DIVISION OVERVIEW & REQUIREMENTS

DIVISION1(LARGEENSEMBLE)- ANZVOCALENSEMBLEAWARDS

STANDARD:

Thisdivisionisintendedforexperiencedsingerscomfortableinclosefour-part vocal harmony and a relaJvely high level of jazzunderstanding and experience. They should be comfortable bothperforming a cappella and with a rhythm secJon. They arerequiredtobeabletoexecutethedifferentrhythmicstyleswithinthe jazz genre (such as swing, LaJn, and ballads) at an advancedlevel.The set piece is unaccompanied. Division one performers areexpectedtobeabletoconnectwiththeaudienceinanauthenJcwaytotrulyconveythemessageofasong.

PERFORMANCEREQUIREMENTS:

Eachensemblemustperformtwo(2)pieceswhichwillinclude:

STANDARD:

Thisdivisionisintendedforexperiencedsingerscomfortableinclosefour-part vocal harmony and a relaJvely high level of jazzunderstanding and experience. They should be comfortable bothperforming a cappella and with a rhythm secJon. They arerequiredtobeabletoexecutethedifferentrhythmicstyleswithinthe jazz genre (such as swing, LaJn, and ballads) at an advancedlevel. The set piece is unaccompanied. Division one performers are expected to be able to connect with theaudience inanauthenJcwaytotrulyconveythemessageofasong.

STANDARD:Tofurtherpromoteandencouragesmallensemblesinging,theopen(small)divisionhasrecentlybeenintroducedtoGIJ.InlinewiththeregulaJonsregardingcommonmembers,studentswithinlargerensemblesarepermi`edandencouragedtoformgroupsof4,5or6voices.Thosegroupswhodonotyetfeelreadytoenterdivisionone(small)arenowprovidedwiththislesschallengingdivision.Theownchoicepiececanbeperformedwitheitherasingleinstrumentaccompanimentorabackingtrack,oracappella.

STANDARD:This division is intended for singers transiJoning between theintermediate and experienced levels of jazz singing, who arebecomingmore comfortablewith four-part harmony, in both theaccompaniedandacappellarealms.Theyshouldbedevelopingasoundunderstandingofdiffering jazz styles,andanawarenessofthecommunicaJonaspectofperforming.

STANDARD:Thisdivisionisforensembleswhowouldliketostretchthemselvesbeyondthebeginnerrealmintotheintermediate,andbegintoimmersethemselvesmoreintojazzharmony.Theseensemblesshouldbeabletosinginthree-partharmony,andhavesomeunderstandingofthedifferentstylesofjazzvocalperformance.Theownchoicepiececanbeperformedwithwitheitherasingleinstrumentaccompanimentorabackingtrack,oracappella.

The own choice piece can beperformedwithwitheitherasingleinstrumentaccompanimentorabackingtrack,oracappella.
