The Year of Mercy Dec. 8, 2015- Nov. 20, 2016

Visit a Holy Door with your family this summer.

Pope Francis has declared the Jubilee Year of Mercy and asked each diocese to designate a Holy Door. In our diocese Bishop Baker designated a Holy Door at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham and the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville. To gain a plenary indulgence, one must pass through the door during the Year of Mercy or perform one of the spiritual or corporal works of mercy, in addition to the usual conditions for receiving a plenary indulgence:

It is necessary that the faithful be in the state of

grace at least at the time the indulgenced work is completed.

A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a

day. In order to obtain it, the faithful must, in addition to being in the state of grace:

have the interior disposition of complete

detachment from sin, even venial sin;

have gone to Confession (within 2 weeks

before or after);

receive the Holy Eucharist (within 2 weeks

before or after) preferably while participating in Holy Mass, but for the indulgence only Holy Communion is required;

and pray for the intentions of the pope.

During the months of July and August

the Parish Office will close at noon on

Thursdays.

24-Hour Adoration in our Adoration Chapel begins Mondays at Noon and continues through Tuesdays at Noon.

When the office is closed, the end door of the Youth Hall must be used to guarantee

entrance. Please contact Joan Rivers by email at [email protected] or by phone at (256)898-5524 to obtain after hours procedures.

Note: After hours please do not leave the Youth Hall since you might set off the alarm.

Book Club will meet on Thursday, July 21

th

This month, read a good book and share it with us. Then join us every third Thursday of the month.

ROMEOs Group (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Tuesday, July 12

th, 8 AM

Libby’s Catfish Restaurant

This group is open to all retired men of our parish who like to eat out and enjoy each other’s company. We meet for breakfast the second Tuesday of each month.

Bulletin Note: If you would like to put an announcement or information in the bulletin, please submit it no later than Monday at noon. If at all possible, send it in an email to [email protected] with subject line Bulletin. Thank you.

Invitation to all men to join the St. Joseph’s Men Group Saturdays 7:00 - 8:00 AM

St. Pius X asked a group of Cardinals, "What is the

thing we most need, today, to save society?" One

said, "Build Catholic Schools." The Pope answered,

"No.” Another said, "We need more churches." The

Pope again answered, "No.” "Speed up the

recruiting of priests" said a third. "No, no" said the

Pope. "The most necessary thing of all, at this time,

is for every parish to possess a group of laymen who

will be at the same time virtuous, enlightened,

resolute, and truly apostolic!”

The men of St. Joseph meet every Saturday at 7 AM

in the chapel. We begin by reading the daily Mass

readings which are followed by a reflection by

Deacon Lappert. We then pray a rosary before the

exposed Blessed Sacrament (ends around 7:30 AM).

Our prayers are followed by fellowship and a talk by

one of the members until 8 AM. Breakfast is

provided. All men are welcome!

Note, we sometimes have Mass on first Saturdays at

8 AM. Check the bulletin for times on First Saturday.

If you have any questions about this group, please

email them to [email protected].

Youth Groups Sunday evenings in the Youth Room

Middle School 4:00-5:30 PM High School 6:00-8:00 PM

Why Parish Registration is Important

All who live within the boundaries of a parish belong by default to that parish. This does not mean that one is required to attend one’s residential parish (although, traditionally, that is what Catholics have done). Rather, Catholics today are free to attend the parish of their choosing. In order, then, to help keep track of “who’s who” and also do effective pastoral planning, many parishes request that those who attend there register. Parish registration is not found in Church law; it is a custom that has grown from a practical need.

If you have not registered or if you have not updated your registration information in some time, please do so! We appreciate being able to put a name with a face and getting to know you better, and you will have a greater connection to your spiritual home. In case of a family emergency we would have

contact information in order to best serve you. Your registration information may allow us to

better serve you regarding the Sacraments of Baptism, 1

st Communion, Confirmation and

Matrimony. You will receive all parish mailings. With your registration you can indicate your

areas of interest for ministries/service.

Stewardship

The good Samaritan was also a good “steward,” giving part of his time and his resources to meet his neighbor’s need. At the end of this familiar story, Jesus urges his hearers – and us no less– to go and do the same!

Thank you for being a part of our Annunciation of the Lord Church family. I appreciate all that you do for our parish and community by sharing your God-given gifts of time, talent and treasure. Your active participation in the life of our parish helps us to fulfill our vision and mission.

This summer, I pray that you will have some quiet and restful time that includes the love, joy and peace of being with family and friends. Please consider that Annunciation of the Lord Church continues to be open for Mass, numerous activities and the Sacraments. During these summer months your generosity through Faith Direct can help provide the consistent resources we need to operate our parish and ministries.
