it be time, talent and/or treasure. Youcan do this by mail or online through the church web site. This Covenant Sundaywe will “bring our pledges forward” and ask for God’s blessing for all of us, ourgifts, and for the continued work of our beloved church. For such a time as this ,you will not want to miss it! Thank you again for your prayerful considerationand generosity! From Your Stewardship Team

Insights into InjusticeMany of us at First Parish Church aredismayed by the continued violenceagainst our black brothers and sistersand many of us are looking around forresources that can educate us about theBlack Experience. UNH has built awebsite to provide easy access to stateand local resources. They have made helpful lists of print books, e-books, TEDTalks, etc. There is something here for each of us who is looking to broaden ourknowledge. Check it out! https://libraryguides.unh.edu/c.php?g=810738&p=5784979

Our Prayer List is published weekly as a link herein Steeple Chat.

Our Find at the FirstThrift Shop has beenclosed since mid Marchdue to the pandemic. TheThrift Shop volunteers areplanning a sociallydistanced Tag Sale ofThrift Shop, rummage, and yard sale type itemsoutside in the churchparking lot on Saturday,September 12. Items willbe pre-sorted byvolunteers and placed onsocially distanced tables in the lot, each table"tagged" with the prices of theitems. The church parking lot will be closed to parking that day to allow spacefor the sale, but parking will be available on Church Street and hopefully, at St.Mary's.

The funds raised by the Tag Sale will support the mission and ministries of thechurch. During the pandemic, the Thrift Shop revenue to the church has ceased, along with a loss of rental income and other usual fund raising events of thechurch. This Tag Sale will help offset some of that income loss. Following the TagSale, our Thrift Shop volunteers are planning to re-open the shop later inSeptember in a limited and safe manner

You are invited to drop off your “spring cleaning” donations starting MondayAugust 17th. The church parking lot will have donation bins with “Tag Sale”

"White Privilege: Let’s Talk –A Resource forTransformational Dialogue”is an adult curriculum from theUnited Church of Christ that’sdesigned to invite churchmembers to engage in safemeaningful, substantive, and boldconversations on race. The

materials include a participant’s reader, video clips, and resources for deeperstudy as well as a guide for a series of 6 discussions. The program looks at fourareas of focus: telling the story of your spiritual journey through the lens of race;looking at the dynamic of a culture in which whiteness is the established norm;learning how America attaches a cash value to whiteness; and inviting theparticipants to commit to becoming an ally in the pursuit of racial equity. The team for Racial Justice and Healing will be offering this program inSeptember and October as a way to deepen our own understandings. An Update from the Seacoast InterfaithSanctuary Coalition (SISC):

What It’s Like Once You Are Released

Did you know…. A person released fromimmigration detention and awaiting court cannotlegally work. When applying for asylum, a personmust wait 150 days after the case is lodged beforeapplying for work authorization. Another 30 days(sometimes longer) is needed to process theapplication and assign a social security number.During this time, that person is ineligible for mostforms of public assistance such as food stamps

and Medicaid. Working without authorization is grounds for immediatedeportation. Want to learn more and find out how you can help? Contact yourSISC Volunteer Coordinator, Joyce Tugel [email protected] and considerbecoming a temporary Host Home or volunteer to be part of our Host SupportNetwork.

So, how does it sound??

We have received commentsfrom our online congregationregarding the sound quality ofthe services. Comments rangefrom "it sounds fine to me" to"the sound quality is notgreat".

We have been making adjustments to the sound on the production end tohopefully improve what you hear at home.

However, there are some steps you can take on the receiving end to improvewhat you hear. First and foremost, if your sound is coming from the built-inspeakers on your laptop or Ipad, the sound quality will never been "full fidelity".If possible, you should connect either a high-quality external speaker system oruse high quality headphones connected to your computer or Ipad.

Page 7: and Covenant Sunday The Eleventh Sunday after …...In our ONLINE Church this Sunday, August 16, 2020 The Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost and Covenant Sunday 10:00 a.m. ONLINE Service

Secondly, there are adjustments you can make in the Zoom program on yourcomputer to improve the sound you hear. The adjustments are summarized inthis short video: Zoom Sound. Folks have reported that these settings are easyto change and do make a difference in sound quality.
