OUR MISSION Cornerstone of Hope is dedicated to providing support, education, and hope for the grieving. Guided by Christian values of compassion and service, we welcome and serve all seeking support.

Creating a World Where No Grieving Person Journeys Alone…The values and aspirations of Cornerstone of Hope are manifest in the words of this ambitious vision statement.

Grief and loss are among life’s most stressful and significant challenges. Everyone grieves at one time or another. No one is exempt.

There is certainly no timetable for grief, and words are so critical when attempting to describe the grief experience. For example, to question if someone is “still grieving” assumes at some point in time you will not be grieving anymore. When a loved one dies, you are forever changed, and at that very moment the journey of grief begins. Grief is not something to get over, defeat or complete…grief is a lifelong journey. This fact is actually a relief to those who walk through our doors seeking support. They realize that it is okay to grieve.

We know we cannot change the circumstances surrounding the loss; however, we believe in promoting healthy ways to respond to each client’s unique journey. Our organization exists to foster a variety of programs to transform pain into purpose and suffering into meaning. We develop services that encourage and strengthen our clients. As an organization founded upon Christian values, 2 Corinthians 1:7 speaks directly to this path:

“Our hope for you is firm, for we know that as you share in the sufferings, you also share in the encouragement."

In 2019, Cornerstone of Hope focused on enhancing its professional bereavement services and introducing several new specialized programs while continuing to offer individual and family counseling, art therapy, support groups, memorial services, school programs and various educational opportunities. We launched Men Grieve Too, which encourages men to form fellowships with their peers. Seeing the growing incidence of and the devastating effects of overdose and suicide, we added professional clinicians, programming, and resources specifically to support individuals who have experienced trauma.

You, our donors, sponsors, and volunteers, recognized in this Annual Report, are the reason we are able to provide and enhance these desperately needed services for grievers in our communities. We know that many of you have been personally affected by loss and have experienced the pain of grief. We are truly blessed and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity. 2019 CHAMPIONS OF HOPE: KIM AND JOEY LOJEKBy Mark Tripodi

Kim and Joey Lojek were honored as our 2019 Champions of Hope at our annual Gala in February, 2019. Integrity, humility, generous and tender of heart are words that come to mind when I describe Joey Lojek. Passionate, kind, hard-working and service minded are characteristics of his spouse, Kim. Together, they have brought a light of enthusiasm, trust and willingness to join Cornerstone of Hope’s mission of meeting families in their darkest hour, constantly offering HOPE to those who grieve!

Christi and I formally met the Lojeks 10 years ago at our annual Gala. As Cornerstone’s programs and outreach continued to evolve so did Joey and Kim’s commitment. In spending time with them over the years, we have always tried to express our gratitude with words of praise and thanksgiving only to hear both of them say in tandem, “No! Thank you! Cornerstone of Hope deserves the praise…not us.” Inevitably tears well in their eyes when we discuss what brings families to seek support from our ministry. In particular, Kim is reminded of what it was like to be a grieving teen as she experienced the loss of her mother at the age of 17.

The compassion they have for those who grieve is so evident. They chose to journey with friends and colleagues who grieve with words of encouragement, a listening ear and steadfastness to always be present with them. Those who know Joey recognize that he is soft spoken. However, his heart speaks volumes when you get to know what a caring and giving man that he is. Those traits are evident in the culture of his company, Premier Truck Sales and Rentals. During a recent tour as I interacted with his employees, I witnessed the utmost respect for their leader.

As a former Board Member, Kim continues to go above and beyond for Cornerstone of Hope at every opportunity. She is relentless in her pursuit of unique auction items for our annual Gala and creative in her approach to suggest better ways for us to gain awareness in the community, serve more families and increase our development efforts. Kim always shares a new idea on how Cornerstone of Hope can be even better. We are blessed by her thoughtful insight.

We are honored and privileged to recognize Kim and Joey Lojek as our 2019 Champion of Hope recipient. Thank you for always…always being so eager to help us help others! May God continue to guide and protect you, your family and your work every day!

In 2019, Nancy Prucha was the recipient of this award.

Dedicated to Cornerstone since its inception, Nancy Prucha of Digicom Graphics assisted with our printing needs and worked tirelessly planning Cornerstone’s Signature Gala Event each February. Despite Nancy’s many personal health issues, she persevered and was recognized for her witness of strength, courage and faith during seasons of tremendous adversity. Sadly, Nancy passed away in 2019. Her kindness and our memories of her live on in our hearts.

HEART OF MY HEARTA Cornerstone of Hope program for parents who have experienced miscarriage, stillbirth, or loss of an infant. Following the loss of a baby, we are forever changed. Our programs and services help parents feel that they are not alone in their grief, and we can help them cope with the significant pain of this loss.

- An Event For Adult Men Who Have Lost A Loved One -

MEN GRIEVE TOOThis event for men was introduced in October 2019. The first Men Grieve Too was attended by 45 men and featured a meal and a wonderful spirit of fellowship among men who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Quarterly MGT events will be held through 2020 in order to create ongoing fellowship and support for men who are grieving.

YOUTH SUMMERBEREAVEMENT CAMPSCornerstone of Hope offers three summer bereavement camps are for grieving children and teens who are looking to meet others who have experienced a similar loss. Many of the children who attend camp often feel they are the only ones in their neighborhood or classroom who experienced the death of a loved one. Camp is a safe place where grieving children can express their emotions and also participate in fun summer camp activities under the guidance of our professional staff who are experts in children’s grief.
