BlackCat is a hybrid jazz trio that offers a new school take on the original jazz sound. Featuring traditional jazz standards with influence drawn from country and pop, the trio genre bends through the lush sounds of soul & blues all wrapped up in a slicked back cabaret assembly. Snippets of Nina Simone, Amy Winehouse and Norah Jones might bring the mental picture into focus. Featuring the sultry voice of Urshula Leung, folk inspired keys of David Elliston and classically infused cello lines from Nicholas Mercer.

Jazz around Hobart This is our major fundraiser for Hot August Jazz 2018.
Our Jazz around Hobart Calendar shows some venues, local iconic loca ons and musicians in the Hobart Area. Many thanks to the Clarence City Council for their generous sponsorship of the Calendar; this just shows their incredible support for Tasmanian Jazz. We would also like to thank our Photographer Sarah Walker from Paper Lantern Photography for running around all over the place taking photos of the musicians, Wrest Point Casino and of course the calendar par cipants. Taz JazFest We are back at Lufra at Eaglehawk Neck for 2018. See the poster in this newsletter. All bookings must be done through the Jazz Club. Please contact Terry Patterson on 0435 759 123. Prices start from $55 per person per night for the hotel rooms and rise according to the level accommodation. Please book before the end of March to receive the discounted JazFest price. Musicians who perform over the weekend will have the chance of free accommodation BUT musos must book early (limited free accom available) and be prepared to play when required. We are looking at taking Taz JazFest North next year and alternating each year after that so we can party with our fellow jazz lovers in the north and south.

Clarence Jazz Fes val 2018 A er a stellar 21st birthday celebra on, the Clarence Jazz Fes val will con nue its mission to seek out amazing musicians, explore new styles, and boldly go to beau ful loca ons all over the city. This 8 day music fes val will be held from the 18th to 25th
February hos ng its favourite elements including the Twilight Series - a range of free concerts in parks around Clarence; the Jazz Lounge – in mate performances in the Rosny Barn; and the ever popular weekend of free music accompanied by food and wine at the Bellerive Boardwalk. George Washingmachine returns as Fes val Ambassador and will join some of the acts performing including Too Hot For Jazz, Mouldy Fig, Bootleg Gin Sluggers and Django’s Tiger (just to name a few). CJF has focused 2018 on female in-strumentalists through the Clarence Jazz Scholarship Program and by en-deavouring to book acts with female players. Special guests on Friday and Saturday evening in the Jazz Lounge is a combo put together by CJF to feature the amazing talents of Sandy Evans from Sydney (sax) Andrea Keller from Melbourne (piano) and local ex-patriate Elly Hoyt on vocals. GARMENTS with HOBART JAZZ CLUB LOGO Some members will have seen other members sporting a polo or rugby shirt embroidered with the Jazz Club logo. Anyone wanting to purchase one (or more) may do so by filling in the order form below. Please use a separate order form for each shirt type. There is also the option to bring in your own garment to have the HJC logo embroidered onto it with the proviso that the garment is either brand new, recently dry cleaned or freshly laundered. LOGO (only) $ 12.00 on own garment If you wish to purchase a shirt or garment from the club, prices range from $18 to $35. The garments come in a wide range of colours and are very good quality and value for mon-ey. They come in a wide range of sizes from small to 4XL. The logo is in colour, as on our name tags. The word TASMANIA under the logo is embroidered in gold. Hot August Jazz Logos are also available; these are best on a black garment.
