Page Three Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
I am told that most people die having never drawn up a will. Therefore, the distribu on of their property must be decided by the state or by the courts. Those people did not intend to let that happen. That wasn’t the way they wanted to do it. But it just happened because they were pretending that this life would last forever. All of us ought to go on with our daily rou ne of life, but each of us ought not to deceive ourselves into thinking it will last forever. I am not sugges ng, however, that we should spend our me morbidly contempla ng death, not that at all. I am simply saying that we should face the fact and deal with it accordingly.
Let me now ask you this ques on: If you were going to die tomorrow and you knew it, what would you do with the rest of this day? One person might say, “I would draw up my will.” Another might say, “I would spend me playing with my children.” And another might answer, “I would put my arms around my wife and tell her that I love her.”
Well, I am saying to you that you should do some of those things today. Who knows? Today could be the last opportunity that you might have to do it. If today isn’t, then some other day will be. For every one of us, some day will be the last day of our lives. We should face that fact and reorder our priori es accordingly. Certainly, on December 3 – the first Sunday of Advent – we ought to recognize that this earthly life will not last forever.
All of Jesus’ teachings presupposes a life of moral responsibility that con nues on beyond me. If we take that seriously, and we should, it means that what we are doing today is eternally important. In our home, office, school, factory, store, we have the opportunity to make some daily contribu on to the everlas ng Kingdom of God.
Once that idea soaks into our thinking, it will alter our a tudes toward everything. Material possessions and work success will mean less and less, and values and principles and a loving rela onship with God and one another will mean more and more.
Most of us are not suffering from a terminal disease – thank God! But we are all dying. Li le by li le, day by day, we are moving closer and closer toward eternity. What a marvelous difference it would make, if we are allowed that truth to take root in our hearts and minds. Jesus once said, “Stay awake, therefore, you cannot know the day your Lord is coming.” Every day of our lives should be lived as if it will be our last because one day it will be!
Thoughts For Advent Remember: We are asked to share the excitement of our Catholic faith story with others,
especially with our family and friends and those with whom we most closely associate. When this sharing evokes interest, we should extend an invita on to experience the life
of our parish faith community. Bring someone back to church with you this Advent .
Advent is a me of wai ng – a me to reflect – a me to become more aware of the gi of Jesus’ first coming at Christmas, a me to ready ourselves for His final coming in glory. It is a me to be aware of God’s presence in the ordinary things of our lives – the beginning of a new day, the warmth of love from family and
friends, the joys and the hurts of growing and being fully human. We need to think about these things and share them with one another.
Kristkindle: This is a very old German custom which can enrich family life. The names of all the persons in the family are placed in a box. Each member draws one (not his or her own) and keeps the name secret. As o en as possible during Advent each person does something in secret for the person he or she draws, and writes it on a slip of paper
(also in secret). At Christmas the notes are wrapped and presented.

A Special Thank You From Our Marines For the Military Care Packages
Celeste,
I'm blown away by the though ulness, and warm hearted spirit of you, your scouts and fellow veterans that came together to make this happen. I can't tell you how much this means to our Marines. I am truly grateful for the support and compassion demonstrated here. It's a great feeling knowing that our Marines who may be a li le low on supplies, can rest easy. In 2006 we had a support network similar to this, and the support and a en on was overwhelming. Needless to say that a er 17 years in the middle east, that has somewhat faded. It brings me great pride and an overwhelming sense of belonging to know that people will s ll stand and support us regardless of the place, or duty. I am truly honored by your commitment to support us, and our fellow Marines and service members abroad. Thank you to everyone involved, who donated their me and efforts to make this happen!
We will be sure to get some photo's when these come in and send them back. This is an amazing show of support, and for that I can't truly thank you enough.
