A Prayer for Labor Day On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors,
loving Father, we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the professions, and in family living.
We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of your name.
We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the rights and needs of workers everywhere.
May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity.
May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as you live and reign Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Stewardship
We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without expecting something in return. Even when we give to charity we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a dinner, or a chance to play golf. Yet, as Christian stewards we need to remember that the true reward for our giving awaits us in heaven.

Holy Land Gifts Olive Wood Carvings for sale after Masses
Holy Land Gifts, represented by the Rashmawi family who are volunteer members from the Roman Catholic Church in Bethlehem, the Holy Land, will be visiting our parish the weekend of Sept. 28/29 and selling their religious olive wood Gifts. They will speak to us about the dire Christian situation in the Holy Land. What used to be a strong and vibrant 92% of the population has dropped down below 1.5% in less than 50 years. There are several factors involved: the conflict, the occupation, rationed water and the big security wall barrier that is built between Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Traditionally, the Christian community relied on selling the Olive wood religious items to pilgrims as a main source of income, but with the unstable conditions and the lack of pilgrimage sales have declined. Catholics of the Holy Land graciously ask for your support through conscience prayers and the purchase of these special religious art pieces. The proceeds from the sales generate much needed employment opportunities and monetary funds for their Catholic community. During this weekend, think of your family, friends and yourself, and be as generous as God is to you.
RECTORY NEEDS
With the arrival of our associate pastor, Father Salomon, and our visiting priest, Father Nfonji, the rectory is in need of some sprucing up. Our most immediate needs are for new bath towels and tall, table lamps. If you can provide any of these items, please contact the parish office this week so we can keep track and eliminate duplication. If you would like to contribute money towards the purchase of these items, we can do the shopping for you! Thank you for your generosity.
